Element disappearing before it is supposed to
            Asked 2021-Jun-16 at 02:50

Recently I've been coding a clicker game and now have run into a problem with the onclick function. What I'm trying to do is on the first click, have it change into certain text, and on the second and third clicks change it to a different text. However, on the fourth click, I'd like it to disappear.

However, it disappears on the third click instead of the fourth click. The third click is supposed to show more text, and then call a function and vamoose. It just disappears. Here is my code:

I'm going to rewrite your code because it seems to be missing something.

In this code, I'm using a single event handler. Then using a counter and switch statement to determine the current click count.

Convert your dates with to_datetime then subtract from today's normalized date (so that we remove the time part) and get the number of days. Then use pd.cut to group them appropriately.

Anything in the future gets labeled with NaN.

maven multi-module project with two versions of protobuf
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 21:40

We have a multi-module maven project. One of the modules has a bunch of .proto files, which we compile to java files. Pretty much every other module depends on this module. Most of them use Protobuf 2.4, but one needs to use 2.5.

Is there any nice way to do this? (The not nice way is to edit the pom file to say "2.5", build a jar, manually copy that jar to wherever we need it, and then change the pom file back to 2.4.)

            ANSWER

            Answered 2021-Jun-08 at 13:59

Never used protobuf, but, as I understand it's a plugin that generate stuff.

So I'm gonna give you generic pointer hoping it will help. I think you should either try to make 2 jar with different classifier from a single module, see https://maven.apache.org/plugins/maven-jar-plugin/examples/attached-jar.html For example classifier proto2.4 and proto2.5 then you can add the classifier when you define the dependency to that module.

Other option I see is having 2 modules, the real one, you have now, and another one for 2.5 Generate a zip from the main one and the second module would be empty but have a dependency on the generated zip, unzip it and then compile with the plugin config for 2.5 Slower at execution, a bit dirtier imho, but can be needed if for example you need more customization than just the version.

How to get rid of vertical hover gaps in a wrapped anchor tag?
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 20:57

When I hover over the anchor tag, it flickers. It's because there are vertical gaps between the lines of the wrapped anchor tag. Moreover, if I happen to click between the lines, the link doesn't activate. I would like to get rid of this flickering and vertical hover gaps that cause it. The rest of the layout including apparent line height and button position (on the same line as the last word of the anchor tag) should stay the same.

I was thinking about this for a couple of days with no luck. The best alternative I have is using inline-block on the anchor tag, but that clears the button to the next line, which wastes too much space.

Can I free mallocs that are being generated in every step of a recursion in C?
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 20:53

I am making a simulation with C (for perfomance) that (currently) uses recursion and mallocs (generated in every step of the recursion). The problem is that I am not being able to free the mallocs anywhere in the code, without having the wrong final output. The code consist of two functions and the main function:

            ANSWER

            Answered 2021-Jun-13 at 04:47

You're supposed to free memory right after the last time it will be used. In your program, after the while loop in recursion, Energy isn't used again, so you should free it right after that (i.e., right before return event_counter;).

Beautfiul Soup HTML parsing returning empty list when scraping YouTube
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 20:43

I'm trying to use BS4 to parse through the HTML for an about page on a youtube channel so I can scrape the number of channel views. Below is the code to scrape the channel views (located in the 'yt-formatted-string') and also the whole right column of the page. Both lines of code return either an empty list and a "None" value for the findAll() and find() functions, respectively.

I read another thread saying I may be receiving an empty list or "None" value because the page is accessing an API to get the total channel views to count and the values aren't actually in the HTML I'm parsing.

I know I could access much of this info through the Youtube API, but I want to iterate this code over multiple channels that are not my own. Moreover, I want to understand how to use BS4 to its full extent so I can replicate this process on an Instagram page or Facebook page.

Should I be using a different library that isn't BS4? Is what I'm looking to accomplish even possible?

YouTube is loaded dynamically, therefore urlib won't support it. However, the data is available in JSON format on the website. You can convert this data to a Python dictionary (dict) using the built-in json library.

This example is using the URL you have provided: https://www.youtube.com/c/Rozziofficial/about, you can change the channel name, it will work for all channels.

Here's an example using requests, you can use urlib instead:

How would you set up a database to handle comments for a blogging site?
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 19:59

I'm a student learning about database design and currently learning about the relationships of - one-to-one, one-to-many, many-to-many. I understand the concept well enough, but feel like I'm lacking experience/information on how it would be implemented in a real production scenario.

            My question is this

If I have a blog website with a Blog Post as an entity and comments for each blog post, how would you handle the comments in the database?`

Would you use a one-to-many relationship and just store all the comments in a single table. Then link those comments to each blog post and user who created it?

What if each comment had a sub-comment? Would you create a separate table for sub-comments and link it to a single comment? Would that cause too much overhead and confusion within the DB itself?

I get the concepts and all, but don't understand best practices for handling what seems like basic stuff.

            Thanks in advance!

            Answered 2021-Jun-15 at 16:06

The simplest solution is to stick with a one-to-many relationship. Use one table and store one comment per row, with references to the post and the comment author, and a timestamp so you can sort the comments chronologically.

You seem uncertain about whether you need a "threaded comment" hierarchy. This is more complex, so if you don't need it, don't bother.

If you do need to show comment threads, then you should learn about running recursive queries in MySQL 8.0: https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/8.0/en/with.html#common-table-expressions-recursive

You still only need one table. Don't create a second table for sub-comments. Just store comments like in your one-to-many example, but each comment may link to its "parent" comment when it is a reply.

Another solution that many sites use is to skip implementing their own comment system, and just embed a comment service like Disqus. That's likely to be much more reliable and safe than yours. But if you're doing this as a learning exercise, that's worthwhile too.

You don't need it. It is enough to inject HttpClient into your class by constructor:
