Connect PySpark to Kafka from Docker container
            Asked 2021-Mar-21 at 09:38

I have a Kafka cluster that I'm managing with Docker.

I have a container where I'm running the broker and another one where I run the pyspark program which is supposed to connect to the kafka topic inside the broker container.

If I run the pyspark script in my local laptop everything runs perfectly but if I try to run the same code from inside the pyspark container I get the following error:

There are several problems in your setup:

            • You don't add the package for Kafka support as described in docs. It's either needs to be added when starting pyspark, or when initializing session, something like this (change 3.0.1 to version that is used in your jupyter container):

            Thanks all.

I was using an older Kafka version.

I upgraded Kafka in the cluster from kafka_2.12-1.1.0 to the latest stable version kafka_2.12-2.7.0. I also upgraded zookeeper from zookeeper-3.4.6 to apache-zookeeper-3.6.2-bin version.

In addition in the run file I added the following:

How can I implement a debezium connector (Oracle) through docker-compose?
            Asked 2021-Jan-13 at 20:41

I'm currently trying to implement a debezium connector. I've used JDBC connector as introduction but I need log-based CDC. I'm using a docker-compose.yml file to establish all configuration and the database is based on Oracle.

I'm stuck because I'm getting this error "ERROR io.confluent.admin.utils.ClusterStatus - Expected 1 brokers but found only 0. Brokers found []."

            Here is my docker-compose file:

Is there a simpler way to build this docker-compose?

            Can't import ZKStringSerializer$
            Asked 2021-Jan-04 at 17:51

I want to create kafka topic in Java. I have a sample code from stackoverflow. But the problem is that I couldn't import ZKStringSerializer$ and ZkUtils. I have all maven dependencies. What is the reason? Her is the code:

            Answered 2021-Jan-04 at 17:51

I assume you copied from this post? If so, read the very top of that accepted answer.

Zookeeper is a deprecated method to create topics.

Use AdminClient.createTopics or a higher-level framework like dropwizard-kafka configuration or spring-kafka's @Bean to create topics

Also, use kafka-clients dependency, not the kafka_[scala.version] depdendency

            How do I configure kafka-connect w/ "securityMechanism=9, encryptionAlgorithm=2" for a db2 database connection in my docker-compose file?
            Asked 2020-Dec-15 at 20:58

How do I configure "securityMechanism=9, encryptionAlgorithm=2" for a db2 database connection in my docker-compose file?

NOTE: When running my local kafka installation (kafka_2.13-2.6.0) to connect to a db2 database on the network, I only had to modify the bin/connect-standalone.sh file by modifying the existing "EXTRA_ARGS=" line like this:

Inputing data in a Kakfa Topic from XML with FilePulse - ExplodeFilter
            Asked 2020-Oct-26 at 11:37

I'm creating a kakfa topic which comes from an xml and writes to the topic in avro format. I'm using the file pulse to do this, and in the documentation I saw the ExplodeFilter. I tried to configure according to the documentation, but it is not working. The connect docker console is giving the following error:

            Answered 2020-Oct-26 at 11:37

The error was due to the ExplodeFilter that did not support dot notation for selecting field. Now, this issue is fixed since Connect FilePulse v1.5.2

what is the best practice to remove the use and which package should I use instead

You now need to use the Admin API createTopics() method to create topics:

Not able to locate ojdbc jar in kafka-connect
            Asked 2020-Jun-09 at 03:45

I am working on to create pipeline to stream data from oracle database. I am using below compose file to UP the required services for Kafka and using command option to download the ojdbc jar. I have explicitly checked the curl command used in this compose file and I am able to download jar and this should work fine here also.

I am able to UP the stacks of all required services without any issue. But, when I am navigating to kafka-connect-jdbc folder to look for ojdbc jar, I couldn't see there. Ideally, it should be downloaded and placed in the kafka-connect-jdbc jar.

            docker-compose.yml file:

            Answered 2020-Jun-09 at 03:45

I suggest that you download the JAR outside of Docker, then volume mount it. That way, your container isn't always trying to redownload when you restart it.

            Kafka-connect logs in docker container
            Asked 2020-May-22 at 02:40

I have a kafka connect jar which needs to be run as a docker container. I need to capture all my connect logs on a log file in the container (preferably at a directory/file - /etc/kafka/kafka-connect-logs) which can later be pushed to localhost (on which docker engine is running) using volumes in docker. When I change my connect-log4j.properties to append into a log file, I see that no log file is created. If I try the same without docker and run the kafka connect on a local linux VM by changing connect-log4j.properties to write logs to a log file, it works perfectly but not from docker. Any suggestions will be very helpful.

            Answered 2017-Sep-28 at 08:12

            Result of the discussion:

Declare the volume right away in the dockerfile and configure your logging configuration to place the log output directly to the volume. On docker run (or however you start your container) mount the volume and you should be fine.

Configure Kafka Connect distributed connector log (connectDistributed.out)
            Asked 2020-Apr-10 at 19:40

Currently two types of Kafka Connect log are being collected.

            • connect-rest.log.2018-07-01-21, connect-rest.log.2018-07-01-22 ...
            • connectDistributed.out

The thing is that I don't know how to configure connectDistributed.out file in Kafka Connect. Following is the sample output of the file:

            Install zkclient

You can download it from GitHub.
You can use zkclient like any standard Java library. Please include the the jar files in your classpath. You can also use any IDE and you can run and debug the zkclient component as you would do with any other Java program. Best practice is to use a build tool that supports dependency management such as Maven or Gradle. For Maven installation, please refer maven.apache.org. For Gradle installation, please refer gradle.org .
