QUESTION
I am trying to run this combined model, of text and numeric features, and I am getting the error ValueError: Invalid parameter tfidf for estimator
. Is the problem in the parameters

ANSWER
Answered 2021-Jun-01 at 19:18As stated here, nested parameters must be accessed by the __
(double underscore) syntax. Depending on the depth of the parameter you want to access, this applies recursively. The parameter use_idf
is under:
features
> text_features
> tfidf
> use_idf
So the resulting parameter in your grid needs to be:

I'm new to pytorch and I am creating a one hot encoding function for multi-layer perceptron but I'm having some issues. Here is the code:
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-May-23 at 12:22This is not a direct answer, but an alternative. PyTorch already has functionality for this: torch.nn.functional.one_hot
. So, if you have a label tensor label

I've just started using pytorch and I am trying a simple multi-layer perceptron . My ReLU Activation Function is the following:
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-May-22 at 04:29The issue is not on result
, it's either on X
, W_ih
, or torch.where(outputs > 0, outputs, 0.)
.
If you don't set an argument for the dtype
of torch.rand()
, it will assign the dtype based on the pytorch's global default value.
The global variable can be changed using torch.set_default_tensor_type()
.
Or go the easy route:

QUESTION
I recently coded a neural network based on this online book and Sebastian Lague's brief series on neural networks on youtube. I coded it as faithfully to the original as possible but it didn't end up working. I am trying to solve a simple XOR problem with it but it always seems to give me random but similar values. I even tried copying and pasting the author's code, without changing anything, but it still didn't work.
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Apr-17 at 18:12I seem to have fixed it. I made three main changes:
I switched the a and o in the output layer error calculation which then looked like this:
error = (o - a) * self.activationPrime( self.zCollection[-1] )
.When updating the weights and biases I replaced
QUESTION
i write 3 class classification for iris dataset(there are 3 classes) and i use 3 perceptrons. I have problem with perceptron learning, perceptron learn correct only for first class, second and third class have the same weights and i dont know what i make wrong. Always perceptron for first class learn correct and classifies correct. First perceptron have target 0, second 1 and third 2. When i swap places and the first one learns, the perceptron with target 2 will work fine, the first one always works fine and the next two work badly. There is something wrong with setting the data to train.
PS. This is my first python application.

Answered 2021-Apr-07 at 03:16Two things I noted in your code:
- When you assign numpy arrays to a new variable, they are treated as the same variable, ie. changes to the new variable will affect the initial. That means your code will change y_train when you change your y_train_01_subset, y_train_02_subset, and y_train_03_subset values. This means that your code will only work for your first subset because y_train will be all -1's when you reach the second set. Use
.copy()
to get around this. - In your y_train_03_subset, you set your values equal to 0 to be 2, and then set values equal to 2 equal to -1, so all of your values will be -1. Rearrange these lines.
To get around these, substitute in the following code:
QUESTION
good evening, let us suppose that we have artificial data generated using following code
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Apr-06 at 15:08You simply have to cut your trained network in the middle, wherever you like but paying attention that your network returns 2D data. Only in this way you can fit a tabular model.
In the example below, we fit a dense NN and then apply a RandomForest from sklearn on the hidden extracted features. You can modify the network or change the final tabular model
QUESTION
I'm playing around with Neural Nets and wanted to make a clean class implementation to handle any size net. Currently, I'm debugging my learning function to deal with 2-Layer networks.
In it's current state using logistic activation:
- It cannot learn values below 0.5
- It cannot handle matrices of input vectors (only single input vectors), this can be implemented later
- If initial weights and bias result in output less than 0.5, it will likely learn towards 0
- Assumption: In "ideal" conditions, it will learn any value between 0.5 and 1 using any combination of binary input
- This has been tested with 2 and 3 inputs to network
- Does proper forward propagation regardless of number of layers
Here's the relevant code:
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Apr-06 at 07:46The one issue that immediately pops out is that your derivative of the sigmoid seems incorrect. The derivative of sigmoid(x) is not equal to (x)*(1-x) but sigmoid(x)(1-sigmoid(x))
You can change your implementation accordingly
QUESTION
I am trying to create a simple multy-layer perceptron (MLP) using Keras. In order to avoid data leakage I am using a pipeline in a cross-validation routine.
To do that I have to use a keras wrapper; everything is working fine unless I do not put a TensorBoard callback into the wrapper. I read tons of stackoverflow answers and it looks that my code is correct but I get the following error:
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Mar-26 at 17:00So finally I found a solution, actually it is more a workaround. I write it here wishing that it can be useful for some other ML practictioner. The explanation of my problem is simple and can be explained in 3 steps:
- sklearn do not provide a method to plot the training history of the model. I found something similar to the keras history only in the MLPclassifier that has an attribute loss_
- tensorflow and keras do not provide crossvalidation and pipelines routines to avoid data-leakage (since usually in deep learning there is not room for CV)
- wrapping a keras MLP using KerasClassifier and putting it in a sklearn pipeline is not useful because it is not possible to extrapolate the history of the classifier of the pipelin (when calling the fit function).
So finally I used the sklearn function plot_validation_curve to create a plot of the MLP loss function in function of the training epochs. In order to avoid data-leakage I used a pipeline and the cross validation method of sklearn.
