QUESTION
How do I disable the TeX stuff when reading Markdown in Pandoc? I have a number of markdown files I am processing, but it chokes on some of them with warnings due to the presence of text that is apparently markdown-esque syntax to use that.
...ANSWER
Answered 2019-Feb-26 at 17:09You can disable any extension with -EXTENSIONNAME
appended to the input format. So in your case, you presumably want to disable tex_math_dollars, therefore the format would be -f markdown-tex_math_dollars
, which reads "use format markdown minus/without the tex_math_dollars extension". The full command might look like this:

This application normally requires JavaScript to be enabled in the user’s browser to display the output rendered from the input code. When JavaScript is disabled in the user’s browser, the application displays a notice indicating that JavaScript needs to be enabled in the browser. It is possible to configure the application to display the output using PNG images when JavaScript is disabled. This is called a static preview. It is static because the user cannot see a live preview of the output as the input is typed. Instead, a preview button needs to be pressed whenever the user wants to see a preview of the post. This is an optional feature that is disabled by default and enabled if required. When static preview is enabled, the notice indicating that JavaScript needs to be enabled is no longer displayed when JavaScript is disabled in the browser. Instead a static preview of the post rendered as a PNG image is displayed in the output sheet. Note that when static preview is enabled, it makes no difference to the behaviour of the application when JavaScript is enabled in the user’s browser. Enabling this feature helps only those users who have JavaScript disabled in their browser.
