QUESTION
I'm following similar example as in this blog post:
https://rmoff.net/2019/11/12/running-dockerised-kafka-connect-worker-on-gcp/
Except that I'm not running kafka connect worker on GCP but locally.
Everything is fine I run the docker-compose up and kafka connect starts but when I try to create instance of source connector via CURL I get the following ambiguous message (Note: there is literally no log being outputed in the kafka connect logs):
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Jun-11 at 14:27I managed to get it to work, this is a correct configuration...
The message "Unable to connect to the server" was because I had wrongly deployed mongo instance so it's not related to kafka-connect or confluent cloud.
I'm going to leave this question as an example if somebody struggles with this in the future. It took me a while to figure out how to configure docker-compose for kafka-connect that connects to confluent cloud.
QUESTION
I have a requirement where I need to consume a kafka topic on Azure events hub. POST endpoint needs to be created which will consume a topic provided as an argument. The message has to be send on a pubsub topic with the kafka topic as attribute and the message content as body.
This is a high level requirement. I have looked here to understand how this can be achieved. However, if anyone has implemented this in real time that is events from Azure events hub to google cloud pub sub or have worked on similar implementation, please help.

Since your data's destination is BigQuery, you can use the Kafka to BigQuery template in Dataflow, you can use this template to load json messages from Kafka to BigQuery. In addition, according to the documentation,
How to use this Dataflow template Kafka to BigQuery This template creates a streaming pipeline that ingests JSON data from Kafka, executes an optional JavaScript user defined function (UDF), and writes the resulting records to BigQuery. Any errors during the transformation of the data, execution of the UDF, or writing into BigQuery will be written into a separate errors table in BigQuery. The errors table will be created if it does not exist.
Pipeline Requirements
The Kafka topic(s) exists and the message is encoded as a valid JSON.
The BigQuery output table exists.
The Kafka brokers are reachable from the Dataflow worker machines.
On the other hand, you can create your own template with your specific requirements using the KafkaIO method, you can check this tutorial to understand better how to start with.
QUESTION
Context: I followed this link on setting up AWS MSK and testing a producer and consumer and it is setup and working correctly. I am able to send and receive messages via 2 separate EC2 instances that both use the same Kafka cluster (My MSK cluster). Now, I would like to establish a data pipeline all the way from Eventhubs to AWS Firehose which follows the form:
Azure Eventhub -> Eventhub-to-Kafka Camel Connector -> AWS MSK -> Kafka-to-Kinesis-Firehose Camel Connector -> AWS Kinesis Firehose
I was able to successfully do this without the use of MSK (via regular old Kafka) but for unstated reasons need to use MSK now and I can't get it working.
Problem: When trying to start the connectors between AWS MSK and the two Camel connectors I am using, I get the following error:
These are the two connectors in question:
- AWS Kinesis Firehose to Kafka Connector (Kafka -> Consumer)
- Azure Eventhubs to Kafka Connector (Producer -> Kafka)
Goal: Get these connectors to work with the MSK, like they did without it, when they were working directly with Kafka.
Here is the issue for Firehose:
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-May-04 at 12:53MSK doesn't offer Kafka Connect as a service. You'll need to install this on your own computer, or on other AWS compute resources. From there, you need to install the Camel connector plugins
QUESTION
Using Kafka Connect (6.1.1
), I'm trying to use Sergey34/kafka-connect-transformers to adjust my Kafka messages before putting them into BigQuery (using BigQuerySink).
In my connector.properties
, I configure ScriptEngineTransformer
as follows (minimized example):
ANSWER
Answered 2021-Jun-09 at 12:21If you need to add a static field, Kafka comes with a built-in transform to do exactly that...
