We can make changes or update our components at a specific time interval using the setTimeout method with the useEffect hook. 


  • setTimeout method: This method executes the code after a specific time that is given in the argument. It reads time in milliseconds. So, if we need to update our component in 5 seconds, then we need to pass 5000 milliseconds (about 5 seconds) as an argument.  
  • useEffect: This hook allows us to use the callback function with the useState hook. 
  • setInterval: This method calls a function at a set interval of time. Its syntax is the same as setTimeout. 
  • clearInterval: This method is used to terminate the function after an interval. 


The difference between setInterval and setTimeout function is that setTimeout let the function run only once at the given interval, unlike setInterval, which allows the function to run repeatedly at the given interval of time. So, if we must update the component only once after a certain interval, we can use setTimeout. And if we must repeatedly update several times, then we can use setInterval. These functions are used to give an animated effect to the page.

Instructions

Follow the steps carefully to get the output easily.

  1. Install the Node.js and React on your IDE(preferable Visual Studio Code).
  2. Create React Application using npx create-react-app foldername.
  3. cd foldername.
  4. Open the folder in IDE.
  5. Copy the code using "copy" button above and paste it in app.js file(remove the earlier code from app.js).
  6. Open the terminal from IDE.
  7. npm start to run the file.
