How to expand a shadow box beyond the container
            Asked 2022-Mar-28 at 14:09

I am creating a horizontal scroll with cards that cast a shadow.

I do not understand the reason why if I have 3 cards the shadow gets "clipped" but if I have 2 it doesn't.

This is how it should look:

This is how it looks when I have 3 or more elements (I suspect is more elements than those that fit in the screen).

How can I avoid this behaviour?

I have a Column inside a SingleChildScrollView. Inside that column, there are SingleChildScrollViews with Rows of cards.

This is the code inside the scaffold:

            ANSWER

            Answered 2022-Mar-25 at 17:35

This happens because with 2 elements, the SingleChildScrollView is treated as a Row as there is no scroll needed. The widget is made scrollable only when the 3rd element is added to list which makes it overflowed.

One of the workaround could be adding EdgeInsets.symmetric(vertical: value) in the padding parameter of SingleChildScrollView.

Another workaround could be removing Outer Padding Widget and adding EdgeInsets.symmetric(vertical: value) in the margin parameter of Container in CardCustom.

Setting mouse cursor with a delay from another thread
            Asked 2022-Feb-18 at 20:58

I have some work to do in my main thread that sometimes last longer than a few seconds. I want to change the mouse cursor to a busy state (hourglass, over the whole main form) when that happens. But this must be done with a delay (say 250 ms), because most of the time the work is shorter and changing the cursor too often is annoying. I cannot do this from the main thread because it is obviously busy doing something else. So I thought to do it from another thread. But... surprise ! Setting Screen.Cursor:= crHourGlass from a thread does not work. I think the Screen object is meant to be accessed only from the main thread. I cannot synchronize anything with the main thread while it is busy... Any ideas on how to make it work ?

            ANSWER

            Answered 2022-Feb-18 at 14:16

You will have to set the cursor using the thread that created the window. I would suggest changing your design and putting the work being done by the main thread into a worker thread which can be monitored by the main thread (perhaps using a timer or by the worker thread issuing Synchronize calls). Your main thread should not abandon the message loop that keeps the program running and responsive. So in general your main thread should be continuously listening for and handing the system messages that are sent to it. If any work may take some time put it into a worker thread.

For the Synchronise method to work the main thread has to be idle - the waiting Synchronise is picked up in the message loop.

and have same ID. ID should be unique for all HTML elements. JavaScript finds by ID only first occurrence of an element. var modalTimed and btnTimed are assigned to the same element because their IDs are identic. Change these.

var modalGolf defined before the HTML element that matches it. When you want to get an HTML element with JS, you should write that JS after an appropriate HTML is rendered. It's because code is executed line by line from top to bottom. JS at the top can't access HTML at the bottom. Other code that references to var modalGolf will not work. var spanGolf will not work, a reason is same.

Write all of your JS at the bottom of body tag. This will make your code cleaner and more understandable. Remember, JS blocks the code that after it from rendering/execution until it's done. So write your JS at the top of the page if you really need it

SwiftUI: Quiz, Toggle categories on/off and filter questions based on category status
            Asked 2022-Jan-10 at 22:50

I'm building a quiz app where the user should be able to select which categories they want to have, and then I'd like to filter the questions based on whether the category isActive.

I figure solving both would be too much for one post maybe, so I'm focusing on toggling the categories. I have tried creating a updateCategory function in my ViewModel but I can only tap on the first category. If I tap on any other category, only the first one gets updated (changes name and icon). Anyone that can point me in the right direction?

Error when trying to run simulation with Huang's UMAT using a single element
            Asked 2021-Dec-10 at 18:31

I am trying to use Huang's UMAT (http://www.columbia.edu/~jk2079/Kysar_Research_Laboratory/Single_Crystal_UMAT.html) in a cube element in Abaqus that I built following this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GQkNKI09ow.

Every time I tried to run the simulation, Abaqus/Standard Analysis exited with an error. The message file does not exist and in the warning tab in the monitor I can read the following: "The parameter hourglass = enhanced on the section controls option is relevant for these elements: c3d8r, cax4r, cgax4r, cpeg4r, cpe4r, cps4r, m3d4r, s4r, sc8r and their hybrid, thermal and pressure counterparts wherever applicable. It is also relevant for all types of modified triangular and tetrahedral elements. This warning can be ignored if the feature is applied to these element types only".

The following message also appeared the first time in which I tried to run the simulations: "1 elements have been defined with zero hour glass stiffness. You may use *hourglass stiffness or change the element type. The elements have been identified in element set ErrElemZeroHourGlassStiffness".

It seems that the problem is related to the hourglass parameter but I was not able to find a solution yet. Could someone please help me to understand what is the problem? My goal is to run this simulation.

            Answered 2021-Dec-10 at 18:31

I fixed the problem and I want to share how I did it. The hourglass was just a warning that you can solve using C3D20R elements. The error occurred due to the word STOP in the script. By replacing it for CALL XIT, the UMAT works (https://abaqus-docs.mit.edu/2017/English/SIMACAESUBRefMap/simasub-c-xit.htm). This applies to Abaqus2019 linked with Fortran according to the steps in https://www.researchgate.net/publication/349991987_Linking_ABAQUS_20192020_and_Intel_oneAPI_Base_Toolkit_FORTRAN_Compiler.
