A default parameter is defined as a default argument in Python. During a function call, such parameters are optional. The default value is used when no argument is provided, and it will overwrite the default value if an argument is provided. To set default values for function parameters, the default parameter is used. If a value is not passed in, then it is undefined. The value becomes undefined in a function if a parameter is not provided. For that, the compiler will apply the default value that we specified.

In this syntax, using the assignment operator ( =), we must specify default values for each parameter. When the parameter has a default value, you can call a function and pass an argument to that parameter. The function will use that argument rather than the default value. The function will use the default value if you do not pass the argument.

To simplify the function calls, the Python default parameters are used.

Place default parameters after the non-default parameters.

The Python language has various ways of representing syntax and default values for function arguments. If no argument value is given during the function call, the function argument will take Default values. The default argument is passed automatically.

There are two advantages:

  • We do not need to concern about the order of the arguments so that the function is easier.
  • We can give values to only particular parameters we want to, and the other parameters have default argument values.

Here is an example of how to create Default variable parameters in Python:

  2. Add required dependencies and import them in Python file.
  3. Run the file to generate the output.

I hope you found this useful.

I found this code snippet by searching for ' Default variable parameters in python'in kandi. You can try any such use case!

Environment Tested

I tested this solution in the following versions. Be mindful of changes when working with other versions.

  1. The solution is created in PyCharm 2021.3.
  2. The solution is tested on Python 3.9.7.

Using this solution, we are able to do default variable parameters in python with simple steps. This process also facilities an easy way to use, hassle-free method to create a hands-on working version of code which would help us to do default variable parameters in python.
