Function sort_values() is used to sort the data frame in pandas. Using these functions, we can sort the data frame in Ascending or Descending order. We can also sort the Data Frame based on the values in a single column. This will return a new Data Frame sorted in ascending order by default. Use this method to sort one or more columns in Pandas Data frame.

For using the sort_values(), you pass a single argument to the method containing the column's name (you want to sort by). By default, the sort_values() has ascending set to True. If you want the Data Frame sorted in descending order, you can pass False to this parameter. By passing False to the ascending, you reverse the sort order. Now your Data Frame is sorted in descending order. It’s good to note that pandas allow you to choose different sorting algorithms with both .sort_values() and .sort_index().

  • Sort a pandas Data Frame by the values of one or more columns
  • Use the ascending parameter to sort the order of elements.
  • Sort a Data Frame by its index using .sort_index()
  • Organize missing data while sorting values
  • Using inplace set to True Sort a Data Frame in place.

Here is an example of how to sort Pandas Data frame in Python:

Preview of the output that you will get on running this code from your IDE.

Code

In this solution we used pandas library of python.

Instructions

Follow the steps carefully to get the output easily.

  1. Download and Install the PyCharm Community Edition on your desktop.
  2. Install pandas on your IDE from python interpreter in setting options.
  3. Create new python file on your IDE.
  4. Copy the snippet using the 'copy' button and paste (till line no 7)it in your python file.
  5. Import pandas library.Add print statement.
  6. Run the current file to generate the output.

I hope you found this useful. I have added the link to dependent library, version information in the following sections.

I found this code snippet by searching for ' Sort pandas DataFrame with a column with list' in kandi. You can try any such use case!

Environment Tested

I tested this solution in the following versions. Be mindful of changes when working with other versions.

  1. PyCharm Community Edition 2022.3.1
  2. The solution is created in Python 3.11.1 Version
  3. pandas 1.5.2 Version

Using this solution, we can Sort pandas DataFrame with a column with list. This process also facilities an easy to use, hassle free method to create a hands-on working version of code in python which would help us to Sort pandas DataFrame with a column with list.
