Your code actually works, what you missed is to add a toString() method to your Document class.

Deserializing objects in Avro with Map field returns values with wrong class
            Asked 2020-Jan-04 at 15:40

Trying to serialize objects that contain a Map instance in Apache Avro and the string keys of the Map are being deserialized but values are deserialized as class Object.

Able to use a GenericDatumWriter with a GenericData.Record instance with the properties copied into it but need to serialize the objects directly without having to copy the Map properties into a temporary object just to serialize it.

Importing data as Avro fails with Sqoop 1.4.7 and Hadoop 2.7.3
            Asked 2019-Feb-12 at 01:10

I am dealing with issue where I am trying to import vast amount of data from on-premise PostgreSQL slave-replica to Google Cloud Storage in Avro-format using Apache Sqoop.

Importing data with default formats work just fine, but my datapipeline would require importing data into Avro format, however this keeps failing due to reason that has been reported many times in past, as an example:

I have tried to use argument -Dmapreduce.job.user.classpath.first=true as instructed in aforementioned questions, but the error is still:

            java.lang.Exception: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: org.apache.avro.reflect.ReflectData.addLogicalTypeConversion(Lorg/apache/avro/Conversion;)V

This method seems to be added on Avro v.1.8.0, but some dependencies are using older version of Avro where this is not available.

My environment has following versions of these tools:

            • Hadoop 2.7.3.2.6.3.0-235
            • Sqoop 1.4.7
            • javac 1.8.0_191
            • sqoop/lib/parquet-avro-1.6.0.jar
            • sqoop/lib/avro-1.8.1.jar
            • sqoop/lib/avro-mapred-1.8.1-hadoop2.jar

Has anyone still faced this same issue and adding -Dmapreduce.job.user.classpath.first=true to sqoop import doesn't solve the issue?

Not clear why you are trying to bypass the KafkaAvroSerializer class's default behavior. (In your case, remove Schema.Parser from that example, and use your Reflect record type rather than GenericRecord)

You can put your concrete class as the second type of the producer and as long as it implements the base Avro classes, it should be serialized correctly (meaning ID computed correctly, not some number you create, and converted to bytes), registered to the registry, then sent to Kafka

Most importantly, the schema ID is not necessarily a 1 in the registry, and by putting that, the console consumer might be trying to deserialize your messages incorrectly, resulting in the wrong output

            In other words, try

A problem is that you are trying to use a bean kafkaStreams in your class DataController, but there is no bean with this name in Spring context. You need to create it manually, so you can autowire it later.

In your case I would suggest to update PipelineRunner.java like this:

The Avro serializer or more specifically the SpecificData requires the target type to have a default constructor (constructor with no arguments). Otherwise Avro cannot instantiate an object of the target type.

Try to add a default constructor via

            Generic Avro Serde using shapeless-datatype
            Asked 2018-May-25 at 17:53

I'm struggling creating a generic AvroSerde in Scala. I will be using this serde in combination with Flink therefore this serde should also be serializable itself. Avro doesn't have any native support for Scala, however there are some libraries which enable conversion from case classes to generic records using shapeless. Note: this generic serializer will only be instantiated with case classes.

Firstly, I tried to implement this serde using Avro4s. I got this compiled pretty easily by ensuring that the generic type was context bound to FromRecord and RecordFrom, however both FromRecord and RecordFrom aren't serializable therefore I can't use this serde in Flink.

Currently, I'm trying a different library shapeless-datatype which also uses shapeless. My current code looks like this:

You should make Serializer a type class. (By the way, using vars without necessity is a bad practice.)

I solved this myself, you need to use a DataFileWriter as this contains an entry in the create() method that writes the schema

Solution is to use this in conjunction with a ByteArrayOutputStream:
