QUESTION
I was making a simple to do app with mvc pattern and I saw an article which said you shouldn't pass the model values directly to the view, which made the project more complex than I thought (I am relatively new to programming and this is the first time I am trying out a design pattern).
But then later on I talked to someone who said that that is not true and you can send the model data directly to view, he didn't even use classes or some kind of grouping to separate the function he just put them in separate files.
I was wondering if there is a guideline that I couldn't find or we can do whatever we want as long as they are kind of separated. I would love an article or a guide to read up on as well.
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Jun-16 at 01:01Since, I am not 100% sure the context in which you are trying to apply the MVC pattern, a good generic explanation of MVC can be found in GoF's 1995 book, Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object Oriented Software.
In the book, they state the following.
The Model is the application object, the View is its screen presentation, and the Controller defines the way the user interface reacts to user input.
A more robust explanation can be found from Martin Fowler where he also makes the case for a variation of Model View Controller that uses a Presentation Model.
If you are referring to Spring MVC then there is some magic that blurs the lines a bit. But in general, you have a controller that represents some screen or an encapsulated piece of functionality that the user (web requests) interact with. The controller serves up responses that are derived from the domain, usually via a Spring Service (i.e. @Service). The domain (Model) doesn't know anything about the View and the View may or may not know anything about the domain.
Given that, the View should be derived from the Model. But that's not always the case since sometimes how we present things to a screen is not the best logical way to model things in our domain - not to mention, the domain should be presentation agnostic. This leads into Fowler's argument for a Presentation Model, which is a model that belongs to the Presentation.
I call this a Presentation Model because it's a model that is really designed for and thus part of the presentation layer.
Microsoft took that idea and ran with it in a variant of MVC called MVVM (Model View ViewModel).
You can read more about that in Microsoft's documentation on ASP.Net Core.
So, back to your original question of "Should you pass the model directly to the view?" If you are using MVC then the controller is what provides the interaction. But if you're really asking, "Can you bind your view directly to the model?" If your model has all the stuff you need organized how your view needs it, then sure. And if it's simple enough, maybe that's the way to go. Otherwise, you could go with something like a Presentation Model or MVVM.

QUESTION
I am working on extending a Vue.js frontend application. I am currently inspecting a render function within a functional component. After looking over the docs, I had the current understanding that the render function within the functional component will return a single VNode created with CreateElement aka h. My confusion came when I saw a VNode being returned as an element in an array. I could not find any reference to this syntax in the docs. Does anyone have any insight?
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Jun-15 at 15:37It seems this was implemented in:
https://github.com/vuejs/vue/commit/c7c13c2a156269d29fd9c9f8f6a3e53a2f2cac3d
This was a result of an issue raised in 2018 (https://github.com/vuejs/vue/issues/8056) , because this.$scopedSlots.default() returned both a VNode or an array of VNodes depending on the content.
The main argument was that this is inconsistent with how regular slots behave in render functions, and means any render function component rendering scoped slots as children needs to type check the result of invoking the slot to decide if it needs to be wrapped in an array
So Evan comments on the issue thread here, explaining that this.$scopedSlots.default would always return Arrays beginning v2.6 to allow for consistency, but to avoid breaking changes for how $scopedSlots was being used, the update would also allow return of an Array of a single VNode from render functions as well.

QUESTION
I am trying to make a page responsive but, I am not able to make an image responsive as it is getting off the grid container in material UI. Is there a way I can make the image responsive? I am trying to add the image in Grid container, Still, it is showing the same.
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Jun-15 at 16:47In your image tag, you are setting the height and width to 50vh. Viewport units (vh or vw) will cause stuff to overflow out of containers if it sees fit. In your case, everything is working as intended, the image is taking up 50% of the viewport height (637/2 = 319px). It's going to overflow out of the grid container if it needs to in order to meet those dimensions.
You should likely have the image itself have width: 100% height: 100%, or width: 100% height: auto and control the size of the image via the container (like you're already doing).
Hope this helped, let me know if you have questions.

