            Dash App acting strange when I run it with CSS grid
            Asked 2021-Feb-10 at 20:42

            I need some help with my code, I think it would be best if I share my code from Github. I created a separate branch called css_problem_branch to display the issue I’m having.

            Link to Github repository: https://github.com/sebastian-meckovski/Covid19-visualisation/tree/css_problem_branch

            The simple grid layout I’m trying to recreate can be found in the CssGrid folder, it was done using simple HTML elements and it works. That’s just to demonstrate what I’m trying to recreate.

            However, when I use exactly the same CSS in the assets folder, the web application starts acting strange. It does not reorganize the grid when I reduce the width of the browser and when I reduce it the width of the container element becomes extremely big (which works fine with plain HTML elements)

            What could be the cause and how can I solve it?

            Explanation about what is probably happening

            I think the problem you're experiencing is an instance of what people have called a grid blowout.

            Basically what's happening is that the children of the grid take up too much space causing the columns to get pushed off to the right.

            So the reason you're not experiencing problems in your small html-only example is because the children are just div elements with some small amount of text inside.

            The graphs in your Dash app however can grow very large, as you've experienced.

            To fix this we can set a restrained size range for the columns using the minmax css function:

            CSS Grid - White space on the bottom and how to remove it
            Asked 2020-Apr-05 at 17:41

            I am trying to get a hold of the CSS Grid, a transition from previously using the Bootstrap that I'm used to.

            I created a simple layout (4 rows & 6 columns) however, there is an unwanted whitespace on the bottom, causing a visible scroll.

            Is there a way to fix this without setting the exact height to the .container element? When I set the height to the .container (height: 500px), the problem goes away. Is this the way to go around it? I don't want to use a quick fix that will cause me a problem down the way maybe on smaller or larger viewports.

            Replace

            grid-template-rows: 50px 50px 1fr 1fr;

            With

            grid-template-rows: 50px 50px 1fr;

            You're basically just adding another set of rows underneath your needed ones.

            How to make images responsive using CSSGrid
            Asked 2020-Apr-01 at 23:22

            Im trying to insert 8 images into a 2x4 CSSGrid. I have width set to 100% but when I set height to 100% the bottom row of images end up below the footer instead of below the first row of images. Setting the height using px works, but its not responsive at all compared to using %. Any ideas? Ive been told using flexbox would be better but I want to just strictly use CSSGrid for this problem.

            How do I insert images into a CSSGrid?
            Asked 2020-Apr-01 at 05:13

            Im trying to insert these 8 images into a CSSGrid. I made it so that the grid has 4 columns and 2 rows. I set the heigh and width of the img to 100% thinking itd take up the space of one column in each row. Instead the images come out way bigger than intended. Im using a nested grid, which I think im not implementing correctly. For example, Ill set the width and height of the images to 300px and one row will have more than 4 pictures. I think thats cause the images arent taking up the full size of the column but im not sure. When i inspect element I cant seem to see the CSSGrid Any help?

            Codesandbox is where I am so far (roughly).

            And my question is quite simple - how do I get 2 & 3 to go to the right of 1? I kinda do it but there are all those weird spaces to the left and down that, I cannot figure out how to deal with.

            Some notice points from your code

            • use one container for one grid field structure
            • remove direction setting direction="column"
            • xs sum needs to lower or equal to 12 if you want to set them in one row.

            Kindly check the material-ui grid document for better understanding

            Answered 2019-Mar-07 at 12:48

            It's because you're not actually scrolling the page. You have your wrapper element set to whatever height the page is minus the header. That wrapper overflows and you can scroll but on that element, you're not actually scrolling the page. leave the height of the container to auto and this will scroll the page itself. otherwise look for a different strategy for listening to scrolls inside the wrapper.
