QUESTION
I'm new to Kibana and trying to setup Elastic Stack locally (on Ubuntu 20.04) following this tutorial: https://www.rosehosting.com/blog/how-to-install-elk-s..
All systemd services are running, but Kibana is not accessible.
curl -XGET http://localhost:5601
results in curl: (7) Failed to connect to localhost port 5601: Connection refused
netstat also shows that port 5601 is not listening. I've made these changes to kibana.yml:
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-May-29 at 10:33I guess the issue happened for timing out for the Kibana connection, First of all make sure that you Elasticsearch server is up and running (the default port is on 9200 ) and by typing the localhost:9200 on a browser you must get following massage

In GCP compute Linux Accidentally did cat filebeat instead of filebeat.yaml
after that my bashrc contains below chars and if I type '~' bash is printing 'ü' Need help in fixing this
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-May-17 at 08:56This looks like your terminal was accidentally configured for legacy ISO-646-SE or a variant. Your file is probably fine; it's just that your terminal remaps the display characters according to a scheme from the 1980s.
A quick hex dump should verify that the characters in the file are actually correct. Here's an example of what you should see.
QUESTION
I have a list of inputs in filebeat, for example
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-May-14 at 14:17You can use YAML's inheritance : your first input is used as a model, and the others can override parameters.
QUESTION
I have Elasticsearch, logstash, Kibana and filebeat installed on my local machine. I would like to pull in the data from our Azure DevOps automation build pipeline. E.g. We have a Cypress Automation Build Pipeline in Azure DevOps which runs our automation tests and I would like to use Elasticsearch to query the results, show the total number of tests run, number of passed and failed tests and build the Kibana visualization graph.
How do I configure the filebeat.yml file to pull the Azure logs in using a local intallation or Elasticsearch?
From filebeat.yml the input paths section I see it wants a path to the log file.
From Azure Devops, from our build pipeline if I download the logs and save them to my local and then I upload the logs from my localhost Kibana http://localhost:5601/ From Ingest Node Pipelines i selected Upload a file and then select the index pattern
I see some data.
This is not the correct way as I would have to download the logs manually each day.
How would I configure the filebeat.yml to pull in the logs from Azure.
Can it not be done using a local installation of Elasticsearch?
Any help, guidance much appreciated. Thank you
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-May-03 at 00:46Instead of using local files, use Filebeat's Azure Module.
QUESTION
I am trying to develop more visibility around aws. I'd really like to use the prebuilt dashboards that come with filebeat, but I seem to constantly run into issues with the visualizations for elb and vpcflow logs. My configuration looks like this:
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Apr-26 at 20:50For this particular situation if you don't use the deafault filebeaat-*
index there are issues getting the prebuilt dashboards to spin up. I dropped the custom indexing that I had in my configuration and I was able to get the dashboards to load properly.
QUESTION
I have a filebeat
configured to send my k8s cluster logs to Elasticsearch
.
When I connect to the pod directly (kubectl exec -it -- sh -c bash
),
the generated output logs aren't being sent to the destination.
Digging at k8s docs, I couldn't find how k8s is handling STDOUT from a running shell.
How can I configure k8s to send live shell logs?
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Apr-26 at 06:17Kubernetes has (mostly) nothing to do with this, as logging is handled by the container environment used to support Kubernetes, which is usually docker.
Depending on docker version, logs of containers could be written on json-file, journald or more, with the default being a json file. You can do a docker info | grep -i logging
to check what is the Logging Driver used by docker. If the result is json-file, logs are being written down on a file in json format. If there's another value, logs are being handled in another way (and as there are various logging drivers, I suggest to check the documentation about them)
If the logs are being written on file, chances are that by using docker inspect container-id | grep -i logpath
, you'll be able to see the path on the node.
Filebeat simply harvest the logs from those files and it's docker who handles the redirection between the application STDOUT inside the container and one of those files, with its driver.
Regarding exec commands not being in logs, this is an open proposal ( https://github.com/moby/moby/issues/8662 ) as not everything is redirected, just logs of the apps started by the entrypoint itself.
There's a suggested workaround which is ( https://github.com/moby/moby/issues/8662#issuecomment-277396232 )
In the mean time you can try this little hack....
echo hello > /proc/1/fd/1
Redirect your output into PID 1's (the docker container) file descriptor for STDOUT
Which works just fine but has the problem of requiring a manual redirect.
QUESTION
Let's say that I have a system that, instead of appending log lines on a given log file, outputs individual files for each 'log event'. The files have a common name pattern but contain a timestamp and another variable parameter.
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Apr-23 at 15:42You could use a file input in read mode. Note that the default operation is to delete the file after reading it, but you can change that to just log that it was read.
filebeat can also read based on a wildcard pattern. It is lighter weight than logstash, so if you are not doing other processing in the pipeline you might prefer that.
QUESTION
I am trying to merge filebeat messages in LogStash. I have the next Log file:
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Apr-20 at 09:28It is possible, you'll need to look for the multiline messages in the filebeat input: https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/beats/filebeat/current/multiline-examples.html somthing like below would do it i think:
