            Why does this hash calculating bit hack work?

            For practice I've implemented the qoi specification in rust. In it there is a small hash function to store recently used pixels:

            index_position = (r * 3 + g * 5 + b * 7 + a * 11) % 64

            where r, g, b, and a are the red, green, blue and alpha channels respectively.

            I assume this works as a hash because it creates a unique prime factorization for the numbers with the mod to limit the number of bytes. Anyways I implemented it naively in my code.

            While looking at other implementations I came across this bit hack to optimize the hash calculation:

            If you think about the way the math works, you want this flipped order, because it means all the results from each of the "logical" multiplications cluster in the same byte. The highest byte in the first value multiplied by the lowest byte in the second produces a result in the highest byte. The lowest byte in the first value's product with the highest byte in the second value produces a result in the same highest byte, and the same goes for the intermediate bytes.

            Yes, the 0x78... and 0x03... are also multiplied by each other, but they overflow way past the top of the value and are lost. Having the order "backwards" means the result of the multiplications we care about all ends up summed in the uppermost byte (the total shift of the results we want is always 56 bits, because the 56th bit offset value is multiplied by the 0th, the 40th by the 16th, the 16th by the 40th, and the 0th by the 56th), with the rest of the multiplications we don't want having their results either overflow (and being lost) or appearing in lower bytes (which we ignore). If you flipped the bytes in the second value, the 0x78 * 0x0B (alpha value & multiplier) component would be lost to overflow, while the 0x12 * 0x03 (red value & multiplier) component wouldn't reach the target byte (every component we cared about would end up somewhat that wasn't the uppermost byte).

            I think your dispose method is correct because TryComplete returns true only once and it is thread safe.

            But there is a problem, you expose the channel to subscribers, so they are able to explicitly call TryComplete/Complete to finish the writer. It's better to conceal it and just expose a write method.

            When you are working with secret keys, if your code branches unequally it could reveal bits of the secret keys via side channels. So for some algorithms it should branch uniformly independently of the secret key.

            On C/C++/Rust, you can use assembly to be sure that no compiler optimizations will mess with the branching. However, on Java, the situation is difficult. First of all, it does JIT for desktop, and AOT on Android, so there are 2 possibilities for the code to be optimized in an unpredictable way, as JIT and AOT are always changing and can be different for each device. So, how are side channel attacks that take advantage of branching prevented on Java?

            When performing side-channel attacks, one of the main ways of doing these are to read the power-consumption of the chip using differential power analysis (DPA). When you have a branch in a code, such as an if statement, this can adversely affect the power draw in such a way that correlations can be made as to which choices are being made. To thwart this analysis, it would be in your interest to have a "linear" power consumption. This can do some degree be mitigated by code, but would ultimately depend upon the device itself. According Brennan et.al [1], some chose to tackle the java JIT issue by caching instructions.             1. Listen for when a channel is deleted
            2. Check to see if its type equals 'GUILD_CATEGORY'
            3. Delete all the channels under that category

            Why?

            Unfortunately, this is how CategoryChannels work in discord.js...
            When the category is deleted, discord.js sends a request to the API to delete the channel. Only then, Discord sends you the event after the category is deleted.
            What happens next is that the children are not located in the category anymore! So you will not be able to get the children inside the CategoryChannel object.

            Does it make sense to use Conda + Poetry?

            Does it make sense to use Conda + Poetry for a Machine Learning project? Allow me to share my (novice) understanding and please correct or enlighten me:

            As far as I understand, Conda and Poetry have different purposes but are largely redundant:

            • Conda is primarily a environment manager (in fact not necessarily Python), but it can also manage packages and dependencies.
            • Poetry is primarily a Python package manager (say, an upgrade of pip), but it can also create and manage Python environments (say, an upgrade of Pyenv).

            My idea is to use both and compartmentalize their roles: let Conda be the environment manager and Poetry the package manager. My reasoning is that (it sounds like) Conda is best for managing environments and can be used for compiling and installing non-python packages, especially CUDA drivers (for GPU capability), while Poetry is more powerful than Conda as a Python package manager.

            I've managed to make this work fairly easily by using Poetry within a Conda environment. The trick is to not use Poetry to manage the Python environment: I'm not using commands like poetry shell or poetry run, only poetry init, poetry install etc (after activating the Conda environment).

            As I wrote in the comment, I've been using a very similar Conda + Poetry setup in a data science project for the last year, for reasons similar to yours, and it's been working fine. The great majority of my dependencies are specified in pyproject.toml, but when there's something that's unavailable in PyPI, I add it to environment.yml.

            Some additional tips:

            1. Add Poetry, possibly with a version number (if needed), as a dependency in environment.yml, so that you get Poetry installed when you run conda env create, along with Python and other non-PyPI dependencies.
            2. Consider adding conda-lock, which gives you lock files for Conda dependencies, just like you have poetry.lock for Poetry dependencies.

            SOLVED - The categories/channels were set to private which is why they couldn't be changed even with the correct permissions. My solution was to tell the user which ones and to add the role with the permissions manually. I added a message that said they can just give the bot administrator permissions and it will do it for them. Hopefully, this helps anyone who runs into this in the future.

            In golang I have taken an array ARR1 which represents a time series ( could be audio or in my case an image ) where each element of this time domain array is a floating point value which represents the height of the raw audio curve as it wobbles ... I then fed this floating point array into a FFT call which returned a new array ARR2 by definition in the frequency domain where each element of this array is a single complex number where both the real and the imaginary parts are floating points ... when I then fed this array into an inverse FFT call ( IFFT ) it gave back a floating point array ARR3 in the time domain ... to a first approximation ARR3 matched ARR1 ... needless to say if I then took ARR3 and fed it into a FFT call its output ARR4 would match ARR2 ... essentially you have this time_domain_array --> FFT call -> frequency_domain_array --> InverseFFT call -> time_domain_array ... rinse N repeat

            I know Web Audio API has a FFT call ... do not know whether it has an IFFT api call however if no IFFT ( inverse FFT ) you can write your own such function here is how ... iterate across ARR2 and for each element calculate the magnitude of this frequency ( each element of ARR2 represents one frequency and in the literature you will see ARR2 referred to as the frequency bins which simply means each element of the array holds one complex number and as you iterate across the array each successive element represents a distinct frequency starting from element 0 to store frequency 0 and each subsequent array element will represent a frequency defined by adding incr_freq to the frequency of the prior array element )

            Paramiko authentication fails with "Agreed upon 'rsa-sha2-512' pubkey algorithm" (and "unsupported public key algorithm: rsa-sha2-512" in sshd log)

            I have a Python 3 application running on CentOS Linux 7.7 executing SSH commands against remote hosts. It works properly but today I encountered an odd error executing a command against a "new" remote server (server based on RHEL 6.10):

            encountered RSA key, expected OPENSSH key

            Executing the same command from the system shell (using the same private key of course) works perfectly fine.

            On the remote server I discovered in /var/log/secure that when SSH connection and commands are issued from the source server with Python (using Paramiko) sshd complains about unsupported public key algorithm:

            userauth_pubkey: unsupported public key algorithm: rsa-sha2-512

            Note that target servers with higher RHEL/CentOS like 7.x don't encounter the issue.

            It seems like Paramiko picks/offers the wrong algorithm when negotiating with the remote server when on the contrary SSH shell performs the negotiation properly in the context of this "old" target server. How to get the Python program to work as expected?

            Imo, it's a bug in Paramiko. It does not handle correctly absence of server-sig-algs extension on the server side.

            Try disabling rsa-sha2-* on Paramiko side altogether:
