Using React-table to filter rows based on meta-data
            Asked 2021-Jun-13 at 17:50

I know how to filter rows based on content that is rendered in the table, but how could I filter (using useFilters) a table based on information which isn't shown in the table, but is available in the data-set?

I figure I could let react-table show the tags/meta-data in the table and just hide it with styling, but that seems not too good.

            Example data:

My solution for this isn't the most elegant, but perhaps you can adapt it to fit your needs. I used the react-table examples to do most of the boilerplate, so the fields do not match with the example fields you gave but hopefully you can adapt it.

            In summary:

Any fields that you do not want shown you can hide on table creation by passing the hiddenColumns property an array of string IDs.

REACT Table select rows not creating checkboxes correctly
            Asked 2021-Jun-10 at 14:11

I am new to REACT and having trouble getting a table component to work correctly. I am using the react-tables package and the tutorial example here but I am doing everything in a table.js component file and adding it to my App.js. Basically, I am trying to create a table with pagination, sorting, and selectable rows with checkboxes. My issue is that I am only getting the checkboxes to populate in the header (see below).

Here is my code; what am I doing incorrectly here? Note - my rows are being created using page, not row and are coming from my API. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

How to search/filter in react-table, if the accessor was the function

In React-table, I have an accessor as the function. I am using useFilter to filter out the data, but it always returns an empty array.

I think you have misunderstood what the accessor is supposed to do. You are returning a React Element/JSX, and according to the docs,

The data returned by an accessor should be primitive and sortable.

To render the first cell as a link, change the accessor to "firstName", and modify the tr inside your tbody like this:

You're mutating state by using push.

This causes react to "miss" the state update and not re-render. When your state is an Object or Array, you need to pass a new instance on updates.

Below is a simplified example of how React determines if it should update:

How to use react-table for a local json file?
            Asked 2021-May-20 at 00:24

I have a rather simple question on using react-table from React.js.

I cannot find any samples nor documents regarding useMemo for a local json, pretty much all of the tutorials are based on asyn api.

The objective is to create a table as such: https://codesandbox.io/s/github/tannerlinsley/react-table/tree/master/examples/pagination?file=/src/App.js

The only difference between the tutorial and mine, is the makeData file would be an actual json file with legit data.

            This is what I tried:

Apologies in advance if I'm wrong here -- I guess that's what the downvote button is for.

It looks like useMemo expects the data to be formatted as an array containing objects, versus the raw json format you're currently providing.

            Importing the JSON

Depending on modules available, either use the built in json loader, or wrap your json file inside a ts/js file e.g.

react-table rows sort filter resetting on data change
            Asked 2021-May-04 at 21:45

I am trying to sort data in a react-table, but as new data arrives the sorts are nullified. The component containing the table gets its data from a prop. That data itself comes from redux, which is updated every 15 seconds with the latest data from the server (where it is changing frequently).

What I'd like is to sort the data, and for those sorts to stay in place as/when the data changes. What actually happens is that I sort the table by a column header, and then when the data changes the sorts are removed.

            I have tried:

            Sorting works:

but becomes this as soon as data changes:

I would like to preserve the sort filter so that as new data arrives (the same 99% of the time, but 1% of the time a column value is different or there is a new row) it is sorted by the applied sort filter.

Here's a simplified example of my code (as small as I could make it):

            ANSWER

            Answered 2021-May-04 at 21:45

Don't declare React components inside other React components. Every time a React functional component rerenders it recreates everything declared in its function body, while retaining references to memoised variables coming from various hooks useState, useCallback, useMemo e.t.c.

When you declare a component inside another component's body, you are getting a new component on every render, which will not retain any internal state it had from the previous render. Hence your UI selections are being removed.

Declare Table in a separate file and import it into TableTest. Alternatively, just move everything inside Table into the body of TableTest.

I would also get rid of both your useMemo hooks since they are not achieving anything. In the first case, if you have a static array/object just declare it outside the scope of the component, while in the second case, localData is already effectively memoised by the state hook.