Regarding your issue, reading the code, it never tests or uses records that have schemas, and never builds a new Struct type
Therefore, I think your input is limited to primitive schema types such as string/integer/boolean
In other words, "Struct{a=111,b=222}" + "foo"
would "work fine" and you'd end up "Struct{a=111,b=222}foo"
but the string representation of the Avro record, "Struct{a=111,b=222}"
, has no Javascript property foo
, and so it can't be set
Your alternative/workaround would be to make sure that you're consuming with the standard JSONConverter, then using JSON.parse
to build an object that you can set JS properties into
QUESTION
I have a Flink Job which reads data from Kafka topics and writes it to HDFS. There are some problems with checkpoints, for example after stopping Flink Job some files stay in pending mode and other problems with checkpoints which write to HDFS too. I want to try Kafka Streams for the same type of pipeline Kafka to HDFS. I found the next problem - https://github.com/confluentinc/kafka-connect-hdfs/issues/365 Could you tell me please how to resolve it? Could you tell me where Kafka Streams keep files for recovery?
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Jun-03 at 01:27Kafka Streams only interacts between topics of the same cluster, not with external systems.
Kafka Connect HDFS2 connector maintains offsets in an internal offsets topic. Older versions of it maintained offsets in the filenames and used a write-ahead log to ensure file delivery
QUESTION
so I use kafka-connect-bigquery
connector
Is it possible to use regular expression in "topics"?
For example I have two topics:
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Jun-01 at 16:26You can whitelist Kafka topics based regex by replacing the topics
property with topics.regex
.
QUESTION
I am trying to send data from Kafka to Elasticsearch. I checked that my Kafka Broker is working because I can see the messages I produce to a topic is read by a Kafka Consumer. However, when I try to connect Kafka to Elasticsearch I get the following error.
Command:
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-May-29 at 13:09The Connect container starts Connect Distributed Server already. You should use HTTP and JSON properties to configure the Elastic connector rather than exec into the container shell and issue connect-standalone
commands which default to using a broker running in the container itself.
Similarly, the Elastic quickstart file expects Elasticsearch running within the Connect container, by default
QUESTION
I searched for a solution to have confluentic-kafka work with ingress, and I reached this PR that did such implementation, but this PR isn't accepted (yet - the repository owner dropped and the repo doesn't exist any more).
So, I tried to implement something very simple as a proof of concept using as a reference this manual.
Currently I have ingress enabled:
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-May-19 at 14:11It worked only when I started my minikube without a driver (to be created on the storage of the machine and not as a VM) and specifying the 9.x ingress network ip (to get it I ran: ip a
):
QUESTION
After configuring kafka connect using the official documentation...
I get an error that the driver does not exist inside the kafka connect!
I got to try copying the .jar
to the mentioned directory, but nothing happens.
Any suggestion for a solution?
docker compose
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-May-19 at 13:42The error is not saying your driver doesn't exist, it's saying the Connector doesn't. Scan over your error for each PluginDesc{klass=class
and you'll notice the connector.class
you're trying to use isn't there
The latest Kafka Connect images from Confluent include no connectors, outside of those pre-bundled with Kafka (and some ones from Control Center, which aren't really useful), so you must install others on your own - described here
If you want to follow the 5.0 documentation, use the appropriate tagged docker image rather than latest
(the old images do have the connectors installed)
Also, you would need to place the jdbc driver directly into the jdbc connector folder for it to properly be detected on the classpath; it is not a "plugin" in Connect terminology. The above link also shows an example of this
QUESTION
I have a kafka-topic and I would like to feed it with AVRO data (currently in JSON). I know the "proper" way to do it is to use schema-registry but for testing purposes I would like to make it work without it.
So I am sending AVRO data as Array[Byte]
as opposed to regular Json objects:
ANSWER
Answered 2021-May-13 at 12:39JsonConverter
will be unable to consume Avro encoded data since the binary format contains a schema ID from the registry that's needed to be extracted before the converter can determine what the data looks like
You'll want to use the registryless-avro-converter, which will create a Structured object, and then should be able to converted to a Parquet record.
