            repeat values of a column based on a condition
            Asked 2021-Jun-16 at 00:54

            I have a data frame including three columns named 'Altitude', 'Distance', 'Slope'. The column of 'Slope' is calculated using the two first columns 'Altitude', 'Distance'. @ the first step the purpose was to calculate 'Slope' using a condition explained below: A condition function was deployed to start from the top column of the "Distance" variable and add up (sum) values until the summation of them is greater or equal to 10 (>=10). If this condition corrects then calculate the "Slope" using the given formula: Slope=Average(Altitude)/(sum(Distance)). The summation of the 'Distance' was counting from the first value of that to the index that the 'Distance' has stopped there). The following code is for the above explanation (By Tim Roberts):

            The output looks oval because characters have not same width and height. Think of an image that its pixels are not square, but vertical rectangles. I borrowed the c# version of the code linked by @Prasanth Rajendran, and made some modifications:

            1. added lineWidth argument
            2. added xScale argument, now every 1/xScale characters in a row are equivalent to 1 data points
            3. moved character position to its center, by adding a [0.5, 0.5] offset

            speed up loop in matlab
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 11:25

            I'm very new in MATLAB (this is my first script). I wonder how may I speed up this loop, I don't know any toolbox or 'tricks' as I'm a newbie on it. I tried to code it with instinct, it works, but it is really long.

            All are variables get with fread or integer manually entered, so this is basically simple math, but I have no clue on why is it so long (maybe nested loops ?) and how to improve, as I am more familiar with Python and for example multiprocess.

            Group by to return entirety of the data not just what I am grouping by
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 03:48

            Is it possible to return the entirety of data not just part of which we are grouping by?

            I mean for example - I have a dataframe with 5 columns and one of those columns contains distance, the other one is timestamp and the last important one is name. I grouped dataframe by timestamp - agg function I applied is (min) on distance. As a return i get correctly grouped dataframe with timestamp and distance - how can i add columns name there. If I group it by name as well then timestamp becomes duplicated - it has to stay unique. As a final result I need to get dataframe like this:

            timestamp name distance 2020-03-03 15:30:235 Billy 123 2020-03-03 15:30:435 Johny 111

            But instead i get this:

            timestamp distance 2020-03-03 15:30:235 123 2020-03-03 15:30:435 111

            Whole table has more than 700k rows so joining it back on distance gives me that amount of rows which my PC can't even handle.

            Here is my groupby which gives me 2nd table:

            grouped_df = df1.groupby('timestamp')['distance'].min()

            Here is what i tried to do in order to get name inside the table:

            Answered 2021-Jun-15 at 03:48

            You can use GroupBy.agg method to apply min on the distance column, and apply a relevant function on name column (lambda x:x to simply return its data). This will return the dataframe with both columns back to you:

            image distance transform different xyz voxel sizes
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 02:32

            I would like to find minimum distance of each voxel to a boundary element in a binary image in which the z voxel size is different from the xy voxel size. This is to say that a single voxel represents a 225x110x110 (zyx) nm volume.

            Normally, I would do something with scipy.ndimage.morphology.distance_transform_edt (https://docs.scipy.org/doc/scipy-0.14.0/reference/generated/scipy.ndimage.morphology.distance_transform_edt.html) but this gives the assume that isotropic sizes of the voxel:

            It does no such thing! You are looking for the sampling= parameter. From the latest version of the docs:

            Spacing of elements along each dimension. If a sequence, must be of length equal to the input rank; if a single number, this is used for all axes. If not specified, a grid spacing of unity is implied.

            The wording "sampling" or "spacing" is probably a bit mysterious if you think of pixels as little squares/cubes, and that is probably why you missed it. In most situations, it is better to think of pixels as point samples on a grid, with fixed spacing between samples. I recommend Alvy Ray's a pixel is not a little square for a better understanding of this terminology.

            The "average distance" of x and y is defined as (x + (y - x))/2.

            That's just y/2. Drop the first row and divide the rest by 2: sample.a[1:]/2

            I believe this comes close to what you were after.

            Two adjustments:

            1. changed widget positioning to absolute -- transforming with position: relative was repositioning the widgets in an inconsistent manner.

            2. had to adjust the translate -- I'm no expert with this library but it looks like the nativeElement transform properties are set relative to the position of the drawer option the user selects (the NOTE vs COLUMN options in your example). If you add more options you might have to adjust x,y for each depending on where the option is in the drawer space.

            Hope this helps and cheers!

            Generalized Traveling Salesman Problem in zimpl
            Asked 2021-Jun-14 at 07:17

            I am new to zimpl and I am currently trying to modell the GTSP. The setting is that we have nodes which are grouped into clusters. My problem is i dont know how to implement in zimpl which node belongs to which cluster.

            What I did so far:

            set V:= {1..6}; set A:= { in V*V with i < j};
            set C:= {1,2,3};
            set W:= { in C*C with p < q};
            set P[]:= powerset(C); set K:= indexset(P);

            I am guessing something is missing because i want to group node 1,2 in cluster 1, 3,4 in cluster 2 and 5,6 in cluster 3.

            Some background Information:

            Let G = (V, A) be a graph where V=1,2,...,n is the set of nodes and A = {(i, j): i, j ∈ V, i ≠ j} is the set of directed arcs (or edges), and let c_ij be the travel distance (or cost or time) from node i to node j. Let V1, V2, ... , Vk be disjoint subsets of V such that union of these subsets equals to V. These subsets are called clusters. The GTSP is to find the tour that (i) starts from a node and visits exactly one node from each cluster and turns back to the starting node (ii) never visit a node more than once and (iii) has the minimum total tour length. Associated with each arc, let x_ij be a binary variable equal to “1” if the traveler goes from node i to node j, and “0” otherwise.

            Thats the mathematicl model I want to model: min∑i∈V ∑j∈V\{i} cijxij subject to: ∑i∈Vp ∑j∈V\Vp xij = 1 (p= 1, ..., k) ∑i∈V\Vp ∑j∈Vp xij = 1 (p= 1, ..., k) ∑j∈V\{i} xji − ∑j∈V\{i} xij = 0 (∀i∈V) xij∈{0,1} ∀(i, j)A up−uq+k ∑i∈Vp ∑j∈Vq xij+(k−2)∑i∈Vq ∑j∈Vp xij ≤ k−1 (p≠q;p,q=2,...,k) up≥0 (p=2, ..., k) (Thats the link for the paper: http://www.wseas.us/e-library/conferences/2012/Vouliagmeni/MMAS/MMAS-09.pdf)

            Maybe someone can help! thanks
