A sidebar is at the edges (it can be either left or right) of a webpage. They are mostly used in blogs or eCommerce sites. They provide supplementary information. For instance, on a shopping website, we can create a sidebar that will include the categories of items, i.e., clothes, footwear, jacket, etc.

In react, we can create a sidebar using the “sidebar” component. It contains several subcomponents, also like:

  • <CSidebarHeader> for adding the header to our sidebar (this is optional)
  • <CSidebarFooter> for adding the footer (this is also optional)
  • <CSidebarNav> for navigation
  • <CSidebarBrand> for adding the project/company name, etc.
  • <CSidebarToggler> for use with the minimizer plugin means that one can minimize the CSS in the webpage.

We can also customize the sidebar by providing each component “rootStyles” prop using utility classes like sidebarClasses or menuClasses.

Here is an example of how to create a sidebar menu using React JS;

Preview of the output that you will get on running this code from your IDE.

In this solution we use the React library.

  2. Create React Application using npx create-react-app foldername.
  3. cd foldername.
  4. npm i react-pro-sidebar
  5. Open the folder in IDE.
  6. Copy the code using "copy" button above and paste it in App.js file(remove the earlier code from App.js).
