Our work computers are bedeviled by an entire IT security department that seems to exist to make them useless. We are allowed to run R 3.6.3 (4.x hasn't been approved yet). you are referring to belong to the Direct Streaming (aka Spark Streaming) and not to Structured Streaming.
In case you are unaware of the difference, I recommend to have a look at the separate programming guides:
- Structured Streaming: processing structured data streams with relation queries (using Datasets and DataFrames, newer API than DStreams)
- Spark Streaming: processing data streams using DStreams (old API)
Structured Streaming does not provide a backpressure mechanism. As you are consuming from Kafka you can use (as you are already doing) the option maxOffsetsPerTrigger
to set a limit on read messages on each trigger. This option is documented in the Structured Streaming and Kafka Integration Guide as:
"Rate limit on maximum number of offsets processed per trigger interval. The specified total number of offsets will be proportionally split across topicPartitions of different volume."

Set-Up- Kafka topic has 16 partitions
- Spark runs with 16 worker cores, so each partitions can be consumed in parallel
- Using Spark Streaming (not Structured Streaming)
- Batch interval is 10 seconds

kept at default value of 100- The job can handle around 5000 messages per second per partition
- Kafka topic contains multiple millions of messages in each partitions before starting the streaming job
- In the very first batch the streaming job fetches 16000 (= 10 seconds * 16 partitions * 100 pid.minRate) messages.
- The job is processing these 16000 message quite fast, so the PID controller estimates an optimal rate of something larger than the masRatePerPartition of 10000.
- Therefore, in the second batch, the streaming job fetches 16000 (= 10 seconds * 16 partitions * 10000 maxRatePerPartition) messages.
- Now, it takes around 22 seconds for the second batch to finish
- Because our batch interval was set to 10 seconds, after 10 seconds the streaming job schedules already the third micro-batch with again 1600000. The reason is that the PID controller can only use performance information from finished micro-batches.
- Only in the sixth or seventh micro-batch the PID controller finds the optimal processing rate of around 5000 messages per second per partition.

Answered 2021-Aug-26 at 14:52broadcast() is used to cache data on each executor (instead of sending the data with every task) but it's not working too well with very large amounts of data. It seems here that 17M rows was a bit too much.
Pre-partitionning your source data before the join could also help if the partitioning of the source data is not optimized for the join. You'll want partition around the column you use for the join. Usually data should be partitionned depending on how it's consumed.

I'm trying to fine-tune the ReformerModelWithLMHead (google/reformer-enwik8) for NER. I used the padding sequence length same as in the encode method (max_length = max([len(string) for string in list_of_strings])) along with attention_masks. And I got this error:
ValueError: If training, make sure that config.axial_pos_shape factors: (128, 512) multiply to sequence length. Got prod((128, 512)) != sequence_length: 2248. You might want to consider padding your sequence length to 65536 or changing config.axial_pos_shape.
- When I changed the sequence length to 65536, my colab session crashed by getting all the inputs of 65536 lengths.
- According to the second option(changing config.axial_pos_shape), I cannot change it.
I would like to know, Is there any chance to change config.axial_pos_shape while fine-tuning the model? Or I'm missing something in encoding the input strings for reformer-enwik8?

Question Update: I have tried the following methods:
- By giving paramteres at the time of model instantiation:

It gives me the following error:
RuntimeError: Error(s) in loading state_dict for ReformerModelWithLMHead: size mismatch for reformer.embeddings.word_embeddings.weight: copying a param with shape torch.Size([258, 1024]) from checkpoint, the shape in current model is torch.Size([258, 128]). size mismatch for reformer.embeddings.position_embeddings.weights.0: copying a param with shape torch.Size([128, 1, 256]) from checkpoint, the shape in current model is torch.Size([16, 1, 32]).
This is quite a long error.
- Then I tried this code to update the config:

I have a real nice scene in SVG consisting of some clouds and a landscape, sort of like this:
Now I would like to work it in React.js and make it so you can scroll vertically through the scene, and it has sort of parallax effects. That is, say you just see this as your viewport initially.
As you scroll down, it reveals more of the vertical scene. BUT, it doesn't just scroll down the image like normal. Let's say the moon stays in view for a few "pages" of scrolling, only very slightly animating up. Then boom you reach a certain point and the moon quickly scrolls out of view and you are in the mountains. It scrolls slowly through the mountains and then boom quickly to the lake. Each time it "scrolls slowly through" something, that is room for some content to be overlaid. However long the content is for each "part" dictates how much slow scrolling there will be through that part of the scene. So even though the moon might be let's say 500px, there might be 3000px worth of content, so it should scroll let's say 200px of the moon SVG while in the moon phase, as it scrolls through 3000px of the content in front. Then it scrolls the remaining 300px plus some more perhaps to get past the moon, and then scrolls slowly through the mountains, with let's say 10000px of content. Etc.
Then, when in the mountains, each layer of the mountains "in the distance" moves slightly slower than the one in front. That sort of stuff.
The question is, how do I divide up the UI components / SVG / code so as to create these effects? Where I'm at now is, I have an SVG which has tons of transform="matrix(...)"
all through each element, like this:

Answered 2021-Aug-20 at 11:18If you can inline the svg inside the html and prepare it with groups that represent the parallax scrolling planes you can do something like the snippet below.
Due to svg structure these groups are already in order from back to front (farthest to nearest). So you can insert into id attribute of groups the parallax factor like prefixNN.NNN
.
Javascript-side you only need to match the groups, extract the parallax factor removing the prefix, and parsing the rest of the value as float.
Multiplying the parallax factor by the distance between the vertical center of the SVG and the center of the current view you will get the vertical translation to be applied to each group (with a multiplier to be adjusted if necessary).
