            Asked 2021-Jun-16 at 00:51

How do I check user input against multiple lists python?

Ex. I want to check if an input is in one of four lists. One list for up down left and right. Each list has the different acceptable ways to make the program continue. Once the input is verified to be in one of the lists i will need to figure out how to make it check against the individual lists so that the input correlates correctly to the desired direction.

Custom characters are used in two spots but they print properly.

Is There a Way to Cause Powershell to Use a Particular Format for a Function's Output?
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 18:42

I wish to suggest (perhaps enforce, but I am not firm on the semantics yet) a particular format for the output of a PowerShell function.

about_Format.ps1xml (versioned for PowerShell 7.1) says this: 'Beginning in PowerShell 6, the default views are defined in PowerShell source code. The Format.ps1xml files from PowerShell 5.1 and earlier versions don't exist in PowerShell 6 and later versions.'. The article then goes on to explain how Format.ps1xml files can be used to change the display of objects, etc etc. This is not very explicit: 'don't exist' -ne 'cannot exist'...

            This begs several questions:

            1. Although they 'don't exist', can Format.ps1xml files be created/used in versions of PowerShell greater than 5.1?
            2. Whether they can or not, is there some better practice for suggesting to PowerShell how a certain function should format returned data? Note that inherent in 'suggest' is that the pipeline nature of PowerShell's output must be preserved: the user must still be able to pipe the output of the function to Format-List or ForEach-Object etc..

For example, the Get-ADUser cmdlet returns objects formatted by Format-List. If I write a function called Search-ADUser that calls Get-ADUser internally and returns some of those objects, the output will also be formatted as a list. Piping the output to Format-Table before returning it does not satisfy my requirements, because the output will then not be treated as separate objects in a pipeline.

Although they 'don't exist', can Format.ps1xml files be created/used in versions of PowerShell greater than 5.1?

            • Yes; in fact any third-party code must use them to define custom formatting.

              • That *.ps1xml files are invariably needed for such definitions is unfortunate; GitHub issue #7845 asks for an in-memory, API-based alternative (which for type data already exists, via the Update-TypeData cmdlet).
            • It is only the formatting data that ships with PowerShell that is now hardcoded into the PowerShell (Core) executable, presumably for performance reasons.

is there some better practice for suggesting to PowerShell how a certain function should format returned data?

The lack of an API-based way to define formatting data requires the following approach:

            • Determine the full name of the .NET type(s) to which the formatting should apply.

              • If it is [pscustomobject] instances that the formatting should apply to, you need to (a) choose a unique (virtual) type name and (b) assign it to the [pscustomobject] instances via PowerShell's ETS (Extended Type System); e.g.:

                • For [pscustomobject] instances created by the Select-Object cmdlet:

            Swing JMenuBar not rendering properly
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 18:31

First time actually using anything to do with swing - sorry for the poor code and crude visuals!
Using swing for a massively over-complicated password checker school project, and when I came to loading in a JMenuBar, it doesn't render properly the first time. Once I run through one of the options first, it reloads correctly, but the first time it comes out like this: First render attempt
But after I run one of the methods, either by clicking one of the buttons that I added to check if it was just the JFrame that was broken or using one of the broken menu options, it reloads correctly, but has a little grey bar above where the JMenuBar actually renders: Post-method render

How can I use paste0() to access a column from a reactive expression that returns a data frame in r?
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 15:12

I have the following piece of code in a shiny app. My goal is to generate the choices for the "cutFamily2" selectInput widget based on what the user chose for the "machine2" selectInput.

If I use corte2() instead of eval(paste0("corte",2)) on the observerEvent the app runs properly. The problem is that I want to use the paste0() because the integer "2" in eval(paste0("corte",2)) will be an argument of a function (function(data,n)) so I can easily generate corte1, corte2 and so on.

When I run it using eval(paste0("corte",2)) I am getting the "error in $: $ operator is invalid for atomic vectors" and the app won't even run. I tried to use enframe() to convert it to a tibble, then the app runs, but I get a "Unknown or uninitialised column: CutFamily" error and the SelectInput choices will be empty. I also tried [[ instead, but nothing.

Any ideas on how to solve the problem?

When you're stuck on a problem, it never hurts to go back and consult the documentation.

            You'll find information like this:

A border layout lays out a container, arranging and resizing its components to fit in five regions: north, south, east, west, and center. Each region may contain no more than one component, and is identified by a corresponding constant: NORTH, SOUTH, EAST, WEST, and CENTER. When adding a component to a container with a border layout, use one of these five constants...
