I'm following similar example as in this blog post:

Except that I'm not running kafka connect worker on GCP but locally.
Everything is fine I run the docker-compose up and kafka connect starts but when I try to create instance of source connector via CURL I get the following ambiguous message (Note: there is literally no log being outputed in the kafka connect logs):

Answered 2021-Jun-11 at 14:27I managed to get it to work, this is a correct configuration...
The message "Unable to connect to the server" was because I had wrongly deployed mongo instance so it's not related to kafka-connect or confluent cloud.
I'm going to leave this question as an example if somebody struggles with this in the future. It took me a while to figure out how to configure docker-compose for kafka-connect that connects to confluent cloud.

I'm have a Kafka Connect MongoDB Source Connector (both via Confluent Platform) working but the messages it creates contain a control character at the start, which makes downstream parsing (to JSON) of this message harder than I imagine it should be.

Answered 2021-May-14 at 18:25The character you're referring to is typically common with Avro serialized data that's been decoded into a string.
Check the key/value converter settings in the Connect worker since you've not defined it in the Connector.
If you want to parse to JSON, use the JSONConverter, otherwise Avro would work as well if you want to skip data class definitions and generate that from the Avro schema

I'm trying to build a simple pipeline between MongoDB and Elasticsearch using Kafka. Inserted data are successfully stored in Elasticsearch but when I edit or delete a document I just get another document stored in Elasticsearch. This is my MongoDB source connector

Answered 2020-Apr-28 at 15:23You've set "key.ignore": "true"
which per the docs means that the connector will use the message's topic+partition+offset for the Elasticsearch document ID. Since each update and delete message in Kafka is a new message, you'll be getting a new Elasticsearch document each time.
Set "key.ignore": "true"
in your sink connector and make sure that your Kafka message key uniquely identifies the document that you want to update/edit in Elasticsearch.
To handle this specifically with a MongoDB Source, you need to pull the source ID out of the STRUCT
in the key by adding this to your source connector:

I am here because i faced an error while running kafka-mongodb-source-connect I was trying to run connect-standalone with connect-avro-standalone.properties and MongoSourceConnector.properties so that Connect write data which is written in mongodb to kafka topic.

I'm using the following mongo-source which is supported by kafka-connect. I found that one of the configurations of the mongo source (from here) is tasks.max.
this means I can provide the connector tasks.max which is > 1, but I fail to understand what it will do behind the scene?
If it will create multiple connectors to listen to mongoDb change stream, then I will end up with duplicate messages. So, does mongo-source really has parallelism and works as a cluster? what does it do if it has more then 1 tasks.max?

Answered 2019-Dec-18 at 13:40Mongo-source doesn't support tasks.max > 1. Even if you set it greater than 1 only one task will be pulling data from mongo to Kafka.
How many task is created depends on particular connector. Function List> Connector::taskConfigs(int maxTasks)
, (that should be overridden during the implementation of your connector) return the list, which size determine number of Tasks.
If you check mongo-kafka source connector you will see, that it is singletonList.

Answered 2018-Feb-03 at 10:14From the godep documentation about migration:
dep assumes that all generated code exists, and has been committed to the source.
Therefore, it seems to be impossible to do what I want. The solution is to create a repository which contains the generated sources, and make sure these sources are automatically generated and kept in-sync with the actual source data (in my case the raw *.proto files).
Since I cannot put the generated sources into the same repository as the source data, it is neccessary to completely synchronise these two repositories (same branches, same tags), so that the versions used by go dep are somehow useful when comparing with the actual repository, that only contains declarations.
