            docker-compose keeps previous environment variables after restart

            I am an experienced software developer, but fairly new to docker.

            I am trying to build a development environment for Magento 2.4 using the bitnami/magento base image (https://hub.docker.com/r/bitnami/magento). When I first downloaded the docker-compose.yml and ran it, everything worked fine right away.

            Note: This is not a Magento question. I think the specific container used is secondary to my problem. It is rather a docker/docker-compose on Mac question.

            In the end, the problem with the environment variables was related to my executing docker run on single images instead of docker-compose run, so the messages were really not related.

            How do we reset the state associated with a Kafka Connect source connector?

            We are working with Kafka Connect 2.5.

            We are using the Confluent JDBC source connector (although I think this question is mostly agnostic to the connector type) and are consuming some data from an IBM DB2 database onto a topic, using 'incrementing mode' (primary keys) as unique IDs for each record.

            That works fine in the normal course of events; the first time the connector starts all records are consumed and placed on a topic, then, when new records are added, they are added to our topic. In our development environment, when we change connector parameters etc., we want to effectively reset the connector on-demand; i.e. have it consume data from the “beginning” of the table again.

            We thought that deleting the connector (using the Kafka Connect REST API) would do this - and would have the side-effect of deleting all information regarding that connector configuration from the Kafka Connect connect-* metadata topics too.

            However, this doesn’t appear to be what happens. The metadata remains in those topics, and when we recreate/re-add the connector configuration (again using the REST API), it 'remembers' the offset it was consuming from in the table. This seems confusing and unhelpful - deleting the connector doesn’t delete its state. Is there a way to more permanently wipe the connector and/or reset its consumption position, short of pulling down the whole Kafka Connect environment, which seems drastic? Ideally we’d like not to have to meddle with the internal topics directly.

            Partial answer to this question: it seems the behaviour we are seeing is to be expected:

            If you’re using incremental ingest, what offset does Kafka Connect have stored? If you delete and recreate a connector with the same name, the offset from the previous instance will be preserved. Consider the scenario in which you create a connector. It successfully ingests all data up to a given ID or timestamp value in the source table, and then you delete and recreate it. The new version of the connector will get the offset from the previous version and thus only ingest newer data than that which was previously processed. You can verify this by looking at the offset.storage.topic and the values stored in it for the table in question.

            At least for the Confluent JDBC connector, there is a workaround to reset the pointer.

            Personally, I'm still confused why Kafka Connect retains state for the connector at all when it's deleted, but seems that is designed behaviour. Would still be interested if there is a better (and supported) way to remove that state.

            For anyone experiencing a similar issue, I found a workaround, which was not straightforward. In this case, I defined a common_ds function for reading all the data from the files. I applied batching, where the batch size is equal to the time-series length to split the observations as they were stored. (Note: this assumes that the files are already preprocessed and all the files have equal number of rows.) After combining the features with the labels, the data is shuffled and batched according to the desired batch size. The final step uses the pack_features_function to change the format into tensor shapes that can be fed to the model.

            I checked the OpenGL source code. Not that I meddle with it in the first place but its fine. For some reason, StaticShader refuses to initialize now. In my program, before doing some change, it was working just fine and it is still working in some other project. Despite I didn't even get close to shader codes it gave me this. What exactly is this and how can I handle it.

            Btw while this poped up I was trying to update the render algorithm although it did not change much.

            I think you have the good setup to deal with your situation. Your project_id comes from the path where the user is, and in your controller you just find for the existence of this project in the database. All of that looks good. But the thing is your show you don't need this code changeset = Clients.change_work_item(%BudgetItem{project_id: project.id}) just render a changeset with your BudgetItem like this: changeset = Clients.change_work(%BudgetItem{}). Now on the post action of the controller related to this, which you have not posted you can use the id sent to your controller to find the project and create an associated work item using build_assoc. If you could send your code in the post controller and the Clients context it could be easier to help.

            How to use temporary files and replace the input when using ffmpeg in batch?

            What I did so far:

            I learned with this answer that I can use negative mapping to remove unwanted streams (extra audio, subtitles) from my video files.

            I them proceeded to apply it to a few dozen files in a folder using a simple for /r loop on Windows' cmd. Since I thought this process as some kind of trim, I didn't care about my original files and wanted ffmpeg to replace them, which of course it cannot.

