QUESTION
I am having this weird issue with elastic beanstalk. I am using docker compose to run multiple docker containers on same elastic beanstalk instance.
if I run 4 docker containers everything works fine. but if i make it 5, deploy fails with error Instance deployment failed to download the Docker image. The deployment failed
.
and if I check eb-engine.log. it retries to docker pull
command and fails with error.
this is really weird error. bcs all docker images are valid and correctly tagged. it just the number of services that I am adding in docker compose file. if number is greater than 4, deploy fails
my question is, is there any limit of docker services that can be run using docker compose ? or is there any timeout in elastic beanstalk to pull images?
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Jun-16 at 03:01Based on the comments.
The issue was that t2.micro
instance was used. The instance has only 1 vCPu and 1GB of ram. This was not enough to run 5 docker containers. Changing instance type to t2.large
with 8GB ram and 2 vCPUs solved the problem.
docker-compose allows to specify cpu and memory limits. Maybe you can set them up to keep your containers resource requirements in check.
QUESTION
I've been struggling with this all over my react-native app, so I set up a very simple example of it in codesandbox which you can view here:
https://codesandbox.io/s/elastic-star-5754q?file=/src/App.js
Within the View with the green background, all of the internal views are centered horizontally within their respective spaces as I would expect thanks to the "alignItems: center" style property. I would expect that I could also center them vertically within their spaces by setting "justifyContent: center", but that doesn't seem to work for me.
Am I fundamentally misunderstanding something?
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Jun-15 at 21:59The problem is that you are not aligning the text within the individual Views. Your example mistakenly aligns the inner View elements within the larger View element rather than aligning the text.
To center-align the text vertically within their Views you just need to add justifyContent: "center"
to those individual three green Views.
Here's an example: https://codesandbox.io/s/recursing-kirch-n8one?file=/src/App.js:393-417
To further explain why you were experiencing the issue you did, see this screenshot with boxes outlining the space the elements were taking up on-screen:
You can see the inner View
s are only taking up the needed width of the text
elements inside, but are using the max height available to them.
QUESTION
I'm running boto with python3 and I'm running an ansible playbook to setup some ec2 instances.
Everything is fine, creating instances, security groups, key pairs, everything in eu-west-2
.
When the task for Elastic IPs runs it fails with this message:
Region eu-west-2 does not seem to be available for aws module boto.ec2. If the region definitely exists, you may need to upgrade boto or extend with endpoints_path
I'm running ansible with -e ansible_python_interpreter="/usr/bin/python3"
.
I have latest boto installed.
ANSWER
Answered 2021-Mar-03 at 11:06I resorted to using the community module for elastic ip.
So community.aws.ec2_eip
instead of ec2_eip
.
QUESTION
I am trying to search for a particular string in two fields. Right I am able to get the desired result. Now I want to rank the result in such a way that if value found in one key, it should be given more priority. I tried doing the following way but got error.
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Jun-15 at 13:46You can rank the search result by using "^" in with their names. In your case it would be something like this.
QUESTION
I'm starting to use gitlab CI/CD pipeline but have some doubts regarding the output of the building process if i was to have a project(Repo) and inside this project I have the front and backend separated by the project structure, ex:
CarProject.gitlab-ci.yml
|__FrontEndCarProject
|__BackendCarProject
let's say that every time I change something in the frontend I would need to build it and deploy it to S3, but there is no need to build the backend (java application) and deploy it to elastic beanstalk (and vice versa for when i change the backend)..Is there a way to check where the changes have been made(FrontEndCarProject/BackendCarProject) using GitLab and redirect the .gitlab-ci.yml to a script file depending on if a have to deploy to S3 or elastic beanstalk?
Just trying
Note: another way is just to manually change the yml file depending on where i want to deploy..but is there a way to autodetect this and automated?
.gitlab-ci.yml...Just to get the idea, heres an example that would run in a linear way, but how can i conditionally build/deploy(depending on my front or backend)? should i keep them in different repos for simplicity? is it a good practice?
ANSWER
Answered 2021-Jun-15 at 05:30If your frontend and backend can be built and deployed seperately, than you can use rules:changes to check if a change happened and need:optional to only deploy the respective built libraries.
