QUESTION
I have Confluent registry that is out of my control, and producer that is based upon @kafkajs/confluent-schema-registry
. Is there any way how I can understand which version of message format is used?
I can get encoded AVRO
message, but it's just stream of bytes. Is there any way to understand which version of a message it actually is?
ANSWER
Answered 2021-May-11 at 13:32I see you are using Confluent who have their own version of the wire format.
Embedded in the leading bytes is the Schema ID which can be used to fetch the schema from their Schema Registry:
https://docs.confluent.io/platform/current/schema-registry/serdes-develop/index.html#wire-format
I am not sure how to manipulate the bytes in Javascript but what we've done in Scala :
- drop the first byte
- read the next 4 bytes turn that into an integer
- remaining bytes can be deserialized with the schema fetched from Schema Registry.
/Side Note: What is really annoying is this a vendor specific format even though the Apache Avro spec denotes a Single-object encoding which includes schema information.
Furthermore it also looks like Confluent seem uninterested in supporting the Apache Avro format. https://github.com/confluentinc/schema-registry/issues/1294
QUESTION
(end goal) before trying out whether i could eventually read avro data, usng spark stream, out of the Confluent Platform like some described here: Integrating Spark Structured Streaming with the Confluent Schema Registry
I'd to verify whether I could use below command to read them:
...ANSWER
Answered 2020-Sep-10 at 20:11If you are getting Unknown Magic Byte with the consumer, then the producer didn't use the Confluent AvroSerializer, and might have pushed Avro data that doesn't use the Schema Registry.
Without seeing the Producer code or consuming and inspecting the data in binary format, it is difficult to know which is the case.
The message was produced using confluent connect file-pulse
Did you use value.converter
with the AvroConverter class?
QUESTION
I am trying to build an infrastructure in which I need to forward messages from one kafka topic to elasticsearch and postgresql. My infrastructure looks like in the picture below, and it all runs on the same host. Logstash is making some anonymization and some mutates, and sends the document back to kafka as json. Kafka should then forward the message to PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch
Everything works fine, accept the connection to postgresql, with which i'm having some trouble.
My config files looks like follows:
sink-quickstart-sqlite.properties

QUESTION
I'm publishing a message to Kafka using KafkaTemplate
in Spring Boot 2.2.2 service using Spring-Kafka
. The messages are being published successfully however my logs are flooded with the following warning as soon as I publish the first message:
ANSWER
Answered 2020-Mar-21 at 18:04This is saying that your connection to bootstrap-servers
is unable to be established
I suggest you debug the code without interceptor.classes
And confluent.monitoring.interceptor
things need to go under properties section
QUESTION
I just finished this tutorial to use Kafka and Schema Registry :http://cloudurable.com/blog/kafka-avro-schema-registry/index.html I also played with Conlfuent Platform : https://docs.confluent.io/current/installation/installing_cp.html
Everything works fine, until I rebooted my Virtual Machine (VMBOX) : All schemas/subjects have been deleted (or disappeared) after I rebooted.
I read that Schema Registry to not store itself the data but use Kafka to do that. Of course, as I work for the moment only on my laptop, Kafka was also shutdown during the machine reboot.
Is it normal behavior, do we have to expect to RE-store all schemas all the time we reboot??? (-> maybe last version so!)
Do anybody have good best practices about that?
How persistence of schemas can be managed to avoid this problem ?
Environment : Ubuntu 16... , Kafka 2.11.1.0.0, Confluent Platform 4.0
Thanks a lot
nota: I already read this topics which discuss about keeping schema's ID, but has I don't recover any schemas, it's not a problem of Ids : Confluent Schema Registry Persistence
...ANSWER
Answered 2018-Jan-03 at 13:49Schema Registry persists its data in Kafka.
Therefore your question becomes, why did you lose your data from Kafka on reboot.
My guess would be you've inadvertently used /tmp
as the data folder. Are you using Confluent CLI in your experiments?
QUESTION
I'm following the instructions linked in this wiki doc to install the confluent platform on my EC2 instance running amazon linux (version 2016.09). I did everything it says including:
