Be sure to stop ArchivesSpace before attempting to install updates. It may be a good idea to restart your machine. Select the tab labeled Upgrade ArchivesSpace. The following gives an overview of the fields listed on this tab. Once you have completed all the required fields, click Install Upgrade to begin the update. This may take a while. Do not be concerned if the progress bar does not move for awhile as some steps take longer than others and it does not always indicate steady progress. When the update is finished, you can safely exit out of the installer. You will find a backup of your database before the installation in the data folder unless you were informed during the update process that a backup could not be created. If your upgrade is not successful, you will receive an error message and the installer will remove all files so that you can start again after correcting any issues. Please note that it is best to close the installer and open it again before attempting another upgrade.

Do not be concerned if the progress bar does not move for awhile as some steps take longer than others and it does not always indicate steady progress. To start up ArchivesSpace, run with archivesspace.bat which is found in the archivesspace folder in your install directory. Install Directory: This is the base directory for your ArchivesSpace installation. A folder called 'archivesspace' will be created within this directory and will contain all the files neccesary to run ArchivesSpace. (Note: your install directory cannot have spaces in any part of its name. Be sure to remove any spaces before attempting an installation.)
Version: Specify the version of ArchivesSpace you want to install. By default, the latest release will be installed. If you wish to install a different version, uncheck the box labeled Install Latest ArchivesSpace Version and select your desired version from the dropdown.
Config Options Disable public interface: Select this box if you do not plan to use ArchivesSpace's public user interface and want to disable it. URLs: The next few boxes are used to set the URLs for the various ArchivesSpace components. The default values are included by default.
Database: There are 2 choices for how you want to handle creating your database. Option 1: Use the ArchivesSpace installer to create your database. Before you do this, you will need to install MySQL Community Server. Create Database: You should select this box since you want the installer to create the database for you. MySQL Admin Username and Password: Enter the credentials for a MySQL user that has permissions to create a new database. If you followed the instructions on this page for installing MySQL, than the username and password are the credentials you entered when you created a user on the Accounts and Roles page. If you installed MySQL on the same machine you are installing ArchivesSpace on, you could also use root as the username and the password would be whatever you set MySQL Root Password to during the MySQL installation process. Database Name: Enter the name you want the new database to have. Something descriptive like aspace or archivesspace would be a good choice. Host: The host name to connect to MySQL. This may be localhost, an IP address, or a URL. If you installed MySQL on the same machine you are installing ArchivesSpace on, than this will be localhost. Otherwise you will need to determine the IP address or URL of the server where you installed MySQL. Port: The port to connect to MySQL. This should be a number (probably it is 3306 unless you changed it). MySQL Username and Password: Fill in the username and password for a user for whom to grant access to the database. This can either be credentials for a MySQL user that already exists or it can be a user that does not yet exist but will be created during the installation process. Option 2: Connect ArchivesSpace to a database that already exists. Before you do this, you will need to install MySQL Community Server and create a database for ArchivesSpace according to these instructions. You do not need to run the database setup script since the installer will do this for you. Create Database: Unselect this box since you have already created a database for ArchivesSpace MySQL Admin Username and Password: You do not need to fill in these fields. Database Name: Enter the name of the database that has already been created for ArchivesSpace. Only use a database that is empty as the installer will assume that it is empty and will not back up this database. Host: The host name to connect to MySQL. This may be localhost, an IP address, or a URL. If MySQL is installed on the same machine you are installing ArchivesSpace on, than this will be localhost. Otherwise you will need to determine the IP address or URL of the server where you installed MySQL. Port: The port to connect to MySQL. MySQL Username and Password: Enter the credentials for the user to whom you granted access to the database you created for Archivesspace.
