            I think you need to explicitly create Func delegate in this case, otherwise F# compiler cannot distinguish between the two overloads.

            The type of the second argument (in the basic case) is Func<'T> i.e. a function taking unit and returning the value to be cached. This also means that, inside this function, you should call doAPIStuff with the parameters as arguments.

            I have an ASP.NET MVC5 application using Ninject for DI. I have a message that is displayed at the top of every page. The message is retrieved from a web service, using an async operation. The message itself is small and updated infrequently, so I want to cache it in memory.

            I've created a simple service that is configured as DI singleton. I had a nice thing going ReaderWriterLock, but that doesn't support async. So I've tried recreate the same thing with SemaphoreSlim. This is what I've got:

            How to Flush IAppCache Between Integration Tests

            I'm running integration tests with xUnit in ASP.NET, and one of which ensures that querying the data multiple times results in only 1 query to the server. If I run this test alone, then it works. If I run all the tests, then the server gets queried 0 times instead of 1 by this test. Which indicates that the result was already in the cache because of other tests.

            How can I ensure the IAppCache is empty at the beginning of the test? I'm using LazyCache implementation.

            My guess is that the class instance is recreated for each tests, but static data is shared; and the cache is static. I don't see any "flush" method on the cache.

            As mentioned in my OP comment LazyCache afaik doesn't have a clear operation or anything native to nuke the cache. However I think there are a few options at your disposal.

            • Implement a method before/after each test to remove the cache entries, using Remove;
            • Supply a different LazyCache cache provider for the tests that doesn't persist the cache between tests
            • Dig into LazyCache, get the underlying cache provider and see if that has any methods to clear the cache entries

            1 or 3 would be my picks. From a testing perspective, 1 means you need to know the internals of what you're testing. If it were me, I'm a bit lazy and would probably write the few lines to just nuke the cache.

            By default LazyCache uses MemoryCache as the cache provider. MemoryCache doesn't have an explicit clear operation either but Compact looks like it can essentially clear the cache when the compact percentage is set to 1.0. To access it, you'll need to get the underlying MemoryCache object from LazyCache:

            Been having some problems with a web based .Net(C#) application. I'm using the LazyCache library to cache frequent JSON responses (some in & around 80+KB) for users belonging to the same company across user sessions.

            One of the things we need to do is to keep track of the cache keys for a particular company so when any user in the company makes mutating changes to items being cached we need to clear the cache for those items for that particular company's users to force the cache to be repopulated immediately upon the receiving the next request.

            We choose LazyCache library as we wanted to do this in memory without needing to use an external cache source such as Redis etc as we don't have heavy usage.

            One of the problems we have using this approach is we need to keep track of all the cache keys belonging to a particular customer anytime we cache. So when any mutating change is made by company user's to the relevant resource we need to expire all the cache keys belonging to that company.

            To achieve this we have a global cache which all web controllers have access to.

            Large objects (> 85k) belong in gen 2 Large Object Heap (LOH), and they are pinned in memory.

            1. GC scans LOH and marks dead objects
            2. Adjacent dead objects are combined into free memory
            3. The LOH is not compacted
            4. Further allocations only try to fill in the holes left by dead objects.

            No compaction, but only reallocation may lead to memory fragmentation. Long running server processes can be done in by this - it is not uncommon. You are probably seeing fragmentation occur over time.

            Server GC just happens to be multi-threaded - I wouldn't expect it to solve fragmentation.

            You could try breaking up your large objects - this might not be feasible for your application.

            You can try setting LargeObjectHeapCompaction after a cache clear - assuming it's infrequent.
