QUESTION
Is it somehow possible in FFmpeg to blur areas of a video based on their colour value?
For example, all pixels of a video considered "green" should get a box blur
Alternatively, I could also think of blurring the entire video but the blurring strength of each pixel/area should depend on the amount of "green"

The video is split into two copies. In one copy, the entire picture is blurred. In the other copy, the chromakey filter is used to make the areas with the desired pixel color transparent. Then this copy is overlaid on the blurred copy. Where there's transparency on the keyed copy, the blurred portion will show through from underneath.

I'm trying to implement a gaussian-like blurring of a 3D volume in pytorch. I can do a 2D blur of a 2D image by convolving with a 2D gaussian kernel easy enough, and the same approach seems to work for 3D with a 3D gaussian kernel. However, it is very slow in 3D (especially with larger sigmas/kernel sizes). I understand this can also be done instead by convolving 3 times with the 2D kernel which should be much faster, but I can't get this to work. My test case is below.

Answered 2021-May-21 at 16:13You theoreticaly can compute the 3d-gaussian convolution using three 2d-convolutions, but that would mean you have to reduce the size of the 2d-kernel, as you're effectively convolving in each direction twice.
But computationally more efficient (and what you usually want) is a separation into 1d-kernels. I changed the second part of your function to implement this. (And I must say I really liked your permutation-based appraoch!) Since you're using a 3d volume you can't really use the conv2d
or conv1d
functions well, so the best thing is really just using conv3d
even if you're just computing 1d-convolutions.
Note that allclose
uses a threshold of 1e-8
which we do not reach with this method, probably due to cancellation errors.

argument sets the number of convolutional filters in that layer. These filters are initialized to small, random values, using the method specified by the kernel_initializer
argument. During network training, the filters are updated in a way that minimizes the loss. So over the course of training, the filters will learn to detect certain features, like edges and textures, and they might become something like the image below (from here).
It is very important to realize that one does not hand-craft filters. These are learned automatically during training -- that's the beauty of deep learning.

I already have code that can detect the brightest point in an image (just gaussian blurring + finding the brightest pixel). I am working with photographs of sunsets, and right now can very easily get results like this:
My issue is that the radius of the circle is tied to how much gaussian blur i use - I would like to make it so that the radius reflects the size of the sun in the photo (I have a dataset of ~500 sunset photos I am trying to process).

I don't even know where to start on this, my traditional computer vision knowledge is lacking.. If I don't get an answer I might try and do something like calculate the distance from the center of the circle to the nearest edge (using canny edge detection) - if there is a better way please let me know. Answered 2021-Mar-10 at 19:32Use Canny edge first. Then try either Hough circle or Hough ellipse on the edge image. These are brute force methods, so they will be slow, but they are resistant to non-circular or non-elliptical contours. You can easily filter results such that the detected result has a center near the brightest point. Also, knowing the estimated size of the sun will help with computation speed.
You can also look into using cv2.findContours
and cv2.approxPolyDP
to extract continuous contours from your images. You could filter by perimeter length and shape and then run a least squares fit, or Hough fit.
EDIT
It may be worth trying an intensity filter before the Canny edge detection. I suspect it will clean up the edge image considerably.

You can also use any IDE and you can run and debug the blurring component as you would do with any other Java program.
