            I am using spring-cloud-stream-kafka-binder-3.0.4 to consume the messages in batch, after consuming, converting the Message into object but getting the above exception.

            I managed to solve this Exception, by adding a Deserialiser.

            So Below is my batch Listener, Instead of consuming List> messages as mentioned in the question, consuming List messages.

            Example on handling processing exception in Spring Cloud Streams with Kafka Streams Binder and the functional style processor

            I am using Spring Cloud Streams with the Kafka Streams Binder, the functional style processor API and also multiple processors.

            It's really cool to configure a processing application with multiple processors and multiple Kafka topics in this way and staying in the Spring Boot universe with /actuator, WebClient and so on. Actually I like it more than using plain Apache Kafka Streams.

            BUT: I would like to integrate exception handling for exceptions occurring within the processors and sending these unprocessable messages to a DLQ. I have setup already DLQs for deserialization errors, but I found no good advice on achieving this besides sobychacko's answer on a similar question. But this is only a snippet! Does anybody have a more detailed example? I am asking this because the Spring Cloud Stream documentation on branching looks quite different.

            Default is headers for the Apache Kafka binder.

            In general, you can assume that for middleware that supports headers natively (e.g. Kafka since, the default will be headers; for middleware that has no support for headers, it will be embeddedHeaders or none depending on what the developer chose.

            Retry max 3 times when consuming batches in Spring Cloud Stream Kafka Binder

            I am consuming batches in kafka, where retry is not supported in spring cloud stream kafka binder with batch mode, there is an option given that You can configure a SeekToCurrentBatchErrorHandler (using a ListenerContainerCustomizer) to achieve similar functionality to retry in the binder.

            I tried the same, but with SeekToCurrentBatchErrorHandler, but it's retrying more than the time set which is 3 times.

            1. How can I do that? I would like to retry the whole batch.

            2. How can I send the whole batch to dlq topic? like for record listener I used to match deliveryAttempt(retry) to 3 then send to DLQ topic, check in listener.

            I have checked this link, which is exactly my issue but an example would be great help, with this library spring-cloud-stream-kafka-binder, can I achieve that. Please explain with an example, I am new to this.

            Use a RetryingBatchErrorHandler to send the whole batch to the DLT


            Use a RecoveringBatchErrorHandler where you can throw a BatchListenerFailedException to tell it which record in the batch failed.


            In both cases provide a DeadLetterPublishingRecoverer to the error handler; disable DLTs in the binder.


            Here's an example; it uses the newer functional style rather than the deprecated @StreamListener, but the same concepts apply (but you should consider moving to the functional style).

            I am using Spring Cloud stream with Kafka binder. To disable the auto-create topics I referred to this- How can I configure a Spring Cloud Stream (Kafka) application to autocreate the topics in Confluent Cloud?. But, it seems that setting this property is not working and the framework creates the topics automatically.

            I am following this template for Spring-cloud-stream-kafka but got stuck while making the producer method transactional. I have not used kafka earlier so need help with this in case any configuration changes needed in kafka

            It works well if no transactional configuration added but when transactional configurations are added it gets timed out at startup -

            Look at the server log.

            Transactional producers will time out if there are fewer replicas of the transaction state log than required. By default 3 replicas are required and a minimum of 2 need to be in sync.

            It looks like that application is a bit behind with the versions used for Spring Boot and Spring Cloud. The concepts explained in that tutorial are still perfectly valid though. I sent a PR to the original repository used for that spring-tips in which I updated the versions used. More importantly, the actual code is also upgraded to reflect the latest recommended functional model of writing components in Spring Cloud Stream. I hope that helps.

            Unable to set serde, producer and consumer properties per topic/binder level in spring cloud kafka

            I'm trying to bring up simple pub-sub application using spring cloud kafka binder. However I'm unable to set Serializer, DeSerialzer property and other producer and consumer properties in application.yml. I consistently get serialization/deserialization error. Even kafka logs in spring boot project shows producer and consumer config still users ByteArraySerializer. Below is the code sameple.

            Serdes are used by the Kafka Streams binder.

            With the MessageChannel binder, the properties are value.serializer and value.deserializer (and key...), and key/value.deserializer.

            You also have to specify the fully qualified named of the classes.

            I'm currently building an application that writes to a kafka topic and listens to that very same topic to generate a ktable from it and materialize it into a store. The code i'm running is based on the following sample. I pretty much copied most of it (all except PageViewEventSource) and refactored the names to my use case. I also updated my application.properties with the keys used in the sample.
