thousands is a JavaScript library. thousands has no bugs, it has no vulnerabilities and it has low support. However thousands has a Non-SPDX License. You can install using 'npm i thousands' or download it from GitHub, npm.

A micro javascript library for formatting numbers with thousands separator. Number.toLocaleString() isn't supported in some browsers (< Safari 9, < IE 11), or if you're running in an older node environment (< 0.12) i18n support is not included. In most cases you will likely want to use Number.toLocaleString(), but this library allows you to format numbers no matter what your environment supports.

Preg_match is "ignoring" a capture group delimiter
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 17:46

We have thousands of structured filenames stored in our database, and unfortunately many hundreds have been manually altered to names that do not follow our naming convention. Using regex, I'm trying to match the correct file names in order to identify all the misnamed ones. The files are all relative to a meeting agenda, and use the date, meeting type, Agenda Item#, and description in the name.

Our naming convention is yyyymmdd_aa[_bbb]_ccccc.pdf where:

            • yyyymmdd is a date (and may optionally use underscores such as yyyy_mm_dd)
            • aa is a 2-3 character Meeting Type code
            • bbb is an optional Agenda Item
            • ccccc is a freeform variable length description of the file (alphanumeric only)

            Example filenames:

The optional identifier ? is for the last thing, either a characters or group. So the expression ([a-z0-9]{1,3})_? makes the underscore optional, but not the preceding group. The solution is to move the underscore into the parenthesis.

numpy follow a self-indexing list without loops
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 12:46

I have a list [A,B,C,D,E] and a list of indexes [3,2,0,4,1] but the indexes actually points to itself, giving the order to follow.

So starting at 0, next index is 3, then at index 3, the next index is 4,1,2,0 etc.

I can achieve this by looping and updating the index, but my list may have thousands of points, Is there a way to avoid loops and vectorize this?

What you're trying to do looks to me like a depth first search in the graph where each node is a number from 0 to n-1 (n = 5 in your example) with a single outgoing edge to the next index it points to. The python solution is already pretty efficient, but if you want something pre-made I think scipy has the solution:

I have a column that gives the date (its type is str) and another column that gives a first name, I would like all the names that are in 2020 have "_2020" at the end of their first name, and same thing for 2021, and its pandas DataFrame.

As I have thousands of rows, I need a loop that automates the task.

it would be like going from this:

Dangers of mixing [tidyverse] and [data.table] syntax in R?
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 06:35

I'm getting some very weird behavior from mixing tidyverse and data.table syntax. For context, I often find myself using tidyverse syntax, and then adding a pipe back to data.table when I need speed vs. when I need code readability. I know Hadley's working on a new package that uses tidyverse syntax with data.table speed, but from what I see, it's still in it's nascent phases, so I haven't been using it.

Anyone care to explain what's going on here? This is very scary for me, as I've probably done these thousands of times without thinking.

I came across the same problem on a few occasions, which led me to avoid mixing dplyr with data.table syntax, as I didn't take the time to find out the reason. So thanks for providing a MRE.

            Looks like dplyr::arrange is interfering with data.table auto-indexing :

            • index will be used when subsetting dataset with == or %in% on a single variable
            • by default if index for a variable is not present on filtering, it is automatically created and used
            • indexes are lost if you change the order of data
            • you can check if you are using index with options(datatable.verbose=TRUE)

If we explicitely set auto-indexing :

HTTP GET for a large string payload
            Asked 2021-Jun-14 at 15:03

I have a requirement where I need to make a HTTP request to a Flask server where the payload is a question(string) and a paragraph(string). The server uses machine learning to find the answer to the question within the paragraph and return it.

Now, the paragraph can be huge, as in thousands of words. So will a GET request with a JSON payload be appropriate? or should I be using POST?

            ANSWER

            Answered 2021-Jun-14 at 15:03

will a GET request with a JSON payload be appropriate?

No - the problem here is that the payload of a GET request has no defined semantics; you have no guarantees that intermediate components will do the right thing with your request.

For example: caches are going to assume that the payload of the request is irrelevant, so your GET request might get a response for a completely different document.

            should I be using POST?

Today, you should be using POST.

Eventually, you'll probably end up using the safe-method-with-body, once the HTTP-WG figures out the semantics of the new method and adoption has taken hold.

            Ensure Fairness in Publisher/Subscriber Pattern
            Asked 2021-Jun-14 at 01:48

How can I ensure fairness in the Pub/Sub Pattern in e.g. kafka when one publisher produces thousands of messages, while all other producers are in a low digit of messages? It's not predictable which producer will have high activity.

It would be great if other messages from other producers don't have to wait hours just because one producer is very very active.

What are the patterns for that? Is it possible with Kafka or another technology like Google PubSub? If yes, how?

Multiple partitions also doesn't work very well in that case, or I can see how.

            ANSWER

            Answered 2021-Jun-14 at 01:48

In Kafka, you could utilise the concept of quotas to prevent a certain clients to monopolise the cluster resources.

There are 2 types of quotas that can be enforced:

            1. Network bandwidth quotas
            2. Request rate quotas

More detailed information on how these can be configured can be found in the official documentation of Kafka.
