jQuery command fails to create table when placed after select element
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 14:22

I am new to jQuery and built this code that I modified to make it work right away in fiddle etc.

When the select changes, it is supposed to create a table but it does not do anything. However, if I place the

element on top of the select it works. Any idea why?

Divs and selects aren't self-closing elements. They probably don't exist with respect to jQuery except where the browser attempts to close them for you. Fix that and it works.

            Answer:

Unfortunately doing this directly by attempting to web scrape the search results using UrlFetchApp will not work. You can use third party tools to get the number of search results, however.

            More Information:

I tested this out using an exponential backoff method which sometimes is able to get past 429 errors when a fetch request is invoked by UrlFetchApp.

When using UrlFetchApp to either web scrape or to connect to an API, it can happen that the server denies the request on the grounds of too many requests - or HTTP Error 429.

Google Apps Script runs in the cloud, from a set of IP addresses in a pool that Google own. You can actually see all the IP ranges here. Most websites (especially large companies such as Google) have architecture in place to prevent the use of bots scraping their websites and slowing down traffic.

Sometimes it's possible to get past this error, using a mixture of exponential backoff and random time intervals as shown for the Binance API (Full Disclosure: this GitHub repository was written by me.)

I assume that either Google directly blocks the Apps Script IP pool, or there are simply too many people trying the same thing - because with the same techniques I was unable to get any response that didn't involve entering a captcha as we discussed in the comments above and can be seen in the log of the page string.

            What can be done:

There are many third party APIs that you can use to do this, and I suggest searching for one that meets your needs.

I tested out one called Authoritas which returns search engine indexing for different keywords. The API is asynchornous, so can take up to a minute to get a response, so a Web App solution needs to be made.

The flow I used is as follows:

Javascript not selecting the html element which was added later using innerHTML via javascript
            Asked 2021-Jun-14 at 09:12

I was creating a todo's list with JS. I have attached the code snippet for the same. I Have three hard coded todos in html and with each todo there are two buttons('x' to remove the todo 'y' to mark it as done) associated. Now for this hard coded todos everything is working fine. Now, to add a new todo I have this tag where todo text is entered and after clicking enter I am embedding them to html using innerHTML, while embedding the dynamically added todos are visible in DOM. But The problem is that the buttons('x' and 'y') associated with the todo is not working as expected. Further I tried to debug my problem and I found out that the buttons('x' and 'y') that are not getting selected. I could not understand why is this happening. Any help will be highly appreciated.

As mentioned in the comments of the question, the answer is that I needed to be using a bash session, but was in fact using a zsh session.

Figured this out thanks to @Barmar by running echo $SHELL

            As @Shawn mentioned:

            == isn't understood by a basic POSIX-only test/[ (Or by zsh's implementation)

Running chsh -s /bin/bash to change from zsh to bash fixed it, and then I had to reopen the terminal for it to actually take effect (this may not be necessary for everyone, but at least for me using Hyper as my terminal emulator, the change didn't take effect until closing and reopening the app).

            Calculating table quantity and multiplication
            Asked 2021-Jun-12 at 15:32

            Table_exaple Hello,

            I need some help.

My problem is that I can't figure out how to do this. The whole point of my simple project is to create a table only with input text boxes where only integers will be added, and I need to sum columns only.

As Quantity sum I mean to calculate the whole column and by Calculated sum I need to calculate the Quantity * value of the Heading.

For example: Quantity of column 5$ is 50 therefore the calculated cell must be 250$.

I would also like to add a button that adds columns dynamically and the heading is Custom... so somehow the heading value should be saved as a variable too.

I tried something with jQuery, but it's not relevant because I want that to be calculated dynamically no matter what input I enter in the heading.

Here is my bad jQuery for each column, it works, but that's not the goal.

            ANSWER

            Answered 2021-Jun-08 at 21:23

The pattern you're looking to follow is called 'Don't Repeat Yourself', or DRY. It's core principle is to create reusable generic structures which do not contain identifiers, but simply any metadata required for processing.

In this case you can provide all the input elements with common class names, not incremental ones nor id. Then in the JS you can determine which column the user is interacting with using index(). From there you can use map() to build an array of all the values in that column and sum them. Finally you can store the column price in a data attribute on the heading and multiply the quantity by that figure to give you your calculated total.

In practice it will look something like the below. Note that this JS will work for an infinite number of rows and columns, all it depends on is the data attribute on the th in order to provide the unit price.
