I've been attempting to create a node class which mimics a node on a graph. Currently, storage of the predecessor and successor nodes are stored via a node pointer vector: std::vector previous. The vectors for the predecessor/successor nodes are private variables and are accessible via setters/getters.

Currently, I am dealing with updating the pointer values when adding a new node. My current method to update the predecessor/successor nodes is through this method (the method is the same for successor/previous nodes, just name changes):

QtTest under PyQt5 fails when widgets-under-test have to be visible to work
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 17:01

I've started to create UI tests for my PyQt5 widgets using QtTest but have run into the following difficulties:

            • In order to speed up things, some of my widgets only perform operations when visible. As it seems that QtTest runs with invisible widgets, the corresponding tests fail.

            • For the same reason, I cannot test program logic that makes a subwidget visible under certain conditions.

Is there a way to make widgets visible during test? Is this good practice (e.g. w.r.t. CI test on GitHub) and is QtTest the way to go?

I have tried to use pytest with pytest-qt without success as I couldn't find a proper introduction or tutorial and I do know "Test PyQt GUIs with QTest and unittest".

Below you find a MWE consisting of a widget mwe_qt_widget.MyWidget with a combobox, a pushbutton and a label that gets updated by the other two subwidgets:

The problem is simple: QWidgets are hidden by default so isVisible() will return false, the solution is to invoke the show() method in init() to make it visible:

            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 14:37

So I was really ripping my hair out why two different sessions of R with the same data were producing wildly different times to complete the same task. After a lot of restarting R, cleaning out all my variables, and really running a clean R, I found the issue: the new data structure provided by vroom and readr is, for some reason, super sluggish on my script. Of course the easiest thing to solve this is to convert your data into a tibble as soon as you load it in. Or is there some other explanation, like poor coding praxis in my functions that can explain the sluggish behavior? Or, is this a bug with recent updates of these packages? If so and if someone is more experienced with reporting bugs to tidyverse, then here is a repex showing the behavior cause I feel that this is out of my ballpark.

This is the issue I had in mind. These problems have been known to happen with vroom, rather than with the spec_tbl_df class, which does not really do much.

vroom does all sorts of things to try and speed reading up; AFAIK mostly by lazy reading. That's how you get all those different components when comparing the two datasets.

            With vroom:

JSF - Validation error in 1 component, leads all others in the form to fail
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 14:11

Hey to all in the forum

I use JSF Mojarra implementation, version JSF 2.2

I need desperately a help on this.

            1. I have a snippet of my page.
            2. I have a custom component "example_result.xhtml" used in the page.
            3. I have my BackingBean.java Be aware please that this code is not the real code I made. If you run it, it will be very ugly maybe because I deleted all the css classes and I kept only the hot stuff I need to show you my problem.

            Everything is inside 1 form.

            The 5 "h:selectManyCheckbox" (in my code I have 8 or 9)

In the form I have 5 "h:selectManyCheckbox" which are using values in the "value" attribute for different cases (javaFrameworks2Values, javaFrameworks3Values,...), and the "f:selectItems" use arrays of "SelectItem" (javaFrameworksSelectItems2, javaFrameworksSelectItems3...) created for these different cases, just to make some examples for me to understand how all the selectOne and selectMany components work. The ideas for this, about different cases were taken from these links: "https://stackoverflow.com/tags/selectonemenu/info" and "https://mkyong.com/jsf2/jsf-2-checkboxes-example".

            After I have 2 commandButtons

1 for submit, and 1 for reset the values.

            Display the values

After I display the results of the values of the "h:selectManyCheckbox" via the "example_result.xhtml".

You can see the 4th "h:selectManyCheckbox" that is the only one different, because it has the attribute "required" with the attribute "requiredMessage". With it there is a "h:message" to display the validation error.

In the BackingBean (which is Spring Bean, but it works perfectly good - sorry I don't want ejbs 3.x), I have initialized:

            1. The values of the SelectItems and
            2. The values of the "value" attribute, where the values of the "h:selectManyCheckbox" will be stored to be displayed later. [The code is completely castrated, to make it readable snippet].

When the page is rendered, I select checkBoxes (e.g. the 2 last, because the 2 first are initials) from all the "h:selectManyCheckbox". When I say that select from all, I mean it. And from the 4th with the "required" attribute. I try in the buttons (see in the code) the "Effort 1", or "Effort 2", or "Effort 3" (in the "f:ajax" in the buttons) and the result outputs in the last part are displayed and updated like a candy. Without any problem. To achive this with the composite component I googled and tried a lot. But I made it.

Then it comes the time to try the 4th to see the validation error of the "required" attribute.

I select again from all as before, but not from all. NOT from the 4th "h:selectManyCheckbox" this time. I select nothing from the 4th "h:selectManyCheckbox" to ckeck the validator error message ("requiredMessage"). The result is: It displays the message of error (GOOD until now), BUT this time it does not update anything from the others "h:selectManyCheckbox" to the output results at the end, and it does not reset the values as well as it was doing before (when I selected from all and from the 4th as well).

I understand that it says: as long as in the form the 4th failed with validation error, all the other "h:selectManyCheckbox" will not update the output results (something like wanting to fail all the others too).

            But what really happes here?

            1. It does not give the values to the "h:selectManyCheckbox", to be updated to the output?
            2. It gives the vales to the "h:selectManyCheckbox" normally, BUT it just not updates the output?

The other efforts in the "f:ajax" in the buttons, are just efforts maybe to solve the problem but in these cases they don't even display the error message in the 4th case and of cource they don't update the other output results as well (again). But no message error as well.

I don't know if the problem is clear to you. I can explain in the discussion better so I can clarify the situation better. [To be honnet it took me 1 and half hour to write all this thing]

            Thanks a lot in advance

I will make 5 different forms with 5 set of buttons (submit/reset), to make escalate this problem, for 5 so much related components in the form.

But my question is open: Why this is happening, what rule in JSF in this case is taking place and makes this situation. Anyone, comes with an explanation:

            • Thomas: this is a rule in JSF, or
            • is a JSF bug, or
            • this happens in these cases, or... whatever...,

Recommended way of measuring execution time in Tensorflow Federated
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 13:49

I would like to know whether there is a recommended way of measuring execution time in Tensorflow Federated. To be more specific, if one would like to extract the execution time for each client in a certain round, e.g., for each client involved in a FedAvg round, saving the time stamp before the local training starts and the time stamp just before sending back the updates, what is the best (or just correct) strategy to do this? Furthermore, since the clients' code run in parallel, are such a time stamps untruthful (especially considering the hypothesis that different clients may be using differently sized models for local training)?

To be very practical, using tf.timestamp() at the beginning and at the end of @tf.function client_update(model, dataset, server_message, client_optimizer) -- this is probably a simplified signature -- and then subtracting such time stamps is appropriate?

I have the feeling that this is not the right way to do this given that clients run in parallel on the same machine.

Thanks to anyone can help me on that.

            ANSWER

            Answered 2021-Jun-15 at 12:01

There are multiple potential places to measure execution time, first might be defining very specifically what is the intended measurement.

            1. Measuring the training time of each client as proposed is a great way to get a sense of the variability among clients. This could help identify whether rounds frequently have stragglers. Using tf.timestamp() at the beginning and end of the client_update function seems reasonable. The question correctly notes that this happens in parallel, summing all of these times would be akin to CPU time.

            2. Measuring the time it takes to complete all client training in a round would generally be the maximum of the values above. This might not be true when simulating FL in TFF, as TFF maybe decided to run some number of clients sequentially due to system resources constraints. In practice all of these clients would run in parallel.

            3. Measuring the time it takes to complete a full round (the maximum time it takes to run a client, plus the time it takes for the server to update) could be done by moving the tf.timestamp calls to the outer training loop. This would be wrapping the call to trainer.next() in the snippet on https://www.tensorflow.org/federated. This would be most similar to elapsed real time (wall clock time).

            You have several issues here.

            1. The second selectInput depends on the first one, so you need to update it also to display the updated dataframe.
            2. It would be best to create a reactiveValues object as the dataframe to be updated.
            3. You need an observeEvent to update the second selectInput, whenever the first one is updated.

Lastly, dataframe is updated only when the actionButton on the second tab is clicked - to avoid updating dataframe while typing long text.
