QUESTION
I am trying to parse xliff (XML) variant from SDL Trados translation software, which contains translations, and the "sdlxliff" file I'm parsing looks like this (somewhat simplified and "prettified").
XML/XLIFF file being processed ("sample.sdlxliff"):

QUESTION
I was working on a language translation project in trados on a virtual machine. Half of the work was done and the translated words were exported into a Word docx file. Upon restarting the virtul machine, the project file appears to have been corrupted as trados shows no signs that the project was worked on. When I manually open the sdlproj (trados project) file, trados cannot open the file mentioning the following:
: An error occured whilst trying to determine the file version
I have tried creating a new project and used pre-translate using batch tasks but that did not seem to have imported the previously translated document. I need to figure out how to recover my project so that I can recover the translated document (so I do not have to redo the work) as well as recover the translation memory for trados. The translation memory folder is present inside the original project folder. I would really appreciate any suggestion to further troubleshoot and fix this issue. I have tried their support desk but they do not appear to be available today. Two solutions I observed from their forum suggested:
save the project file with a zip extension, extract the contents and then open the sdlxiff file from there
recreate the project and use pre-translate.
ANSWER
Answered 2020-Apr-05 at 16:49In my case, I was able to open the sdlxiff file from the translated language directory. This opened the project with the text that had previously been translated. I am not certain whether I need to remove the sdlproj file or simply save the project hoping that it will overwrite the corrupted file. In either case, I will update this post once I get an answer to that.
QUESTION
I need a help with mass search and replace using regex. I have a longer strings where I need to look for any number and particular string - e.g. 321BS and I need to replace just the text string that I was looking for. So I need to look for BS in "gf test test2 321BS test" (the pattern is always the same just the position differs) and change just BS. Can you please help me to find particular regex for this?
Update: I need t keep the number and change just the text string. I will be doing this notepad++. However I need a general funcion for this if possible. I am a rookie in regex. Moreover, is it possible to do it in Trados SDL Studio? Or how am i able to do it in excel file in bulk?
Thank you very much!

Answered 2019-Oct-15 at 10:40Your question is a bit vague, however, as I understand it you want to match any digits followed by BS, ie 123BS. You want to keep 123 but replace BS?
Regex: (\d+)BS matches 123BS
In notepad++ you can:
match (\d+)BS
replace \1NEWTEXT
This will replace 123BS with 123NEWTXT.
\1 will substitue the capture group (\d+). (which matches 1 or more digits.
QUESTION
I'm trying to solve a problem with an app I've compiled to speed up my work. The idea is to organise my folder structure automatically (copying files from source to target folders), based on the file extension using a WinForm app. The problem is that I've recently started coding with C# and I can't find a way to deal with the nested duplicated files in my folder structure.
Example of the tree structure:

QUESTION
This question may be asked previously but they have no answer. I try to create a pdf file using pdfkit
library with Arabic language support. So, first I downloaded a prebuilt version of pdfkit (which is assumed to work in browser) from here.
Then I wrote this code for adding an Arabic font (like in the docs)
...ANSWER
Answered 2019-Mar-16 at 21:38Here is the simple solution;
- Don't forget to add pre-built pdfkit.js and blob-stream.js files
- Copy below js code and include it in your html
- Put your fonts to the same place with html/js (like trado.ttf)
- Change the
getFont(...)
according to your font name
Done!
Important Notes:
- If you run it without any server, chrome will give CORS policy error. (See this to disable just for try)
- When you move your files to a server, or running in local server, there will be no CORS error.
- Last and most importantly, give some times to
xhr.onload
. Because of that we createwriteToPDF()
function seperately for using with a button after loading.
QUESTION
I am using the Google Translate neural network (amazing improvement) via the Google Cloud Translation API in SDL Trados to process technical translations.
Of course it needs heavy post-editing, mostly terminology and sometimes style. I would really like if the neural network could learn from this post editing - but there seems to be no way to do feed my edits back. It is possible when using the web interface manually (translate.google.com). The (years unupdated) Google Translator Toolkit allowed to used a shared public TM, but that is now obsolete with the neural network.
Can I somehow feed translations back to Google Cloud Translation API to train it?
Their FAQ states this:
"Does Google use my data for training purposes?
No, Google does not use the content you translate to train and improve our machine translation engine. In order to improve the quality of machine translation, Google needs parallel text - the content along with the human translation of that content."
...ANSWER
Answered 2018-Feb-21 at 16:38As you pointed out, in the documentation regarding confidentiality, it is highlighted that Google does not use the data for training purposes as a background/transparent process, due to the following reasons:
- Confidentiality: for confidentiality reasons, the content inputted to the Translation API will not be used for training the model.
- Non-feasibility: the Neural Network model behind Translation API would require the non-translated content plus the translated version suggested by the user in order add some training to the model; so it is not possible to train the model with just the non-translated text.
Moreover, there is currently not the possibility to suggest translations to the API in order to train the model in a more custom way.
As a side note, you might be interested in keeping an eye on AutoML, the new Google Cloud Platform's product that is currently still in alpha, but to which you can request access by filling in the form in the main page. It will allow the creation of custom Machine Learning models without requiring the dedication and expertise that other more complex products such as ML Engine require. The first product of the AutoML family to be launched will be AutoML Vision, but it is possible that similar products will appear for some of the other ML-related APIs in the Platform, such as the Translation API, which is the one you are interested in.
Also feel free to visit the Google Cloud Big Data and Machine Learning Blog from time to time in order to keep updated in the latest news in this field. If you are interested in AutoML, its release and presentation will probably have an article in the blog too.
So as a summary: no, currently you cannot feed suggested translations back to the Translation API, but in the future you might be able to do so, or at least have your own custom models.
QUESTION
I have just finished writing my first visual basic "Windows Form Application" that took me several days and that comprises several hundred lines. I learned every concept from scratch, when I encountered it.
Now, all errors the "IntelliSence" can detect has been corrected. The application runs smoothly. But the result is not correct! -- Actually, in one occasion, without changing anything, when I simply inserted a break point and then continued the running, the result appears to be different and appears correct! (i.e., apparently, different results without changing anything)
Without further details (it's several hundred lines, hard to explain...) can anyone tell me what to do next?
Or, more specifically,
question #1, how can I keep track of a certain variable (that variable should have remained unchanged throughout the application)?
And
question #2, what is the shortcut for step-by-step execution in Visual Studio, equivalent to the F8 shortcut in Microsoft Office VBA??
I'm trying to count the total number of new words in a text, and the frequency of each; and then two consecutive words and the frequency of each, taking into consideration only the non-unique words on the basis of the previous count; and then three consecutive words; and then four... until the consecutive words no long repeat. In this process, I discovered that:
Firstly, Microsoft Office "word count" is in fact more accurately a "words-times count" in a sense such as "Our park received (a certain number of) people-times (in stead of just 'people') of visitors per day".
Secondly, some say the count of words in a text, after eliminating repetition, is the count of "unique words" -- that is not accurate, either. In descending order by occurrences / frequencies, the words are "common words", "rare words" and finally "unique words" which means "extremely rare (occurring only once)". What was thought as "unique words" are actually "new words", which is termed correctly in SDL Trados.
Meaning of new:
"How many words appeared for the first time in the scope of this text?
Meaning of unique:
"How many words appeared only once in the scope of this text?
I have located (or identified) the problem by now. The problem is in "Top Design" (or something). The code is entirely fine (or correct) even with: 612 lines, 57 members/types, a depth of inheritance of 7, and a project maintainability of 87 according to Visual Studio Code Analysis.
On the "top level", I suspect the problem becomes a "real world" problem and no longer about programming. It becomes a question of everyday life or work, generally "How can do this or that?"
Maybe found in between "real world problem" and "programming problem", my "top level" problem at hand, if I may still state it here, is that --
When I found the repetitious "single word" and extended it by one word to look for repeatitious "two consecutive words", I extended only its first occurrence and that was incomplete.
For example, if the text is "my computer my computer my document my document" the repetitious single-words are "my, 4 times", "computer, 2 times" and "document, 2 times". Then, I extend "my" by one word and check if "my computer" is repetitious. It is; the code gives "my computer, 2 times". Thereby I missed "my document, 2 times".
