Meson / Ninja build system - How to run custom script at Uninstall?
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 18:46

Meson/Ninja provide an easy method to run a script at install time.
For example, this line will tell Meson to run the glib-compile-schemas command to compile the GSettings on Linux (system configuration options).

            meson.add_install_script('glib-compile-schemas', schemas_dir)
(this command will be automatically run when the user executes ninja install)

How can I tell Meson to run a custom command at uninstall?
In this specific case I would like to delete (or at least reset to default) the key-value pairs in GSettings. To reset them, I have found that the command is gsettings reset-recursively (successfully tested in terminal).

Adding custom uninstall script is still being discussed, it's proposed quite some time ago but not yet implemented. It looks this task is typically left for package manager (and therefore to corresponding packaged scripts).

But I agree, there is some illogical asymmetry in case of meson install command. As a workaround, you can create your own target:

The ASHWID provides a strong binding between the app/packag, which is not affected by OS re-installs and version updates for an app. But sometimes there are also other reasons can affect it, it is difficult to know which causes the change of the ASHWID.

Therefore, if you want to get the unique id to distinguish the device, maybe you could use SystemIdentification.GetSystemIdForPublisher method, the identifier returned by this method is specific to the app publisher on the current device. In other words, all apps by the same publisher will get the same value for this ID (for all users).

But whenever i wanted to run a python script using this package, there’s ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'stockstats'

            What I tried:

            pip3 show stockstats

As I really want to see where it was installed. It shows nothing. What it is supposed to do is like this:

            • reinstall python.

            • check that the module name is correctly typed

            • install stockstats in pip like "pip install stockstats" (getten from pypi.com)

How to remove VIM as my Mac editor vs sublime
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 06:57

How to remove VIM (completely) and change my mac command line editor to sublime?

I've spent the last three hours reading the same links on "how to remove VIM" only to get "how to remove MacVIM and reinstall it fresh" Or "How to remove Vim so I can reinstall it on Ubuntu"

My old laptop was fortunate to have a friend remove it but my new machine still has it installed.

I wish VIM would die in "words redacted to excessive profanity" dumpster fire while a hobo "words redacted to excessive profanity" to put out the fire

I've lost way too many hours trying to learn that outdated neckbeard elvish piece of UX trash so I want it gone. No, I'm not touching emacs.

Please tell me there is a way I can switch to sublime or am I permanently cursed to have this confusing black screen of death pop up when I try to git push or git tag stuff?

My original goal was to tag a git and push it but vim comes up and I can't figure out how to speak elvish.

I've been using PyCharm for a few years and love the interface but I need to dig deeper and a TDD Django book for class uses the terminal, it wants me to git -a "comments" so I need your advice.

So now I can't learn TDD Django because vim, MacVim and eMacs users flood the internet but I can't remove it nor figure out how to work it.

I've tried brew uninstall macvim which doesn't work because I have vim not macvim

I also tried sudo uninstall vim no luck as this is zsh mac not ubuntu

I tried brew uninstall vim to get No available formula or cask with the name "vim"

I've searched SO five times and keep getting the same links. Alternates I've tried brew uninstall ruby vim

per this post https://superuser.com/questions/1096438/brew-upgrade-broke-vim-on-os-x-dyld-library-not-loaded I tried, no luck.

You don't have to remove Vim from your machine. Instead, tell your system and your tools to use Sublime Text as default editor. After you have followed that tutorial, which I must point out is part of Sublime Text's documentation, you should have a system-wide subl command that you can use instead of vim. For that, you need to add those lines to your shell configuration file:

AnkhSVN hangs in VisualStudio 2017 after changing SVN password
            Asked 2021-Jun-14 at 21:34

I changed my password on SVN host (Assembla) and when using AnkhSVN in VisualStudio 2017 Community, Ankh asked for my new password, I entered it, but forgot to check the "Remember my password" checkbox. The password was correct as the svn actions worked. But when I restarted VS2017 it froze.

I started VS2017 with the commandline devenv /SafeMode and that worked. I set the SourceControl plugin to none and closed VS2017. I now starts without a problem, but when I select AnkhSVN as the SourceControl plugin, VS2017 hangs again.

I uninstalled and reinstalled AnkhSVN (2.9.58) again, but that didn't help either.

I suppose it is an authentication problem ? Can I force AnkhSVN to ask for my password again ?

I tried deleting de files in %APPDATA%\Subversion\auth\svn.simple but that didn't help, VS2017 still hangs when selecting the AnkhSVN SourceControl plugin. So I guess it's not an authentication problem.

I also checked %APPDATA%\Microsoft\VisualStudio\15.0_122aad70\ActivityLog.xml (by using devenv /log). The last entry is:

You can use a different svn client (example: TortoiseSVN, or cmd-line) to set the password. All SVN Clients share the same stored password mechanics. You can also remove the stored password(s) by accessing the saved passwords which are available under %APPDATA%\Subversion\auth\svn.simple removing the files inside will make SVN tools "forget" your passwords.

It didn't work so I've decided to uninstall it. I've tried 2 methods given at perl.com the first method didn't work as it required perl-5.14.2 The second method gave this message:

You've made a mess of things by incorrectly installing the module. Specifically, you didn't install the dependencies.

Ideally, you should use the package manager that provided perl itself. But they don't provide every module. So you'd use the non-package manager approach:

            ANSWER

            Answered 2021-Jun-03 at 20:36

You issue could well be that the database is using WAL (Write-Ahead logging) as opposed to journal mode.

With WAL changes are written to the WAL file (database file name suffixed with -wal and also another file -shm). If the database hasn't been committed and you only backup/restore the database file. You will lose data.

            • When fully committed, the -wal file will be 0 bytes or not exist, in which case it is not needed.

From Android 9 the default was changed from journal mode to WAL.

Assuming that this is your issue you have some options:-

            1. Use Journal mode (e.g. use the SQLiteDatabase disableWriteAheadLogging method)
            2. Backup/Restore all 3 files (if they exist)
            3. Fully Commit the database and then backup (closing the database should fully commit) and delete/rename the -wal file and -shm file before restoring.

Option 3 would be the recommended way as you then gain the advantages of WAL.

Here's an example of fully checkpointing (a little over the top but it works):-
