You can get the data in long format using separate_rows and join it with ref to get corresponding value. For each word, we can then sum the value together.

Given a list of arpabet tokens which encode a random utterance, I want to be able to see if the arpabet string is actually in the CMU pronunciation dict. If it is, I also want the word it matched with in the dictionary.

Is there any way I could do this in python?

Not sure if you want to do this using CMU Sphinx in Python or by yourself, but I've come up with a reasonable solution anyways. Here's the code:

I imported the cmu dictionary text into two columns, word and arpabet. And this is what I have so far:

If you're trying to get words that match the sound, then I believe you should match with the column arpabet and not with word.
