what the best way to upload larger files to s3 with nodejs aws-sdk? MultipartUpload vs ManagedUpload vs getSignedURL, etc
            Asked 2021-Apr-26 at 13:20

Im trying to look over the ways AWS has to offer in order to upload files to s3. When I looked into their docs it confused the hell of out me. Looking up to the various resources I came to know a bit more resources like s3.upload vs s3.putObject and others realised there are physical limitations in API gateway and using lambda function to upload a file.

Particularly in case of uploading large file like 1-100 GB AWS suggests multiple methods to upload file to s3. Amongst them are createMultipartUpload, ManagedUpload, getSignedURL and tons of other.

So my Question is: What is the best and the easiest way to upload large files to s3 where I also can cancel the upload process. The multipart upload seems to tedious.

Use Streams to upload to S3, this way the Node.JS server doesn't take too much of the resources.

How to use API generated values in entity virtual fields in CakePHP?
            Asked 2021-Apr-18 at 12:35

Note: I am working through installing an AWS PHP SDK api connection in this question, although my question is entirely about CakePHP structure. Any of the AWS terminology I am using should be pretty simple and is only there to demonstrate the issue with Cake I am running into, if your not familiar with AWS.

I am currently writing some new tables / entities for a CakePHP application I maintain, called Files. They represent images stored on a bucket in Amazon S3. Files contains a value called 'Key' which is more or less the filename of the file represented by the my entity in Cake, matching the filename on S3. The entity looks like this:

I would not perform an active lookup in a virtual field. I think it's more conventional to only use it for simple things, with data already present.

I think a model (or table-like object) is a more suitable location for code like this.
You might find this question useful for this point: Cakephp 3 - How to integrate external sources in table?

You can make your own finders (neatly tucked inside Behaviors to group your logic) that combine your AWS data with your database data in this order:

            1. Collect database data, produce an array of lookup keys
            2. Use the array of keys to perform a single remote lookup
            3. Combine the remote data with database data.

How to test if S3 object does not exist AWS PHP SDK (Version 3)?
            Asked 2021-Apr-14 at 21:23

I have written an integration for the AWS SDK in PHP to send the keys for files on an S3 bucket and retrieve a pre-signed url, which more or less follows this example. This worked perfectly except I need to now check if the file exists on s3 and return empty string if it does not.

I am doing this with my code below:

            ANSWER

            Answered 2021-Apr-14 at 18:47

You need the s3:GetObject permission to invoke the HeadObject API, which is what the PHP SDK invokes when your code calls doesObjectExist().

If the object you request does not exist, the error Amazon S3 returns depends on whether you also have the s3:ListBucket permission.

            • If you have the s3:ListBucket permission on the bucket, Amazon S3 returns an HTTP status code 404 ("no such key") error.
            • If you don’t have the s3:ListBucket permission, Amazon S3 returns an HTTP status code 403 ("access denied") error.

So, you probably have s3:ListBucket but not s3:GetObject.

python AWS boto3 create presigned url for file upload

I'm writing a django backend for an application in which the client will upload a video file to s3. I want to use presigned urls, so the django server will sign a url and pass it back to the client, who will then upload their video to s3. The problem is, the generate_presigned_url method does not seem to know about the s3 client upload_file method...

Following this example, I use the following code to generate the url for upload:

            Answered 2020-Apr-28 at 20:09

You should be able to use the put_object method here. It is a pure client object, rather than a meta client object like upload_file. That is the reason that upload_file is not appearing in client._PY_TO_OP_NAME. The two functions do take different inputs, which may necessitate a slight refactor in your code.

You can use a similar approach in boto3 with botocore events. The events of interest are "provide-client-params.s3.GetObject" and "before-sign.s3.GetObject". The provide-client-params handler can modify API parameters and context, and before-sign receives among other things the AWSRequest to sign, so we can inject parameters to the URL.

In the url, the name of the file is exactly the same as the name of the file I select in postman. When running the request, I get an error:

Alright for whoever comes to that issue, here is how I fixed it. In our app logic we now pre signed the url with a given content type of type application/octet-stream (I don't think it does really matter, what matters is to overwrites the "text/plain" that is automatically added by the postman desktop app ) and we send the specified content-type with the postman request.

AWS presigned url for assests in S3 bucket
            Asked 2017-Feb-17 at 07:36

We upload contents to S3 private bucket. After uploading contents we access them through presigned url. MP4, images are working fine when we access that url through the browser. But when we try to access SWFs and PDFs, browser prompts to download content. And also it won't happen when we try to access assets from public bucket.

Is it default behavior or is there any solution for that?

            Answered 2017-Feb-16 at 04:09

When uploading the file, S3 Client will try to determine the correct content type if one hasn't been set . If no content type is provided and cannot be determined by the filename, the default content type, "application/octet-stream", will be used, thus the browser promts you to download the file.