QUESTION
I have two tables:
- Car_company which has the attributes of: C_id (primary key), C_name
- Car_model which has the attributes of: Com_id (referenced to C_id of Car_company), Model_year Warranty
I wish to access both of these tables individually and also I would like to perform a join operation on them and display all of the car_models along with their car_company name. I tried using both JPQL and native query but nothing worked. I also made sure to use the OneToMany and ManyToOne associations but I ended up getting infinite nesting,i.e, the models have car_company as field, this inturn has car_models as a list, and this keeps going. Please help me with entity classes and DAOs.
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Jun-15 at 16:12You can get a List of CarModel for each car company in the CarCompany entity through the oneToMany annotation like this:

QUESTION
Hey to all in the forum
I use JSF Mojarra implementation, version JSF 2.2
I need desperately a help on this.
- I have a snippet of my page.
- I have a custom component "example_result.xhtml" used in the page.
- I have my BackingBean.java Be aware please that this code is not the real code I made. If you run it, it will be very ugly maybe because I deleted all the css classes and I kept only the hot stuff I need to show you my problem.
Everything is inside 1 form.
The 5 "h:selectManyCheckbox" (in my code I have 8 or 9)
In the form I have 5 "h:selectManyCheckbox" which are using values in the "value" attribute for different cases (javaFrameworks2Values, javaFrameworks3Values,...), and the "f:selectItems" use arrays of "SelectItem" (javaFrameworksSelectItems2, javaFrameworksSelectItems3...) created for these different cases, just to make some examples for me to understand how all the selectOne and selectMany components work. The ideas for this, about different cases were taken from these links: "https://stackoverflow.com/tags/selectonemenu/info" and "https://mkyong.com/jsf2/jsf-2-checkboxes-example".
After I have 2 commandButtons
1 for submit, and 1 for reset the values.
Display the values
After I display the results of the values of the "h:selectManyCheckbox" via the "example_result.xhtml".
You can see the 4th "h:selectManyCheckbox" that is the only one different, because it has the attribute "required" with the attribute "requiredMessage". With it there is a "h:message" to display the validation error.
In the BackingBean (which is Spring Bean, but it works perfectly good - sorry I don't want ejbs 3.x), I have initialized:
- The values of the SelectItems and
- The values of the "value" attribute, where the values of the "h:selectManyCheckbox" will be stored to be displayed later. [The code is completely castrated, to make it readable snippet].
When the page is rendered, I select checkBoxes (e.g. the 2 last, because the 2 first are initials) from all the "h:selectManyCheckbox". When I say that select from all, I mean it. And from the 4th with the "required" attribute. I try in the buttons (see in the code) the "Effort 1", or "Effort 2", or "Effort 3" (in the "f:ajax" in the buttons) and the result outputs in the last part are displayed and updated like a candy. Without any problem. To achive this with the composite component I googled and tried a lot. But I made it.
Then it comes the time to try the 4th to see the validation error of the "required" attribute.
I select again from all as before, but not from all. NOT from the 4th "h:selectManyCheckbox" this time. I select nothing from the 4th "h:selectManyCheckbox" to ckeck the validator error message ("requiredMessage"). The result is: It displays the message of error (GOOD until now), BUT this time it does not update anything from the others "h:selectManyCheckbox" to the output results at the end, and it does not reset the values as well as it was doing before (when I selected from all and from the 4th as well).
I understand that it says: as long as in the form the 4th failed with validation error, all the other "h:selectManyCheckbox" will not update the output results (something like wanting to fail all the others too).
But what really happes here?
- It does not give the values to the "h:selectManyCheckbox", to be updated to the output?
- It gives the vales to the "h:selectManyCheckbox" normally, BUT it just not updates the output?
The other efforts in the "f:ajax" in the buttons, are just efforts maybe to solve the problem but in these cases they don't even display the error message in the 4th case and of cource they don't update the other output results as well (again). But no message error as well.
I don't know if the problem is clear to you. I can explain in the discussion better so I can clarify the situation better. [To be honnet it took me 1 and half hour to write all this thing]
Thanks a lot in advance

...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Jun-15 at 14:11After a lot of discussing with the only person who wanted to help to my issue here (and I thank him @WoAiNii for this a lot), I decided to post my solution:
I will make 5 different forms with 5 set of buttons (submit/reset), to make escalate this problem, for 5 so much related components in the form.
But my question is open: Why this is happening, what rule in JSF in this case is taking place and makes this situation. Anyone, comes with an explanation:
- Thomas: this is a rule in JSF, or
- is a JSF bug, or
- this happens in these cases, or... whatever...,
I will be glad to read it here so I will learn better, and others to will learn from these ideas of yours. Thanks a lot
