Instead of pip install chatterbot, try pip install sugaroid-chatterbot.

            Disclaimer

The build might take a long time on a single RPi. If you have a cluster of multiple Pi's available, it may be wise to invest into setting up distcc on them. This will also reduce the last step (verifying the build by running the tests) as pytest supports distributed test running on multiple hosts with the pytest-xdist plugin, so running the tests will pass a lot faster on a cluster.

Also, although crosscompiling for ARM on a x86 system is a lot more faster option, a proper setup may take a lot more time than the slow native compilation, so beware.

As for the wheel, you might have downloaded the wheel file for a different platform. Also, I am not sure why you are trying to flag '-U' though you are installing the package in a virtual environment. If your environment is active, try to install it without the flag and show the result.

ChatterBot indirectly required blis==0.2.4 and the version doesn't provide precompiled wheels for Python 3.8. My advice is to downgrade to Python 3.7.

If you want to compile blis for Python 3.8 see the compilation instructions at https://github.com/explosion/cython-blis#installation:

If you want to install from source and you're on Windows, you'll need to install LLVM.

The errors that I kept getting because, I was using 32-bit python executable. How I handle the problem by using 64-bit version of python and installing the virtualenv, spacy packages again. Additionally, you will probably need administrator permission to using spaCy properly. If your OS is Windows, just run the prompt as administrator.

            Install cython-blis

You can install the package via pip, first making sure that pip, setuptools, and wheel are up-to-date:. Wheels should be available, so installation should be fast. If you want to install from source and you're on Windows, you'll need to install LLVM.
In order to compile the Blis sources, we use jsonl files that provide the explicit compiler flags. We build these jsonl files by running Blis's build system, and then converting the log. This avoids us having to replicate the build system within Python: we just use the jsonl to make a bunch of subprocess calls. To support a new OS/architecture combination, we have to provide the jsonl file and the header.
