Unable to create directory in /usr/share
            Asked 2020-Dec-02 at 13:05

I have heard its a conventional practice to store program dependent files in /usr/share/application-folder in linux. So I'm trying to do it in my c program in a function called load_interface_files() for example. I am not sure if this is a good practice or not, I've heard about creating configuration files for this kind of issues.

Anyways, here's the the code I wrote to make a directory in /usr/share.

use ls -ld /usr/share to see what the permissions on the directory are (without -d, you get the contents and their permissions).

Gender showing for table and Font Color based on age for Table
            Asked 2020-Mar-25 at 09:53

I need my table to list out the genders of the heroes as "M" or "F" in the table based on the gender of the heroes whether its male or female. So if its Male it will only show out as "M". Furthermore, I need the fonts to be of specific color based on the ages. For example, if 0 < age <= 20 font color #000000(black). if 20 < age <= 50 = font color #85929E

I don't know how to Bind the hero.gender data to the table to show M or F & and bind the font colors to the age.

Sockets: Android to Unity, possible allocation attack?
            Asked 2019-May-22 at 16:57

I have a client app on Android using Java, and a server on my laptop in a Unity game. Both are on same network, and I got them to connect. When I send a small string message from client to server, though, the server blocks it with this warning: ReadMessageBlocking: possible allocation attack with a header of 1298494342 bytes. How should I even begin approaching this roadblock?

For server, I'm using Unity's Mirror library, that is built on top of the Telepathy framework. For client, I followed the client part of this tutorial.

This (from Telepathy) contains the relevant method (ReadMessageBlocking) that throws this warning. I tried setting the MaxMessageSize to int.MaxValue (which comes to 2 GB) to at least accept the message so I could inspect it by printing its contents, but no avail.

I don't have a problem with ReadMessageBlocking, it's there for good reason. My concern is: Why in the world is my android, allegedly, sending a 1 GB header with the string? What can I do about it?

Edit: This is the relevant function that sends message from client (as given in the tutorial mentioned earlier.)

You're sending your packet with an incorrect header saying your packet is very large in the header, which the server then detects cause it wants to prevent overload from multiple packets with sent headers saying it is much larger than it is in reality.

Let the header be an appropiate size

I tried setting the MaxMessageSize to int.MaxValue

How to fix FileInputStream only looking at last entry?
            Asked 2018-Dec-27 at 05:39

I'm trying to make a simple version of a card game my game group enjoys so that our physically disabled friend can participate in game nights. However, I'm having trouble with FileInputStream seeming to only read the last line of the text file when I attempt to add the card data values to an ArrayList via a text file using while(inputStream.hasNextLine()).

I am attempting to print the values as Strings defined in my cardToString() method in the Card class. The code currently prints the last card in the file,
ID: 71 Card: 72 Stack: Door Type: Power Name: Power Absorption Power: Rank 3 Text: You may discard a card to try to steal a Power carried by another player. Roll the die; 4 or higher succeeds. Otherwise, you get caught and lose a Level. Bonus: 3,
using the cardToString() method, for all 72 cards. The first item should have a name of "Gradydon Creed", and the last output should have a name of "Power Absorption"

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

            That's a nice project.

Your problem is that you're misusing the static keyword. Basically, you're making each value a property of the Card class instead of individual Card instances. Here's a good explanation of how it works.

Also, Java has built-in functionality for representing objects as strings, the toString() method. If you use that in place of Card.cardToString() it will make your life easier.

Here's an basic example of a Card and Deck to point you in the right direction.

I'm trying to make a simple version of a card game my game group enjoys so that our physically disabled friend can participate in game nights. I am attempting to print the values as Strings defined in my cardToString() method in the Card class. The code currently prints the caught exception, followed by the default case in the cardToString() method, with various errors occurring at random Card instances. More efficient way to create descriptions for listview components?

I have a listview with over 400 components and I am wondering if there is an easier way to create descriptions for each individual element without having to create other classes. The only way I can think to make this process easier is to use webviews but I've looked around and people have already said on here it wouldn't work out very well.

There are a couple of potential answers.

I know you don't want to hear it - but in this case another class is really going to be your best friend, because you have a List which can be simply changed from type String to type Spell (which will take your description). But bear in mind, that only requires one Class, not a Class per element, so it's not much work!

The problem is not Flatpak. It is a conflict between Flatpak and fuse. For some reason this was not occuring with valac or meson from the command line, only Flatpak.

How can I access gnome-contacts or its data from gjs
            Asked 2017-Jul-23 at 03:51

According to this answer (and comments) gnome-contacts is where contacts are centralized for Gnome and it does a good job of aggregating via telepathy, but the only way to access that information seems to be the Gnome Shell search provider which only provides an avatar and a name. I've been struggling to duplicate portions of gnome-contacts in gjs but having tons of trouble with the bindings.

Is there an easier way to achieve this, or is it possible for me to generate vapi/gir binding for gnome-contacts itself so I can use it like a library?

            Possible Alternate Solution:

Using libfolks in GJS is currently blocked by Bug #694115, but for those only needing Google Contacts it is possible in GJS via GData and you can even use Gnome Online Accounts as an authentication source, if available.

            ANSWER

            Answered 2017-Jun-16 at 09:09

Use libfolks, which is what gnome-contacts uses internally to source its data. libfolks should be usable via gjs, although this has not been extensively tested, so there might be binding issues.

Please report any binding issues here.
