You can't use connector compiled for Scala 2.11 with Spark 3.2.0 that is compiled with Scala 2.12. You need to use appropriate version - right now it's 3.1.0 with coordinates com.datastax.spark:spark-cassandra-connector_2.12:3.1.0

P.S. Please note that although basic functionality will work, more advanced functionality won't work until the SPARKC-670 is fixed (see this PR)

            GeoMesa Spark can't use geohash
            Asked 2021-Oct-18 at 21:59

I am using GeoMesa Spark on a Databricks cluster referring to this sample notebook: GeoMesa - NYC Taxis. I had no problem importing and using UDF functions such as st_makePoint and st_intersects. However, when I try to use st_geoHash to create a column of geohash of the points, I got this error:

NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class org.locationtech.geomesa.spark.jts.util.GeoHash$.

The cluster has geomesa-spark-jts_2.11:3.2.1 and scala-logging_2.11:3.8.0 installed, which are the two given by the notebook (but with a different version of GeoMesa, 2.3.2 in the notebook while 3.2.1 on my cluster). I am new to GeoMesa and Databricks platform. I wonder if I missed some dependencies for the Geohash class to work.

I would recommend you to install same version of geomesa-spark-jts_2.11 as given in this notebook.

To install geomesa-spark-jts_2.11:2.3.2 follow below steps:

            Step1: Click on install library.

Step2: Select Maven, Search and install geomesa-spark-jts_2.11:2.3.2.

Step3: You can also download jar file and upload it to Library Source.

Scala sbt assembly jar does not work (class implementation not found) but code works when through IntelliJ
            Asked 2021-Apr-20 at 16:34

            When launching my code with

            scala -cp assembly.jar class.A --config-path confFile

            I get

java.lang.IllegalStateException: No LivyClientFactory implementation was found

But when launching through IntelliJ it works just fine. Also I checked inside my assembly jar, I got the .class of LivyClientFactory.

I suspect a build.sbt mistake, anyone got an idea why he cant find the class?

I tried to play a bit with the assemblyMerge strategy with no success.

I am a beginner in Bazel and I need to migrate from sbt. I use Scala Rules to build my app.

I use the following dependencies with following aliases (to prevent typos):

All these dependencies will be installed by JVM External Rules. It looks like so in Workspace:

I have found the problem. Default scala_toolchain has direct mode. So it sees only dependencies, that are defined in the deps filed of scala_library or scala_macro_library. So there are two options to solve this problem:

            1. Add all needed direct dependencies to the deps array.
            2. Or define own scala_toolchain - docs - example

So for the current example, we need to define all direct dependencies. By the way, they are already downloaded when you do maven_install. Now we need only reference them:

For borer additional dependencies will be:

            • @maven//:io_bullet_borer_deriver_2_12

For scala_logging we need to add:

            • @maven//:org_slf4j_slf4j_api

            And for ujson we need:

            • @maven//:com_lihaoyi_geny_2_12
            • @maven//:com_lihaoyi_upickle_core_2_12

All fixes for the Github example repository are available in the repository under fix branches.

Your error messages is associated with each other. First error tells us that compiler couldn't find object SttpBackends which has field of SttpBackend. The second one tells us that compiler couldn't find implicit backend: SttpBackend for constructing FutureSttpClient. It requires two implicits: SttpBackend and ExecutionContext.

Currently, in AWS EMR Cluster, I am using Spark v2.4.5 which comes with Scala v2.11. So in my project, I want to use Scala v2.11 and corresponding SBT and Sbt-Assembly versions. It seems that you're mixing up the Scala version used by SBT and Scala version used in your project.

If you need to build project with Scala 2.11, it's just enough to specify in build.sbt

A JAR is just like a zip of classes, each class is the one that you can check with javap to see which JDK version they need by looking at the value of the "major version" field; see this.

If you want to ensure the classes are compiled to a specific Java version, you can use the release & target scalac options.
