Just make your mapping function a private free function instead of a class member. It only needs to be a member itself if it needs access to members, which in this pattern is highly unlikely.

Edit: Also you could clean this up a lot by avoiding subjects and operate on the inputs/outputs directly like so:

Install swift-mvvm

Create an account or grab a new API key from Dark Sky API
Make sure CocoaPods is installed and up to date. Run pod install in the project directory.
At the root of the repo find the keys_template.plst file. Copy or rename to keys.plist.
Open swift-mvvm.workspace and drag the keys.plist into the project and add to target. Open the file an put your API Key in the plist under apiKey.
Build and run!
