QUESTION
I'm using SBCL 2.0.1.debian and Paul Graham's ANSI Common Lisp to learn Lisp.
Right in Chapter 2 though, I'm realizing that I cannot use setf
like the author can! A little googling and I learn that I must use defvar
or defparameter
to 'introduce' my globals before I can set them with setq
!
Is there any way to avoid having to introduce globals via the defvar
or defparameter
, either from inside SBCL or from outside via switches? Do other Lisp's too mandate this?
I understand their value-add in large codebases but right now I'm just learning by writing smallish programs, and so am finding them cumbersome. I'm used to using globals in other languages, so don't necessarily mind global- / local-variable bugs.
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Jun-11 at 11:29If you are writing programs, in the sense of things which have some persistent existence in files, then use the def*
forms. Top-level setf
/ setq
of an undefined variable has undefined semantics in CL and, even worse, has differing semantics across implementations. Typing defvar
, defparameter
or defconstant
is not much harder than typing setf
or setq
and means your programs will have defined semantics, which is usually considered a good thing. So no, for programs there is no way to avoid using the def*
forms, or some equivalent thereof.
If you are simply typing things at a REPL / listener to play with things, then I think just using setf
at top-level is fine (no-one uses environments where things typed at the REPL are really persistent any more I think).
You say you are used to using globals in other languages. Depending on what those other languages are this quite probably means you're not used to CL's semantics for bindings defined with def*
forms, which are not only global, but globally special, or globally dynamic. I don't know which other languages even have CL's special / lexical distinction, but I suspect that not that many do. For instance consider this Python (3) program:
QUESTION
Whenever I fetch data from any server to display it in ag-grid, ag-grid does not maintain the column order for the column that uses valueGetter to choose the value and puts that column automatically at the end.
The problem is replicated in the following code sandbox link: https://codesandbox.io/s/ag-grid-column-ordering-bug-bz055 as a minimum reproducible example
The data received from the server is in the following format
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Jun-11 at 14:48Since the column does not have a field
supplied, I'd recommend either supplying a field
or colID
to the column. This would be the simplest approach without having to use any API calls to move the column:
QUESTION
I often have to check Word documents with multiple rounds of editing. To make things easier, I would like to be able to run a macro that prompts me to input a date and then any tracking before this date would be hidden, leaving only track changes made on or after the inputted date. Ideally, hitting the macro again would toggle the hidden track changes back to being shown.
I don't have an in-progress code as such, but do have two separate macros, each doing related things. The first is a simple toggle to hide and show insertions and deletions:
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Jun-08 at 02:37Your two macros cannot be combined to do as you want. The:
first simply toggles the track-changes view on/off for all tracked changes.
second simply accepts all changes before a specified date, meaning they no longer exist in the document and, unless all the 'accepts' are undone or discarded (by not saving the document), provides no means of 'unhiding' those changes.
Word has no capacity to display some tracked changes and hide others based on the date.
The kludgy workaround I had in mind is equivalent to what the second macro does - without saving the modified document.
Do note that, even without using Track Changes, Word allows you to use its document comparison feature to compare two versions of the same document (e.g. the current version and a version in your backups). You could do the same thing by saving daily/weekly versions of the documents (different filenames, of course), to compare any two versions against each other.

I don't have and Oracle instance to work with, but I believe the code below, which uses a case statement to achieve your conditional need, should work for you:

I am looking to transpose a table dynamically to be populated column-wise, rather than row-wise. My table headers must go column-wise first, and my subsequent data must populate it in that orientation.
I have created an example for simplicity.
My current table is as follows:

QUESTION
Having problem here to understand the benefits of Vuex-ORM in my special case.
I have a rest API and most of the time i manage to handle my data with a multiple api calls to display the result.
For example:
Having a call for fetchUsers()
and a call for fetchPosts
, posts are made by the users and are related within as a userId
prop.
UsersData
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-May-16 at 23:45What you're seeing in vue-devtools is expected.
Relationships are not inserted into the store, they are inserted into their respective "tables" and assigned foreign keys to create a reference to that relationship.
When you query your entities to include relations i.e. User.query().with('posts').get()
you'll notice that posts will be populated. The relationship fields in the store however will always show as empty array's (for many relations) or null (for single relations) since this is simply the schema for the entity.
QUESTION
I have javascript to fetch json information. I will be storing this json file locally (I downloaded an example file and added birthdate object for my use example from https://jsonplaceholder.typicode.com/users)
I am trying to parse the returned JSON information and post the contents into 2 seperate div's. I have a json object named "birthdate". In my script, I have a var set to call today's date named "today". It prints the date as "05-12" in console, and that is how I have the "birthdate" formatted in JSON as well. I don't need the year or time.
What I would like is to have the script compare "today" with the json object "birthdate". If today = birthdate, then I would like to have that entry information displayed in the user-list-today div to appear under the Birthday Today section of the page.
If today does not equal birthdate, I would like to have all other entries displayed in the user-list-future div to appear under the Birthday Future section of the page.
Nothing should be posted in both areas, only one or the other.
Any help that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. I will include all of my code below. The snippet may give error because I have local path to JSON file instead of online version.
Here is my codepen of it codepen doesnt have the birthday JSON object https://codepen.io/abc-123-webguy/pen/poegaLq

QUESTION
Why do these two URL formats return different datatypes, when they all pull data from the same API?
This returns a nested dictionary, which is the correct type:
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-May-12 at 11:57This has nothing to do with Python or requests.get
and little to do with URL formats. It's the service that decides how to parse that URL and how to map its elements.
In the first case
https://jsonplaceholder.typicode.com/users/1
is treated as a single resource identifier (which it is) so the service returns a single object serialized as JSON. In JavaScript objects are dictionaries. What you posted is a single object, not nested dictionariesIn the second case,
https://jsonplaceholder.typicode.com/users?id=1
it treats the URL as a query on theUsers
resource with a filterid=1
so it returns an array of objects, even though there's only a single matching object.
JSONPlaceholder's docs explain that this syntax is used for filtering:
Filtering resources
Basic filtering is supported through query parameters.
Another service could decide that since id
is a key, it should return a single object instead of an array. Or it could use a different query string, using eg filter
to explicitly specify filter parameters
There's no standard for either case. While it's a common convention especially in REST-like APIs to include an object's ID in the URL path, there's no single standard or even convention for queries. Each service uses its own format.
GraphQL (from Facebook) and OData (from Microsoft) are two common query and manipulation protocols. They're a lot more complex than the very simple filtering used by JSONPlaceholder though

Install graham
You can use graham like any standard Python library. You will need to make sure that you have a development environment consisting of a Python distribution including header files, a compiler, pip, and git installed. Make sure that your pip, setuptools, and wheel are up to date. When using pip it is generally recommended to install packages in a virtual environment to avoid changes to the system.
