React.js project local images suddenly stopped loading
            Asked 2020-Nov-02 at 20:59

So I have a React.js project that suddenly doesn't load local images (such as: src={require("../../assets/images/logo/logo-v4.png")} on localhost. Remote images from an external URL are displaying. Looks like my live deployed build still loads the images properly, but I am worried to build and deploy my recent changes to corrupt my live build with whatever this issue is. I have tried to git checkout an older commit where I know the images were working properly, but that checkout is also not displaying local images.

I have tried deleting node_modules, package-lock.json, npm cache clean --force, then npm install again, and the problem still persists. I have reset my PC. I have run other React.js projects on my PC and local images load just fine, so it is just with this specific project.

Not sure how this happened, or what to try next to resolve this issue. Has this happened to anyone else? What else can I try to resolve this? Let me know if you want me to share more code. Thanks!

Alright so I troubleshooted today and narrowed down the issue to updating react-scripts to the latest version which is v4.0.0, so I downgraded to v3.4.4, and the local images loaded properly. I will open an issue on the react-scripts GitHub page!

How to upload videos to Firebase Storage for React App
            Asked 2020-May-26 at 12:53

I am working on a react project pretty much like a social media app where users can upload images or videos. I am using firebase storage to store the image and videos.

I can able to accomplish image uploading by using react react-firebase-file-uploader package but as I am new to web development, I am struggling to find the solution for uploading videos for react.

I have searched the whole internet but I couldn't find a proper solution to accomplish these tasks.

            1. I required to upload only video/videos and want to preview it/them before uploading data to firebase storage.

            2. I need to compress the video to reduce the file size before uploading or after uploading to firebase storage using cloud functions.

Thank you very much for your help.

You may be able to do some treatment with Cloud Functions after the upload but beware that memory and execution time are restricted and your script may fail on large files.

It looks like the Elements component updates its state when a nested Stripe Element gets mounted, causing Router to be re-rendered, causing the unmounting and remounting of the Billing and its sub-Elements, causing the loop.

Putting the Elements component inside the Route should solve the problem.

A couple of things to keep in mind, when refactoring a class to a hook. - Instead of Class use function() or a () => arrow function, - There is no render function only a return statement, - The this keyword is only used to bind functions and state to the Class. These are not used in functions, - Instead of this.setState, you should use the useState hook.

            Image rotation on input type="file"
            Asked 2019-Aug-22 at 16:53

I am using react-firebase-file-uploader to upload an avatar to firebase storage. However, any time I upload an image of Portrait Orientation (specifically, images taken on Android and IOS devices - they tend to have OrientationRotate 90 CW in their metadata) the image is rotated 90 degrees.

I have read about this previously and I believe that these smartphone images taken are always in Landscape but the orientation is stored EXIF meta. Please correct me if I am mistaken?

Below is an example of a component that is uploading the image using react-firebase-file-uploader - I know it is not an issue with this package and the solution to this question is likely applicable across many applications.

So, what do I need to do as to read the EXIF orientation, change the rotation (if required, or is it that I need to pass the meta with the file upload?) and still continue the upload?

I just had a similar issue. The problem is that you pass a function as storageRef property to your FileUploader. Instead you should pass a storageRef object directly like this:

You don't need to pass props to the Modal component. Instead, save whatever you want to display in the Admin state, and render it through there.

In the Hit component, onEdit function should take an argument which is an object with all the information you need in the modal. Where you had Modify Item will become:

A component's state is enclosed within the component that defines it. In your case you are trying to update the state of the Admin through Hit component. From React.js State and Life Documentation

State is similar to props, but it is private and fully controlled by the component.

But the reason this error is thrown is not because Hit can't update the state of Admin, it doesn't event try to. What happens when you click the Modify Item button is Hit is trying to update its own state, but this won't work for two reasons:

            1. First and foremost from the same documentation:

We mentioned before that components defined as classes have some additional features. Local state is exactly that: a feature available only to classes.

            1. Even if you transform the component to a class component, the state should be defined either in the constructor or as class field. But this won't help you anyway, because although you will be able to update the state, it would be Hit's one.

So, if I were you, you would go for one of the following solutions (depending on the case).

            1. Inline Content, Hits and Hit within Admin's render method or extract them as renderContent and renderHits Admin's class field methods, this way you will be able to update the state within this methods methods.

            2. Probably the one you should consider more: Pass openModel class field function as onModifyItem prop down to Hits component, and use it as onClick prop for Modify Item button.

Create React App - Zero Configuration?

If you’re working with React, you’re probably familiar with the create-react-app. It’s an official command line interface for building React applications with ZERO Configuration.

ZERO Configuration? How is it possible?

create-react-app hides all the webpack configuration into a package react-scripts. With create-react-app, I can enjoy all the configuration created by Facebook without any effort and I don't need to configure myself.

But... you are not POSSIBLE to change the default configurations provided by Facebook create-react-app. Facebook provided 2 options to allow you to change the default configurations...
