Sliding window based on Akka actor source not behaving as expected
            Asked 2021-Jun-14 at 16:30

Using below code I'm attempting to use an actor as a source and send messages of type Double to be processed via a sliding window.

The sliding windows is defined as sliding(2, 2) to calculate each sequence of twp values sent.

            Sending the message:

The short answer is that your source is a recipe of sorts for materializing a Source and each materialization ends up being a different source.

In your code, source.to(Sink.foreach(System.out::println)).run(system) is one stream with the materialized actorRef being only connected to this stream, and

Apache flink Confluent org.apache.avro.generic.GenericData$Record cannot be cast to java.lang.String
            Asked 2021-May-04 at 13:31

I have a Apache Flink Application, where I want to filter the data by Country which gets read from topic v01 and write the filtered data into the topic v02. For testing purposes I tried to write everything in uppercase.

            My Code:

            Answered 2021-May-04 at 13:31

Just to extend the comment that has been added. So, basically if You use ConfluentRegistryAvroDeserializationSchema.forGeneric the data produced my the consumer isn't really String but rather GenericRecord. So, the moment You will try to use it in Your map that expects String it will fail, because your DataStream is not DataStream but rather DataStream.

Now, it works if You remove the map only because You havent specified the type when defining FlinkKafkaConsumer and your FlinkKafkaProducer, so Java will just try to cast every object to required type. Your FlinkKafkaProducer is actually FlinkKafkaProducer so there will be no problem there and thus it will work as it should.

In this particular case You don't seem to be needing Avro at all, since the data is just raw CSV.

UPDATE: Seems that You are actually processing Avro, in this case You need to change the type of Your DataStream to DataStream and all the functions You gonna write are going to work using GenericRecord not String.

            So, You need something like:

PyFlink: called already closed and NullPointerException
            Asked 2021-Apr-16 at 09:32

I run into an issue where a PyFlink job may end up with 3 very different outcomes, given very slight difference in input, and luck :(

The PyFlink job is simple. It first reads from a csv file, then process the data a bit with a Python UDF that leverages sklearn.preprocessing.LabelEncoder. I have included all necessary files for reproduction in the GitHub repo.

            To reproduce:

            • conda env create -f environment.yaml
            • conda activate pyflink-issue-call-already-closed-env
            • pytest to verify the udf defined in ml_udf works fine
            • python main.py a few times, and you will see multiple outcomes

            There are 3 possible outcomes.

            Outcome 1: success!

It prints 90 expected rows, in a different order from outcome 2 (see below).

            Outcome 2: call already closed

It prints 88 expected rows first, then throws exceptions complaining java.lang.IllegalStateException: call already closed.

Regarding outcome 2, it is because the input date (see below) has double quotes. Handling the double quotes properly will fix the issue.

For Pandas UDF, the input type for each input argument is Pandas.Series and the result type should also be a Pandas.Series. Besides, the length of the result should be the same as the inputs. Could you check if this is the case for your Pandas UDF implementation?

Then I decide to add a pytest unit test for my UDF to verify the input and output type. Here is how:

I have a PyFlink job that reads from a csv file (in path data.txt), sum up the first 2 integer columns, and print the result.

It must be because I setup my env using pip. I have pip install-ed a few things: numpy, torch, scipy, scikit_learn, etc, and finally, apache-flink. I realize this may be problematic, therefore I setup a brand new environment with apache-flink installed only, and that resolves the above problem.

            Scala Akka Typed - pipeToSelf
            Asked 2021-Mar-05 at 10:58

I'm trying to use the new Akka Actor API. I want to pipe the result of a Future to actor that invoked it. To do this, I'm using pipeToSelf. However, I'm getting this error:

not enough arguments for method pipeToSelf: (future: java.util.concurrent.CompletionStage[Value], applyToResult: akka.japi.function.Function2[Value,Throwable,EmailActor.Command])Unit.

Any ideas on how to resolve this issue? It's resulting from this code snippet.

            Answered 2021-Mar-05 at 10:58

You are most likely referencing akka.actor.typed.javadsl.ActorContext and not akka.actor.typed.scaladsl.ActorContext as you expect. Check your imports

            Answered 2021-Feb-28 at 13:57

I think your main class have some dependencies on the jar mentioned in the pom.xml. You're simply creating a target jar which doesn't have those dependencies included. You need to create the uber/fat jar which include all the relevant dependencies. You can use this following plugin maven-assembly-plugin for creating the target jar.

Assumption: Main.java class is under package owmapi.

Flink Fencing Errors in K8 HA mode
            Asked 2021-Feb-16 at 16:12

I am using Flink 1.12 and trying to keep job manager in HA over Kubernetes cluster (AKS). I am running 2 job manager and 2 task manager pods.

The problem that I am facing is that the task managers are not able to find the jobmanager leader.

The reason being they are trying to hit the K8 "Service" for jobmanager (which is a clusterIP Service) instead of hitting the pod IP of the leader. Hence sometimes the jobmanager Service will resolve the registration call to the standby jobmanager which makes TaskManger to not be able to find the jobmanager leader.

Here are the contents of the jobmanager-leader file

            Answered 2021-Feb-16 at 16:12

The problem is that you want to give your JobManager pods unique addresses when using standby JobManagers. Hence, you must not configure a service which the components use to communicate with each other. Instead you should start your JobManager pods with the pod IP as its jobmanager.rpc.address.

In order to start each JobManager pod with its IP you must not configure a ConfigMap which contains the Flink configuration, because it would be the same configuration for every JobManager pod. Instead you need to add the following snippet to your JobManager deployment:

Failed to deserialize Avro record - Apache flink SQL CLI

I'm publishing avro serialized data to kafka topic and then trying to create Flink table from the topic via SQL CLI interface. I'm able to create the topic but not able to view the topic data after executing SQL SELECT statement. Howver, I'm able to deserialize and print the published data using Simple kafka consumer. Getting this error on the SQL CLI:

            Answered 2021-Feb-07 at 23:06

using confluent kafka python API for sending message

Then you must use Flink's Confluent Avro deserializer

Your error is because you're trying to consume plain Avro, which requires the schema to be part of the message (it can't find it, so throws array out of bounds)
