Additional unique index referencing columns not exposed by CDC causes exception
            Asked 2021-Jun-14 at 17:35

I am using the SQL connector to capture CDC on a table that we only expose a subset of all columns on the table. The table has two unique indexes A & B on it. Neither index is marked as the PRIMARY INDEX but index A is logically the primary key in our product and what I want to use with the connector. Index B references a column we don't expose to CDC. Index B isn't truly used in our product as a unique key for the table and it is only marked UNIQUE as it is known to be unique and marking it gives us a performance benefit.

This seems to be resulting in the error below. I've tried using the message.key.columns option on the connector to specify index A as the key for this table and hopefully ignore index B. However, the connector seems to still want to do something with index B

            1. How can I work around this situation?
            2. For my own understanding, why does the connector care about indexes that reference columns not exposed by CDC?
            3. For my own understanding, why does the connector care about any index besides what is configured on the CDC table i.e. see CDC.change_tables.index_name documentation

One of the contributors to Debezium seems to affirm this is a product bug https://gitter.im/debezium/user?at=60b8e96778e1d6477d7f40b5. I have created an issue https://issues.redhat.com/browse/DBZ-3597.

            Edit:

A PR was published and approved to fix the issue. The fix is in the current 1.6 beta snapshot build.

There is a possible workaround. The names of indices are the key to the problem. It seems they are processed in alphabetical order. Only the first one is taken into consideration so if you can rename your indices to have the one with keys first then you should get unblocked.

It works fine to the point that I try and send a transaction:

When I send that I get the error:

Get data and control records using AWS DMS with Kafka as the target
            Asked 2021-Jun-07 at 08:47

I am using SQL Server RDS as the source database and Apache-Kafka as the target in AWS DMS. I want to receive both the data and control records on every CDC changes made in the source database but I am only getting data records in case of CRUD commands and control record in case of the DDL commands. I went through the AWS DMS documentation but couldn't find anything relevant.

AWS DMS task failing after some time in CDC mode
            Asked 2021-Jun-01 at 05:03

I'm having trouble in setting up a task migrating the data in a RDS Database (PostgreSQL, engine 10.15) into an S3 bucket in the initial migration + CDC mode. Both endpoints are configured and tested successfully. I have created the task twice, both times it ran a couple of hours at most, the first time the initial dump went fine and some of the incremental dumps took place as well, the second time only the initial dump finished and no incremental dump was performed before the task failed.

            The error message is now:

            Answered 2021-Jun-01 at 05:03

Should anyone get the same error in the future, here is what we were told by the AWS tech specialist:

There is a known (to AWS) issue with the pglogical plugin. The solution requires using the test_decoding plugin instead.

            1. Enforce using the test_decoding plugin on the DMS Endpoint by specifying pluginName=test_decoding in Extra Connection Attributes
            2. Create a new DMS task using this endpoint (using the old task may cause it to fail due to dissynchronization between the task and the logs)

It sure did resolve the issue, but we still don't know what the problem really was with the plugin that is strongly suggested everywhere in the DMS documentation (at the moment).

            ANSWER

            Answered 2021-Jun-01 at 00:24

You should really be using the dbms_mview package rather than the old dbms_snapshot. They do the same thing in this case but Oracle doesn't even bother documenting the dbms_snapshot package any longer.

The second parameter of dbms_mview.refresh is the method. You're specifying a method of 'f' which means that you're asking for a fast (incremental) refresh. If you want an incremental refresh, you'd need to create a materialized view log on the remote database (something you almost certainly cannot do over the database link). Alternately, you can ask for a complete refresh instead at the cost of sending every row over the network every time

How do I resolve a Stream Not Found error in Snowflake that only appears for Task Runs?
            Asked 2021-May-26 at 14:54

I'm getting an error when a query consuming a stream is being executed by a task. The error only appears when the query is being executed via a task.

In querying information_schema.task_history, I can see the task status is FAILED with error code 091111. I haven't been able to find any documentation on error codes so I'm mostly relying on the error message Stream my_stream not found.

The stream is being created with SHOW_INITIAL_ROWS parameter set to TRUE. This is because the source table has existed for quite some time and I would like the task to handle the past data in addition to incoming data.

            What I've Noticed

SYSTEM$STREAM_HAS_DATA returns False until a new CDC becomes apparent. Since SHOW_INITIAL_ROWS is set to TRUE, when I query the stream I get the same number of rows returned as when I query the table itself. However, SYSTEM$STREAM_HAS_DATA still returns False.

            What I've Tried

            1. Can query the stream

I've confirmed the task owner has access to the stream by using this role and querying.

            SELECT * FROM my_stream LIMIT 5; -- Works.

This confirms that the stream does in fact exist.

            1. Executing an UPDATE command does make SYSTEM$STREAM_HAS_DATA return TRUE with all the rows (and not just the diff from this one command).

            2. I can run the SQL of the task itself. Going into the History page, I can copy and paste the query and run it.

This confirms the query itself works.

            1. Subsequent changes are in fact handled by the task.

            Where I Need Help

            • I need the task to handle the stream without manual intervention and execution to make the stream looks like it exists

I'm assuming that by executing the query manually, something is happening behind the scene that makes this stream accessible. An example of this would be a stream being created on at able by its owner enables change tracking on that table. However, I've been unable to find what would be causing a scenario where a stream is unfindable until queried.

This has been confirmed by Snowflake support to be a bug. They've opened a ticket internally to address it.

Will try to post an update here upon resolution.

            UPDATE 2021-04-30

Snowflake has incorporated a fix applied to versions >= 5.15. You can check your version by querying SELECT CURRENT_VERSION(); Barring any rollbacks, this should apply to everyone.

The update has fixed the Stream not found error with code 091111 for me. It has not, however, fixed the SYSTEM$STREAM_HAS_DATA returning False until a new change has been made to the source table.

            UPDATE 2021-05-26

A fix for SYSTEM$STREAM_HAS_DATA returning False for initial rows has been put in place for versions >= 5.20

            Asked 2021-May-11 at 20:00

            I am using Visual C++ 2019 with MFC, on Windows 10 Home Premium. The video mode is 3840*2160 40-60 Hz (AMD FreeSync) 30 bit/pixel: 10 bit / color part, 1 073 741 824 colors.

I can give colors with COLORREF = unsigned int (32 bits), what is interpreted as (red | (green << 8) | (blue << 16)), this has only 16 777 216 colors. How can I give 1 073 741 824 colors? At now, 16M colors is converted to 1G colors. I need the method without conversion.

For example: CDC::SetPixel, FillSolidRect, SetTextColor, SetBkColor, Line, CPen/CBrush constructor, CBitmap, etc. Thank you.

(I want to save the time of conversion. For example, speed of key Page Up/Down in my own IDE is about 10 Hz, what is very slow. I generated the picture in the main memory (with CreateCompatibleBitmap, CreateCompatibleDC, BitBlt). When I drawed directly to the display, this was more slower. I tried SetBkMode OPAQUE and TRANSPARENT so, TextOut and DrawText so.)
