I have an openshift namespace (SomeNamespace
), in that namespace I have several pods.
I have a route associated with that namespace (SomeRoute
).
In one of pods I have my spring application. It has REST controllers.
I want to send message to that REST controller, how can I do it?
I have a route URL: https://some.namespace.company.name
. What should I find next?
I tried to send requests to https://some.namespace.company.name/rest/api/route
but it didn't work. I guess, I must somehow specify pod in my URL, so route will redirect requests to concrete pod but I don't know how I can do it.

I am fairly new to OpenShift and have been using CRC (Code Ready Containers) for a little while, and now decided to install the single server OpenShift on bare metal using the Assisted-Installer method from https://cloud.redhat.com/blog/deploy-openshift-at-the-edge-with-single-node-openshift and https://console.redhat.com/openshift/assisted-installer/clusters/. This has worked well and I have a functional single-server.
As a single server in a test environment (without NFS available) I need/want to create PersistentVolumes with hostPath (localhost storage) - these work flawlessly in CRC. However on the full install, I run into an issue when mounting PVC's to pods as the pods were not running privileged. I edited the deployment config and added the lines below (within the containers hash)

You are using hostPath to make use of arbitrary disk space available on the underlying host's volume. hostPath can also be used to read/write any directory path on the underlying host's volume -- which, as you can imagine, should be used with great care.

I am using official Helm chart for airflow. Every Pod works properly except Worker node.
Even in that worker node, 2 of the containers (git-sync and worker-log-groomer) works fine.
The error happened in the 3rd container (worker) with CrashLoopBackOff. Exit code status as 137 OOMkilled.
In my openshift, memory usage is showing to be at 70%.
Although this error comes because of memory leak. This doesn't happen to be the case for this one. Please help, I have been going on in this one for a week now.

Answered 2022-Feb-22 at 10:04In kafka config you can use reconnect.backoff.max.ms config parameter to set a maximum number of milliseconds to retry connecting. Additionally, set the parameter reconnect.backoff.ms to a base number of milliseconds to wait before retrying to connect.
If provided, the backoff per host will increase exponentially for each consecutive connection failure, up to this maximum.

If you set the max milliseconds to reconnect to something fairly high, like a day, the connection will be reattempted for up to a day (With increasing intervals, 50,500,5000,50000 etc').

I'm trying to deploy a HA Keycloak cluster (2 nodes) on Kubernetes (GKE). So far the cluster nodes (pods) are failing to discover each other in all the cases as of what I deduced from the logs. Where the pods initiate and the service is up but they fail to see other nodes.

Answered 2022-Feb-05 at 13:58The way KUBE_PING works is similar to running kubectl get pods
inside one Keycloak pod to find the other Keycloak pods' IPs and then trying to connect to them one by one. Except Keycloak does that by querying the Kubernetes API directly instead of running kubectl
.
To do that, it needs credentials to query the API, basically an access token.
You can pass your token directly, if you have it, but its not very secure and not very convenient (you can check other options and behavior here).
Kubernetes have a very convenient way to inject a token to be used by a pod (or a software running inside that pod) to query the API. Check the documentation for a deeper look.
The mechanism is to create a service account, give it permissions to call the API using a RoleBinding and set that account in the pod configuration.
That works by mounting the token as a file at a known location, hardcoded and expected by all Kubernetes clients. When the client wants to call the API it looks for a token at that location.
Although not very convenient, you may be in the even more inconvenient situation of lacking permissions to create RoleBindings (somewhat common in more strict environments).
You can then ask an admin to create the service account and RoleBinding for you or just (very unsecurely) pass you own user's token (if you are capable of doing a kubectl get pod
on Keycloak's namespace you have the permissions) via SA_TOKEN_FILE
environment variable.
Create the file using a secret or configmap, mount it to the pod and set SA_TOKEN_FILE
to that file location. Note that this method is specific to Keycloak.

you can see them all. If you want to do a docker build you use the dockerStrategy
, if you want to build from source code using source2image you specify the sourceStrategy
.
Sometimes you have more complex needs than simply running a build with an output image, let's say you want to run the build, wait for that image to be deployed to some environment and then run some automated GUI tests. In this case you need a pipeline. If you want to trigger and configure this pipeline from the OpenShift Web Console you would use the jenkinsPipelineStrategy
in your BuildConfig. In the OpenShift 3.x web console such BuildConfigs are presented as Pipelines and not Builds even though they are all really BuildConfigs.
Any BuildConfig with the jenkinsPipelineStrategy
will be executed by the Jenkins Build Server running inside the project. That Jenkins instance could also have other pipelines that are not mapped or visible in the OpenShift Web Console, there does not need to be a BuildConfig for every Jenkinsfile if you don't see the benefit of them appearing in the OpenShift Web Console.
The difference of running builds inside a Jenkinsfile and a BuildConfig with some non-jenkinsfile-strategy is that the build is actually executed inside the jenkins build agent rather than a normal OpenShift build pod.
At our company we utilize a combination of jenkinsFile pipelines and BuildConfigs with the sourceStrategy
. Instead of running builds in our Jenkinsfile pipelines directly inside the Jenkins build agent we let the pipeline call the OpenShift API and tell it to execute the BuildConfig with sourceStrategy. is used to set the group that owns the pod volumes. This group will be used by Kubernetes to change the permissions of all files in volumes, when volumes are mounted by a pod.
The owning GID will be the FSGroup
The setgid bit is set (new files created in the volume will be owned by FSGroup)
The permission bits are OR'd with rw-rw----
If unset, the Kubelet will not modify the ownership and permissions of any volume.
Some caveats when using FSGroup
:
Changing the ownership of a volume for slow and/or large file systems can cause delays in pod startup.
This can harm other processes using the same volume if their processes do not have permission to access the new GID.
SupplementalGroups
- controls which supplemental group ID can be assigned to processes in a pod.
A list of groups applied to the first process run in each container, in addition to the container's primary GID. If unspecified, no groups will be added to any container.
Additionally from the OpenShift documentation:
The recommended way to handle NFS access, assuming it is not an option to change permissions on the NFS export, is to use supplemental groups. Supplemental groups in OpenShift Container Platform are used for shared storage, of which NFS is an example. In contrast, block storage such as iSCSI uses the fsGroup SCC strategy and the fsGroup value in the securityContext of the pod.
