Concurrent Counter Struct with Type Argument in Rust
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 23:55

I was following along with this tutorial on creating a concurrent counter struct for a usize value: ConcurrentCounter. As I understand it, this wrapper struct allows us to mutate our usize value, with more concise syntax, for example:my_counter.increment(1) vs. my_counter.lock().unwrap().increment(1).

Now in this tutorial our value is of type usize, but what if we wanted to use a f32, i32, or u32 value instead?

I thought that I could do this with generic type arguments:

I haven't come across such a ConcurrentCounter library, but crates.io is huge, maybe you find something. However, if you are mostly concerned with primitives such as i32, there is a better alternative call: Atomics, definitely worth checking out.

Nevertheless, your approach of generalizing the ConcurrentCounter is going in a good direction. In the context of operation overloading, std::ops is worth a look. Specifically, you need Add, Sub, and Mul, respectively. Also, you need a Copy bound (alternatively, a Clone would also do). So you were pretty close:

How to type-constrain the entries of a Raku function's array argument?
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 23:08

I am trying to define a subroutine in Raku whose argument is, say, an Array of Ints (imposing that as a constraint, i.e. rejecting arguments that are not Arrays of Ints).

Question: What is the "best" (most idiomatic, or straightforward, or whatever you think 'best' should mean here) way to achieve that?

Examples run in the Raku REPL follow.

What I was hoping would work

            ANSWER

            Answered 2021-Jun-15 at 06:40

I think the main misunderstanding is that my Int @a = 1,2,3 and [1,2,3] are somehow equivalent. They are not. The first case defines an array that will only take Int values. The second case defines an array that will take anything, and just happens to have Int values in it.

I'll try to cover all versions you tried, why they didn't work, and possibly how it would work. I'll be using a bare dd as proof that the body of the function was reached.

My research of the major syntax and functionality differences from http://www.greenend.org.uk/rjk/tech/regexp.html:

Perl supports much more additional functionality:

            • "nongreedy {}" with syntax re{...}?
            • additional anchors and character types \A, \C, \d, \D, \G, \p, \P, \s, \S, \X. \Z, \z.
            • (?#comment)
            • shy grouping (?:re), shy grouping + modifiers (?modifiers:re)
            • lookahead and negative lookahead (?=re) and (?!re), lookbehind and negative lookbehind (?<=p) and (?
            • Atomic groups (?>re)
            • Conditional expression (?(cond)re)

Is there a way to do conditional select statements in SQLite?
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 19:54

I am trying to create an app in which the user has the option to query the database by entering information into one of two entry boxes. I want to be able to use a single select statement and conditionally query the database based on what box the user enter their information into. I currently am trying to use a CASE clause, but I believe that it is running into an error when I try to include a WHERE clause in the THEN argument. Here is what I am currently working with:

Do Vue.js render functions allow return of an array of VNodes?
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 18:46

I am working on extending a Vue.js frontend application. I am currently inspecting a render function within a functional component. After looking over the docs, I had the current understanding that the render function within the functional component will return a single VNode created with CreateElement aka h. My confusion came when I saw a VNode being returned as an element in an array. I could not find any reference to this syntax in the docs. Does anyone have any insight?

            ANSWER

            Answered 2021-Jun-15 at 15:37

It seems this was implemented in:

            https://github.com/vuejs/vue/commit/c7c13c2a156269d29fd9c9f8f6a3e53a2f2cac3d

This was a result of an issue raised in 2018 (https://github.com/vuejs/vue/issues/8056) , because this.$scopedSlots.default() returned both a VNode or an array of VNodes depending on the content.

The main argument was that this is inconsistent with how regular slots behave in render functions, and means any render function component rendering scoped slots as children needs to type check the result of invoking the slot to decide if it needs to be wrapped in an array

So Evan comments on the issue thread here, explaining that this.$scopedSlots.default would always return Arrays beginning v2.6 to allow for consistency, but to avoid breaking changes for how $scopedSlots was being used, the update would also allow return of an Array of a single VNode from render functions as well.

Shorthand object initializer syntax for matching property name
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 18:36

Sometimes I find myself needing to initialize an object with a property that matches the property of another object. When the property name is the same, I want to be able to use shorthand syntax.

(For the purposes of the examples in this question, I'll just keep the additional properties to a tag: 1 property, and I'll reuse message in subsequent examples as the input/source of the information. I also indicate an extra unwanted property of message because I'm cherry-picking properties and do not intend to just use Object.assign to assign all the properties of message to the result.)

Is there shorthand initializer syntax to achieve this?

No, this is still they way to go.
