F# Custom Operator reporting incorrect usage in Computation Expression
            Asked 2022-Apr-16 at 17:31

I am creating a Computation Expression (CE) for simplifying the definition of Plans for modelers. I want to define functions that are only available in the CE. In this example the compiler says that the custom operations step and branch are being used incorrectly but I don't see why. All the compiler is saying is that they are not used correctly.

Note I know that I could define step and branch outside of the CE to accomplish this. This question is explicitly about using Custom Operators. I want to isolate this logic so that it is only available in the context of the CE.

It's because you're inside of the list at this point. The CE keywords only work directly at the "top level" of a CE, as far as I'm aware.

You could make a "sub" CE for the individual step and put keywords in there e.g.

BitBucket: You are using an account password for Git over HTTPS
            Asked 2022-Mar-01 at 19:41

Today I got the following message when I used Git + BitBucket on MacOS while pushing a new branch to BitBucket.

You are using an account password for Git over HTTPS.

Beginning March 1, 2022, users are required to use app passwords remote: for Git over HTTPS. To avoid any disruptions, change the password used in your Git client remote: to an app password. Note, these credentials may have been automatically stored in your Git client and/or a credential manager such as Git Credential Manager (GCM).'

In my case, I used BitBucket via HTTPS and not via SSH. Therefore I had to change it.

            1. Follow this guide to create and add a new SSH key.
            2. Follow this guide to switch from HTTPS to SSH.

            Unrelated and optional:

While you are at this security related task, activate 2FA in your BitBucket security settings.

"Configuring the trigger failed, edit and save the pipeline again" with no noticeable error and no further details
            Asked 2022-Feb-16 at 10:33

I have run in to an odd problem after converting a bunch of my YAML pipelines to use templates for holding job logic as well as for defining my pipeline variables. The pipelines run perfectly fine, however I get a "Some recent issues detected related to pipeline trigger." warning at the top of the pipeline summary page and viewing details only states: "Configuring the trigger failed, edit and save the pipeline again."

The odd part here is that the pipeline works completely fine, including triggers. Nothing is broken and no further details are given about the supposed issue. I currently have YAML triggers overridden for the pipeline, but I did also define the same trigger in the YAML to see if that would help (it did not).

I'm looking for any ideas on what might be causing this or how I might be able to further troubleshoot it given the complete lack of detail that the error/warning provides. It's causing a lot of confusion among developers who think there might be a problem with their builds as a result of the warning.

Here is the main pipeline. the build repository is a shared repository for holding code that is used across multiple repos in the build system. dev.yaml contains dev environment specific variable values. Shared holds conditionally set variables based on the branch the pipeline is running on.

I think I may have figured out the problem. It appears that this is related to the use of conditionals in the variable setup. While the variables will be set in any valid trigger configuration, it appears that the proper values are not used during validation and that may have been causing the problem. Switching my conditional variables to first set a default value and then replace the value conditionally seems to have fixed the problem.

It would be nice if Microsoft would give a more useful error message here, something to the extent of the values not being found for a given variable, but adding defaults does seem to have fixed the problem.

            build[s] a package's documentation

Their relationship is like between cargo build and cargo rustc: cargo doc performs all the usual work, for an entire workspace, including dependencies (by default). cargo rustdoc allows you to pass flags directly to rustdoc, and only works for a single crate.

Here is the execution code for cargo rustdoc. Here is the code for cargo doc. The only differences is that cargo rustdoc always specify to not check dependencies while cargo doc allows you to choose (by default it does, but you can specify the flag --no-deps), and that cargo rustc allows you to pass flags directly to rustdoc with the flags after the --.

Code readability, short-circuiting and it is not guaranteed that Ord will always outperform a || operand. Computer systems are more complicated than expected, even though they are man-made.

There was a case where a for loop with a much more complicated condition ran faster on an IBM. The CPU didn't cool and thus instructions were executed faster, that was a possible reason. What I am trying to say, focus on other areas to improve code than fighting small-cases which will differ depending on the CPU and the boolean evaluation (compiler optimizations).

Unfortunatelly, it's not possible to use expressions with uses now.

One possible workaround (that I used for myself) is to push reusable workflow(s) to one of the stable branches (main/master/develop/etc.) and use SHA as a ref.

Additional benefit here is that using SHA is actually the recommended way described here.

Rust uses the type for matching, so it doesn't know the bounds as per your logic. But you do.

For being explicit you can use unreachable!:

            Indicates unreachable code.

This is useful any time that the compiler can’t determine that some code is unreachable. For example:

Match arms with guard conditions. Loops that dynamically terminate. Iterators that dynamically terminate. If the determination that the code is unreachable proves incorrect, the program immediately terminates with a panic!.

Finding the longest chain of array element indices and values
            Asked 2022-Jan-19 at 22:38

I can't solve a problem. We have an array. If we take a value, the index of it means port ID, and the value itself means the other port ID it is connected to. Need to find the start index of the longest sequential connection to element which value is -1.

            I made a graphic explanation to describe the case for the array [2, 2, 1, 5, 3, -1, 4, 5, 2, 3]. On image the longest connection is purple (3 segments).

I need to make a solution by a function getResult(connections) with a single argument. I don't know how to do it, so i decided to return another function with several arguments which allows me to make a recursive solution.

The code doesn't work completely properly. Would you please explain my mistakes?

You were quite close. The main problem is that the return keyword in front of the recursive calls terminates the for loop and the entire f function prematurely. This will cause it to visit only the nodes on the first possible branch, not all of them.

The other issue is that branches might be empty at the end of the function, yet you still access [0][0]. Instead return the entire array from f, and access the first tuple on in getResult.

These two small fixes already make the function work1:
