wal is a script that takes an image (or a directory of images), generates a colorscheme (using imagemagick) and then changes all of your open terminal's colorschemes to the new colors on the fly. wal then caches each generated colorscheme so that cycling through wallpapers while changing colorschemes is instantaneous. wal finally merges the new colorscheme into the Xresources db so that any new terminal emulators you open use the new colorscheme.

And confirmed_flush_lsn
is:

The thing i do not understand (in case of logical slots) is - how do this both properties connected to each other? confirmed_flush_lsn
description said that older logs are deleted, but restart_lsn
sound like it is not 100% right. If not and there is some number of transaction logs between restart_lsn
and confirmed_flush_lsn
- how much could this number be? Is it some predefined and immutable value, lets say several MBs or it could it really raise up to max_slot_wal_keep_size
? How it is decided - what WAL still might be required by the consumer

is the latest position in the WAL for which the consumer has already received decoded data, so logical decoding won't emit data for anything earlier than that.
However, logical decoding may still need WAL older than that in order to calculate the required information, WAL from transactions that started before confirmed_flush_lsn
. Thus there is restart_lsn
, which marks the point from which on the server must retain WAL to be able to continue decoding.
QUESTION
When using Ignite 2.8.1-1 version and default configuration(1GB heap, 20% default region for off-heap storage and persistence enabled) on a Linux host with 16GB memory, I notice the ignite process could use up to 11GB of memory(verified by checking the resident size of memory used by the process in top, see attachment). When I check the metrics in the log, the consumed memory(heap+off-heap) doesn't add up to close to 7GB. One possibility is the extra memory could be used by the checkpoint buffer but that shall be by default 1/4 of the default region, that is, only about a quarter of 0.25 * 0.2 * 16GB.
Any hints on what the rest of the memory is used for?

Answered 2022-Feb-01 at 00:50Yes, the checkpoint buffer size is also taken into account here, if you haven't overridden the defaults, it should be 3GB/4 as you correctly highlighted. I wonder if it might be changed automatically since you have a lot more data ^-- Ignite persistence [used=57084MB] stored than the region capacity is - only 3GB. Also, this might be related to Direct Memory usage which I suppose is not being counted for the Java heap usage.
Anyway, I think it's better to check for Ignite memory metrics explicitly like data region and onheap usage and inspect them in detail.

We are using GridGain Community edition : 8.8.10 and have created Ignite Cluster in Kubernetes using the Apache Ignite operator. We have enabled native persistence also.

In the development environment we shutdown our cluster during the night and bring it up during morning hours. When the cluster comes up it contains the data which was stored earlier. If we search the cache using key then it returns the result, but if we use the Query API for partial search then it is not returning results. We checked the cache size and it matches the datasource record size. Also after we search the Cache using the cache key, then that entry is available in the Query search results.
If we shut-down one of the nodes of the Ignite Cluster or client nodes. The TextSearch still works. TextSearch doesn't works only when all the nodes of the cluster are scaled-down and then scaled up using the existing disk.
Is there any configuration required to enable Query search after cold restart of the Ignite cluster ?

Answered 2021-Dec-09 at 11:07Apache Ignite uses Apache Lucene (currently it's 7.4.0) for text queries under the hood. In general Lucene-based indexes leverage various implementations of org.apache.lucene.store.Directory. In Apache Ignite it's a custom one. In turn it uses RAM-based GridLuceneOutputStream. Basically it means that Ignite native persistence doesn't come into play for those kinds of indexes at the moment.
UPD: in case of configured backups for a partitioned cache it should work as a regular index. For example if you add an additional node to the baseline topology you would see a rebalance happening. Rebalance uses regular cache operations to insert entries. Lucene index would be built on the new node. On the contrary if you remove a node from a cluster you would still have a full copy of data including text indexes.

I have been working on getting my database backing up to work and I have reached a point where I am not sure what to do.
Basically at first the application opens a Login activity, the user logs in and their database file (if it exists) is downloaded from the Firebase Storage, and then the application navigates to the MainActivity.
In the MainActivity I call a method that sends the user's database file to Firebase Storage. I tried to manage the process by closing the database but since i couldn't fix an error of "E/ROOM: Invalidation tracker is initialized twice :/.", then I found an answer to use a checkpoint (Backup Room database). Now I implemented the forced checkpoint method.

object simply building another one over the same object will prevent any hold over cached data from showing up. I've tested this using multiple database swaps large and small and there is no bleed over.
If you are using a new Instance of the RoomDatabase
object for every login try closing the old one after the user logs out. Room will typically close when not needed but if you need it to happen immediately, manually closing it is your best bet.

I'm using Room version 2.2.6., Android Studio 4.2.2 and writing in Java.
I filled my app's database manually interacting with the app in an emulator, and it shows up both in the app and in the database inspector as one would expect. I built a certain initial example state that I would like my users to have upon first start. I then downloaded the .db .db-shm .db-wal
files straight from the device file explorer and saved them in src/main/assets/databases/ as one does.
In my database initialization code I added the line .createFromAsset("databases/Example.db")
between the .databaseBuilder
and .build
calls, to prepopulate my database from those files.
Yet after wiping my local data and reinstalling the app, the database stays empty.
Any clue what direction I could search in? All the posts here I found relating to createFromAsset only contain the same copied paragraph from the documentation.

To check my database I always open Device File Explorer and navigate to package.name> databases> here I find 3 files: dbName, dbName-shm, dbName-wal. The file that I occupy is dbName, so I right click and choose "Save as ..." after choosing the path the file is saved, later I check it with a software called "DB Browser for SQLite".
I had never had problems to see my database, but about 1 week ago the problems started, because the file called "dbName" is never updated, how do I know that? In the column "Date" the last modification date of each file, dbName.shm and dbName-wal change value in "Date" when I tap on "Synchronize" but "dbName" keeps the creation date and time, when opening the file with "DB Browser" there is nothing.
What is the problem? Has the path where my database is being saved changed?

Answered 2021-Nov-17 at 03:14The symptoms you are describing are consistent with the -wal (i.e. dbName-wal) doing what it is designed to do.
The short fix is to save all three files NOT just the dbName file.
The better/safer fix is to close the database, ensuring that the database is fully committed.
The -wal file, if it exists and is not empty is part of the database. Opening just the dbName file without the -wal file will mean that some of the database is missing.
The -wal file is used for logging changes for use when a roll-back is required or requested. As such changes are first applied to the -wal file which SQLite knows to be part of the database. I the event that a rollback being required the relevant pages in the -wal file can be removed.
The changes held in the -wal file are applied to the actual database file by COMMITS some of which are actioned, by default, automatically. The automatic COMMITS may not COMMIT all changes. However, closing the database will COMMIT all changes.

The SQLITE_READONLY_DBMOVED error code is an extended error code for SQLITE_READONLY. The SQLITE_READONLY_DBMOVED error code indicates that a database cannot be modified because the database file has been moved since it was opened, and so any attempt to modify the database might result in database corruption if the processes crashes because the rollback journal would not be correctly named.
If the message is to be believed then the database has been moved/renamed. From the message it would appear that the (one of the two being handled) database is being renamed whilst it is open.
In the log many of the entries are similar so it looks like two databases are being managed i.e. it is the stage of creating the database from the asset.
This may well be an issue with the createFromAsset
handling which I understand to not necessarily be rock solid. e.g. at present there are issues with the prePackagedDatabaseCallback.
As such by using createFromAsset
that you can do nothing other than raise an issue.
I would suggest circumventing the issue and pre-copying the asset yourself before passing control to Room.
- to undertake the copy you do not need to open the database as a database just as a file.
The other alternative, could be to see if exclusively using WAL mode, overcomes the issue. As you are disabling WAL mode, then I guess that you have no wish to do so (hence why suggested as the last).
- this would not only entail not disabling WAL mode but also having the asset set to WAL mode before distribution.

- Having multiple threads on a single machine: here,
SqliteQueueDatabase
is a very good fit - Having multiple machines, with one or more threads: that's basically how internet works.
So I ended up installing Postgre. A few links if it can be useful to people coming after me, for linux:
- Install Postgre. You can build it from source if you don't have root privilege following chapter 17 from the official documentation, then Chapter 19.
- You can export an SQLite database with
pgloader
. But again, if you don't have the right librairies and don't want to build everything, you can do it by hand. I did the following, not sure if more straightforward solution exist.
