There was a problem saving the text in EditText to a file
            Asked 2021-Jun-16 at 01:47

This code receives information from an acquaintance you want to register in editText, and then clicks finButton to save the information you receive as a file called friendlist.txt. However, the Toast message is outputted from the try-catch statement that is currently performed when finButton is pressed. Also, the checkpermission does not work, which is wrapped in a try~catch statement, but does not have output on the logcat.

            And manifest.

            uses-permission android:name="android.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE"

            uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE"

            is written.

Please let me know the solution. And this content is written with a translator, so the sentence can be strange.

when you press finButton, the logcat is shown below.

The code corresponding to the 116th line is this.

            FileOutputStream outstream = openFileOutput("friendList.txt", Activity.MODE_WORLD_WRITEABLE);

You're right, android:overScrollMode="never" is not disabling the over scroll effect. The respective issue created on the issue tracker: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/134912610

But you can try workaround, described in this answer.

Android Studio - can't create an object (recyclerview)
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 19:45

I'm following a tutorial about RecyclerView, but I can't write ct: the way he did. I typed in manually, but it does not work. I'm not sure how he typed it. He typed in this, then android studio writes ct: automatically. What do I need to type to do that?

MyAdapter is a class I created for RecyclerView. Here is the code for that class:

            ANSWER

            Answered 2021-Jun-15 at 19:45

The little lighter colored "ct" prompt is just a visual aid and it does not always show up. When you provide a raw value as an argument, it will show the prompt (like this, 1, or "foo"). When you provide a variable for the argument like ctx, foo, etc, it does not show up. This goes for all functions that take arguments.

The moral of the story is, it is not important and can be ignored.

let returns the result of last expression inside it, in this case the value of builder.create(), a non-nullable AlertDialog.

Since you use ?.let, if activity is null, let won't be called, and you will effectively have null ?: throw....

builder.create() never returns null, so this throw expression is only reached when activity is null, so the error message doesn't make sense.

Security concern of using Firebase ID tokens for authentication on my custom backend
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 15:02

I want to use firebase auth for my android and ios applications with custom backend. So I need some way of authentication for api calls from mobile apps to the backend.

I was able to find following guide in firebase documentation which suggests to sent firebase id token to my backend and validate it there with firebase Admin SDK. https://firebase.google.com/docs/auth/admin/verify-id-tokens

But this approach does not seem to be a security best practice. For example here https://auth0.com/blog/why-should-use-accesstokens-to-secure-an-api/ it is said that for API access one should use access tokens rather than id tokens.

Are there any good pattern for using firebase auth with my backend?

            firebaser here

Firebase itself passes the ID token with each request, and then uses that on the server to identify the user and to determine whether they're authorized to perform the operation. This is a common (I'd even say idiomatic) approach to authentication and authorization, and if there's a security risk that you've identified in it, we'd love to hear about it on https://www.google.com/about/appsecurity/

From reading the blog post it seems the author is making a distinction between authentication (the user proving their identify) and authorization (them getting access to certain resources based on that identity), but it'd probably be best to ask the author for more information on why that would preclude passing an ID token to identify the user.

Upgrade your dagger-hilt dependencies to the same version.

            Your project's root gradle file

            classpath "com.google.dagger:hilt-android-gradle-plugin:2.31.2-alpha"

            Your app level gradle file

            implementation "com.google.dagger:hilt-android:2.31.2-alpha"

How does Kotlin coroutines manage to schedule all coroutines on the main thread without block it?
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 14:51

I've been experimenting with the Kotlin coroutines in android. I used the following code trying to understand the behavior of it:

            ANSWER

            Answered 2021-Jun-15 at 14:51

This is exactly the reason why coroutines were invented and how they differ from threaded concurrency. Coroutines don't block, but suspend (well, they can do both). And "suspend" isn't just another name for "block". When they suspend (e.g. by invoking join()), they effectively free the thread that runs them, so it can do something else somewhere else. And yes, it sounds like something that is technically impossible, because we are in the middle of executing the code of some function and we have to wait there, but well... welcome to coroutines :-)

You can think of it as the function is being cut into two parts: before join() and after it. First part schedules the background operation and immediately returns. When background operation finishes, it schedules the second part on the main thread. This is not how coroutines works internally (functions aren't really cut, they create continuations), but this is how you can easily imagine them working if you are familiar with executors or event loops.

delay() is also a suspending function, so it frees the thread running it and schedules execution of the code below it after a specified duration.
