Android studio - Generate signed APKs broke
            Asked 2022-Mar-15 at 13:50

I just updated my Android studio to the version 2021.1.1 Canary 12. After struggling to make it work, I had to also upgrade my Gradle and Gradle plugin to 7.0.2. Now I can compile my project and launch my app on my mobile, everything is working. But when I try to generate a Signed APK, I get a strange message after building telling me: APK(s) generated successfully for module 'android-mobile-app-XXXX.app' with 0 build variants:

Even though the build seem to be successful I cannot find the generated APK anywhere (and considering the time it takes to give me that error, I don't even think it is building anything). Now, I have been generating an APK every week for years now, so I know my way around the folders, the different build variant output folders etc... Nothing changed in my way of generating an APK. I do it via AS and follow the very standard procedure.

Can someone point to me what am I missing here? I assume there is a way to select a specific build variant when generating a signed APK, how does it works?

PS: Obviously, I am selecting my variant here during the process:

PS2: I can generate a debug APK without any issue whatsoever.

Well thanks to the security update released by Google few months before. This makes the link sharing stricter and you need resource key as well to access the file in-addition to the fileId.

As per the documentation , You need to provide the resource key as well for newer links, if you want to access it in the header X-Goog-Drive-Resource-Keys as fileId1/resourceKey1.

If you apply this change in your code, it will work as normal. Example edit below:

It looks like setuptools>=58 breaks support for use_2to3:

            setuptools changelog for v58

So you should update setuptools to setuptools<58 or avoid using packages with use_2to3 in the setup parameters.

Looks like you have resolved the embedding part of your question and are left with just the deletion of the extracted DLLs.

Because the DLL is inuse but your own process, unless you are able to uload the DLL successfully, I dont think you will be able to delete the DLL.

            1st Potential Option

One thing you could try and do is schedule the deletion of the file after reboot. This SO post explains how to do that using P/Invoke and MoveFileEx.

Today, I could finally install version 30.0.3.

In Android Studio, I could see and install it from here...

After this, and then also having to remove the whitelist plugin (it is not required any more), I could get it to build.

Only hassle now is it outs to a .aab and not an .apk so side load testing now harder. But the main issue, the building is now working (on Windows PC).. Now hopefully can do the same on the Mac.

Share media between multiple django(VMs) servers
            Asked 2022-Jan-15 at 10:58

We have deployed a django server (nginx/gunicorn/django) but to scale the server there are multiple instances of same django application running.

            Here is the diagram (architecture):

Each blue rectangle is a Virtual Machine.

HAProxy sends all request to example.com/admin to Server 3.other requests are divided between Server 1 and Server 2.(load balance).

            Old Problem:

Each machine has a media folder and when admin Uploads something the uploaded media is only on Server 3. (normal users can't upload anything)

We solved this by sending all requests to example.com/media/* to Server 3 and nginx from Server3 serves all static files and media.

            Problem right now

            We are also using sorl-thumbnail.

When a requests comes for example.com/,sorl-thumbnail tries to access the media file but it doesn't exist on this machine because it's on Server3.

So now all requests to that machine(server 1 or 2) get 404 for that media file.

One solution that comes to mind is to make a shared partition between all 3 machines and use it as media. Another solution is to sync all media folders after each upload but this solution has problem and that is we have almost 2000 requests per second and sometimes sync might not be fast enough and sorl-thumbnail creates the database record of empty file and 404 happens.

Thanks in advance and sorry for long question.

You should use an object store to save and serve your user uploaded files. django-storages makes the implementation really simple.

If you don’t want to use cloud based AWS S3 or equivalent, you can host your own on-prem S3 compatible object store with minio.

On your current setup I don’t see any easy way to fix where the number of vm s are dynamic depending on load.

If you have deployment automation then maybe try out rsync so that the vm takes care of syncing files with other vms.

Warning when building app: "Expected stack map table for method with non-linear control flow."
            Asked 2021-Dec-24 at 04:57

I have a project on which I worked last year. Recently I started working on it again but wanted to update everything that was possible. I managed to resolve basically all problems except this one. I can't find anything online about this warning. I get it when I build the project. I tried downloading and using the latest tapjoy jar but it still appears. In the warning there is a path to a cache folder so I tried deleting it but id didn't change anything; maybe I'm getting this warning because those folders are missing?

The full warning is like this:

            ANSWER

            Answered 2021-Nov-19 at 10:14

The missing folder should have nothing to do with this warning. I had this problem in the process of writing custom gradle plug-ins. It seems that ClassWriter or ClassVisitor in ASM did not implement any method, there will be this warning, but that does not affect normal functionality. You can check that your project has used those gradle plug-ins, perhaps these plug-ins are caused by the update of the problem.