QUESTION
I am using the ECK operator, to create an Elasticsearch
instance.
The instance uses a StorageClass
that has Retain
(instead of Delete
) as its reclaim policy.
Here are my PVC
s before deleting the Elasticsearch
instance
ANSWER
Answered 2021-Jun-14 at 15:38with the hope that due to the Retain policy, the new pods (i.e. their PVCs would bind to the existing PVs (and data wouldn't get lost)
It is explicitly written in the documentation that this is not what happens. the PVs are not available for another PVC after delete of a PVC.
the PersistentVolume still exists and the volume is considered "released". But it is not yet available for another claim because the previous claimant's data remains on the volume.
QUESTION
My python (Django) application stores confidential documents and has a private bucket in AWS S3.
When you make a request for the resource, it uses boto3 to generate a pre-signed URL to be able to download the document.
The code to do so is as follows:
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Jun-14 at 00:04Your code on your EB instance uses instance role to provide it with AWS credentials. When you do this, x-amz-security-token
is used which is a regular part of AWS credentails when you use IAM roles.
In contrast, when you run it locally, you use IAM user for AWS credentials. In that case, token is not used.
QUESTION
Before I run eb create
command, how can I tell Elastic Beanstalk to use a DIFFERENT docker-compose
file?
For example, my project directory:
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Jun-12 at 22:39You can't do this from command level. But I guess you could write container_commands script to rename your docker-compose
file from docker-compose.dev.yml
to docker-compose.yml
:
You can use the container_commands key to execute commands that affect your application source code. Container commands run after the application and web server have been set up and the application version archive has been extracted, but before the application version is deployed.
UPDATE 12 Jun 2021
I tried to replicate the issue using simplified setup with just docker-compose.prod.yml
and Docker running on 64bit Amazon Linux 2
3.4.1 EB platform.
docker-compose.prod.yml
QUESTION
I have been building our grails app to AWS Elastic Beanstalk through Jenkins for awhile now without issue, jumping and building between branches for years. This became an issue, though, when adding the grails test suite into the build.
I set up a test database for jenkins to use itself and let grails populate all the table data on its own, it worked for several months until recently when I decided to deploy a branch that was around 6 months old to one of our development environments. As you can guess, a branch 6 months old was missing some columns that were in more recent releases, and hence in the database, so grails deleted those columns, and tested and deployed without issue.
The problem arose when I went to deploy a more recent branch to a different environment, and grails test-app started failing due to sql errors because the app was trying to use a column that didn't exist on that table.
I dug into it further and discovered in the logs that when grails should have been trying to update the tables because they already existed and just needed a column added, it was trying to insert the tables instead. Obviously this caused issue with the tables already existing and the database not being updated.
Does anyone have any knowledge on how to force grails test-app to update the database tables instead of try to insert them? This has never happened in the use of the app, so I know this is localized to an issue with the test-suite, but the documentation on it is kind of bad, especially for grails 2.3.11 so I can't find anything.
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Jun-12 at 22:09This ended up being due to the old branch that was deployed having a different dbCreate value for the test environment, so for some reason when it made it's changes with the dbCreate property of "update" then switched back to "create-drop" it no longer could drop the tables before re-adding them.
QUESTION
I want to use the elasticsearch Geo-polygon query (https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/query-dsl-geo-polygon-query.html) or Geo-shape query inside an ingest pipeline and I've been thinking how to do it - as there is no such processor as query processor
and the example for the geo polygon is with this type of query.
The reason for me trying to use this tool is to enrich documents which's country location is null
, by checking their lat
and lon
fields and determining which country the doc is from.
Is there anyway this could be done in an ingest pipeline? Or any other way to determine a position by lat and lon within geo shapes in a pipeline?
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Jun-12 at 07:49Answer for enrichment of the data with geo-based policy: https://discuss.elastic.co/t/geo-polygon-query-inside-ingest-pipeline/274886/9
Also note that there is a feature suggestion pending in Elastic Github in order to exclude the geo-shape used for the enrichment, so there will be no need for a second pipeline to delete the field.
