D3 Pie Chart Not Returning Correct Data
            Asked 2022-Mar-14 at 11:47

I've been working on a pie (donut) chart that compiles the 15 largest GDPs of 2021. It basically works fine in all but one way. I can't seem to get the correct country to appear when hovered over. Every piece of the chart returns Mexico. I know there is probably a less amateur and more efficient way than the 'if/else if' approach I've taken. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can view it here for reference. It's not in English but the code is understandable.

Note: the final 'else' statement returns Mexico which is why they all return Mexico.

            The code in question is:

Instead of generating the pie values with only the GDP values, use the whole DATASET object. That way the data generated by d3.pie() will have your original data inside .data, and each item is bound to the corresponding path so you can access that on mouseover, making it easy to use that data to show it in the tooltip and central text.

How can I reuse a component with different props in React?
            Asked 2021-Nov-25 at 07:23

I have a parent component where I need to reuse a child component called Chart several times but with different props, but what happens is that the first component is the only one that is modified and also by the props of the last Chart component.

I understand that the center number is modified by the return of the component, but how can I do the logic inside the useEffect? I am new to React if someone could help me, thanks.

The problem you're running into likely has to do with the fact that you're trying to use the component to modify a DOM node (document.querySelector(".circle")) directly, especially since document.querySelector(".circle") will return the first element it finds. Instead your component itself should render that node and apply whatever styles you need to it based on the props. You probably don't need the useEffect hook at all...

The problem was simply because I'm using a querySelector which only returns the first element with matching selector.

Solution to this problem is to change from querySelector to getElementsByClassName and then loop through the length of elements with the matching class, and there apply the other class to the elements.

How to add a tooltip to a pie chart?
            Asked 2021-Jul-05 at 17:13

I have implemented a react and d3 pie chart (https://observablehq.com/@stians/react-donut-chart-2), which I would like to add a div-based tooltip to with an absolute position and left and top px offset. What I am struggling with is to find the correct calculation for correctly positioning of the div within the center of a hovered path item. I do believe that arc.centroid(arcData) in the DonutChart component gives me the center line for the arc, but that is all coordinates within the svg.

Since the div would be outside of the svg, I would need to add positioning relative to the view port. I have attempted that by adding a useRef in the DonutContainer, and adding the ref to the figure (and then to use the ref.current.getBoundingClientRect()). This gives me access to values such as x,y, width, height of the figure tag. Could someone help me find the correct function for calculating left and top values for my tooltip which should be positioned in the center of the arc that is selected?

I've done this recently, you just need a little algebra to get it. Basically, because you get the centroid based on the svg ViewBox, you need to map that into the containind element. I've adapted what I did as it was slightly different, but the following function should help:

How to generate 3D chart with doughnut hole in Charts Service using Google Apps Script?
            Asked 2021-Feb-04 at 13:06

When one creates a chart in Google Sheets, one may, via the dialogs, create a 3D pie chart with a doughnut hole. If you try to do that with Charts Service it doesn't work and the documentation is quite straight forward on that score:

You can't combine the pieHole and is3D options; if you do, pieHole will be ignored.

I believe your goal as follows.

            • You want to create 3D pie chart using Google Apps Script.
            Issue and workaround:

Unfortunately, in the current stage, it seems that it cannot be achieved with Spreadsheet service using SpreadsheetApp. In order to create the 3D chart using Google Apps Script, it is required to use Sheets API.

In this answer, I would like to propose to use Sheets API as a workaround. Fortunately, I think that your JSON object in your question can be used for creating the 3D pie chart.

            Sample script:

Before you use this script, please enable Sheets API at Advanced Google services. And, please set the sheet name for your situation. In this script, I used your JSON object in your question by adding a property of position.

I would recommend getting the raw counts from your data store and then figure the percentages either in the app tier or allow your chart component to determine the percentages based on that raw value. Something like this should work:
