kandi X-RAY | pigz Summary

pigz is a C library. pigz has no bugs and it has medium support. However pigz has 2 vulnerabilities. You can download it from GitHub.

pigz 2.7 (15 Jan 2022) by Mark Adler. pigz, which stands for Parallel Implementation of GZip, is a fully functional replacement for gzip that exploits multiple processors and multiple cores to the hilt when compressing data. pigz was written by Mark Adler and does not include third-party code. I am making my contributions to and distributions of this project solely in my personal capacity, and am not conveying any rights to any intellectual property of any third parties. This version of pigz is written to be portable across Unix-style operating systems that provide the zlib and pthread libraries. Type "make" in this directory to build the "pigz" executable. You can then install the executable wherever you like in your path (e.g. /usr/local/bin/). Type "pigz" to see the command help and all of the command options. The latest version of pigz can be found at . You need zlib version 1.2.3 or later to compile pigz. zlib version 1.2.6 or later is recommended, which reduces the overhead between blocks. You can find the latest version of zlib at . You can look in pigz.c for the change history.

Fail to build Yocto extensible SDK
            Asked 2022-Jan-02 at 13:11

I'm new to Yocto and I've been trying to setup for developing with devtool.

I've followed the instructions from from the Yocto Linux Kernel Development Manual, but I've made a change to Step #2, setting MACHINE = stm32mp1 since I'm targeting the STM32MP157D-DK1. However, Step #5 fails, where it asks you to build the SDK using the command bitbake core-image-minimal -c populate_sdk_ext with the following error:

            I've fixed the build issue. It required adding meta-python2 as I did; but instead of IMAGE_INSTALL_append = " python-dev", TOOLCHAIN_HOST_TASK_append = " nativesdk-python-core" is needed instead in local.conf.

It looks like I didn't install the package "numactl" for some reason.

Just double check if you have those packages installed with (On Archbased)

Put a . in the end of the command.

The -C tell tar to change its directory before running but without specifying what to archive tar has no idea what to do.

You can read tar cf foo.tar -C bar zar1 zar2 as: create an archive named foo.tar by going to bar folder and archiving zar1 and zar2 files.

To fully uninstall docker follow below commands:

            • dpkg -l | grep -i docker
            • sudo apt-get purge -y docker-engine docker docker.io docker-ce docker-ce-cli
            • sudo apt-get autoremove -y --purge docker-engine docker docker.io docker-ce

These commands will not remove the images, containers, volumes etc user created configuration files. So before deleting docker first delete these things. For deleting these things you can follow below commands:

            • docker rm -f (docker ps -a | awk '{print$1}'): To delete all the docker container available in your machine
            • docker rmi -f $(docker images -a -q): To delete all the images, but before this you should remove all the containers which are created from this images
            • docker rm -vf $(docker ps -a -q): To delete all containers including its volumes uses

file compressed through command "pv" are different from ordinary compressed file

            here is my script:

            tar cf - testdir | pv -s $(du -sb testdir | awk '{print $1}') | pigz -1 > pv.tar.gz

            tar cf - testdir | pigz -1 > nopv.tar.gz

and then the output is "Binary files pv.tar.gz and nopv.tar.gz differ".

            I execute hexdump

It's not to do with pv. Bytes 5 to 8 in a gzip header are the timestamp. This will be different each time you run the command. You can tell pigz not to store it with the -m switch, so your commands are:

Python multiprocessing write to single gzip in parallel
            Asked 2020-Oct-30 at 15:05

TL;DR: Is there a python library that allows parallel writes into a single gzip file from multiple processes?

            Details:

I am trying to copy a large, compressed file (.gz) to another compressed file (.gz) using python. I will perform intermediate processing on the data that is not present in my code sample. I would like to be able to use multiprocessing with locks to write to the new gzip in parallel from multiple processes, but I get an invalid format error on the output gz file.

I assume that this is because a lock is not enough to support writing to a gzip in parallel. Since compressed data requires "knowledge" of the data that came before it in order to make correct entries into the archive I don't think that python can't handle this by default. I'd guess that each process maintains its own awareness of the gzip output and that this state diverges after the first write.

If I open the target file in the script without using gzip then this all works. I could also write to multiple gzips and merge them, but prefer to avoid that if possible.

            Here is my source code:

It's actually quite straightforward to do by writing complete gzip streams from each thread to a single output file. Yes, you will need one thread that does all the writing, with each compression thread taking turns writing all of its gzip stream, before another compression thread gets to write any. The compression threads can all do their compression in parallel, but the writing needs to be serialized.

The reason this works is that the gzip standard, RFC 1952, says that a gzip files consists of a series of members, where each member is a gzip header, compressed data, and gzip trailer.

The most likely reason for the issue is the use of Amazon Linux 1 (amzn1). Amazon Linux 1 uses sysvinit, instead of systemd.

The recommended solution is to use Amazon Linux 2 which does support systemd