            I tried to search a bit further and find ways to work around this issue without simply using a new destination an manually replacing files afterwards, but had no luck.

            However a lot of my findings seemed to indicate that ffmpeg has capabilities to use external temporary files for some of it's functions, even though I couldn't really find more onto it.

            What I want to do:

            So is there any way that I can make ffmpeg remove those extra streams and them replace the original file somehow. I'll also be needing to use this to multiple file, by I don't think this would be a big issue...

            I really need this to be done with ffmpeg, as learning the tool to it's full extent is a long-therm goal of mine and I want to keep working on that curve, but as for batch/cmd, I prefer it because I haven't properly learned a programming language yet (even if I often meddle with a few), but I would be happy to use suggestions of any kind for handling ffmpeg!

            Not possible with ffmpeg alone

            ffmpeg can't do in-place file changes.

            The output must be a new file.

            However, deleting/removing/replacing to original file with the new file should be trivial in your batch script.

            I saw some vague references while searching and also stumbled upon the cache protocol and -hls_flags temp_file

            The cache protocol allows some limited seeking during playback of live inputs. -hls_flags temp_file is only usable with the HLS muxer and creates a file named filename.tmp which is then renamed once the active segment completes. Neither are usable for what you want to do.

            I am new to SAST tools. It's amazing to run those tools and find out bugs that are sometimes obvious but we just didn't notice.

            While I know how to run the tools, I still have many questions in mind how these incredible tools work under the hood.

            For example, while using SonarQube or Coverity to scan C/C++ source codes, we have to use a build-wrapper so the tool can monitor the build process. However, for other interpreted langaues, these tools can just take a look at the codes and still function very well.

            I could envision that the tools are building the relationship between source codes(function calls/variables/memory alloc or dealloc), what is the reason that for a compiled language the tool has to meddle into the build process?

            A static analysis tool needs to know what the code means. For compiled languages, the meaning of the code often depends on how the compiler is invoked. For C/C++, that includes things like -D (macro definition) and -I (include path) options, as the former often controls the behavior of #ifdef and the latter is used to find headers for third-party libraries (among other thngs). For Java, the compilation command includes the -classpath option, which again is how third-party dependencies are found. Other compiled languages are similar.

            It is important to locate the correct dependencies both because that can affect the way the code should be parsed and what the behavior is. As an example of the former, consider that, in Java, the expression a.b.c.d.e.f could mean many things, since the . operator is used both to navigate in the package hierarchy and to dereference an object to access a field. If a comes from the classpath, the tool can't know what this means without inspecting the classes in that classpath. As an example of the latter, consider a function in a third-party library that accepts an object reference. Does that function allow a null reference to be passed? Unless it is a well-known function that the tool already knows about, the only way to tell is for the analyzer to inspect the bytecode of that function.

            Now, a tool could just ask the user to provide the compilation information directly when invoking the analyzer. That is the approach taken by clang-tidy, for example. This is conceptually simple, but it can be a challenge to maintain. In a large project, there may be many sets of files that are compiled with different options, making this a pain to set up. And possibly worse, there's no simple and general way to ensure the options passed to the analyzer and the set of files to analyze are kept in sync with the real build.

            Consequently, some tools provide a "build monitor" that can wrap the usual build, inspecting all of the compilations it performs, and gathering both the set of source files to analyze and the options needed to compile them. When that is finished, the main analysis can begin. With this approach, nothing in the normal build has to be modified or maintained over time. This isn't entirely without potential issues, however. The tool may need to be told, for example, what the name of your compiler executable is (which can vary a lot in cross-compile scenarios), and you have to ensure the normal build performs a full build from a "clean" state, otherwise some files may be missed.

            Interpreted languages are usually different because they often have dependencies specified by environment variables that the analyzer can see. When that isn't the case, the analyzer will generally accept additional configuration options. For example, if the python executable on the PATH is not what will be used to run Python scripts being analyzed, the analyzer can typically be told to emulate a different one.

            Tangent: At the end of your question, you jokingly refer to this process as "meddling". In fact, these tools try very hard not to have any observable effect on the normal build. The paper A Few Billion Lines of Code Later (of which I am one of the authors) has some amusing anecdotes of failures to be transparent.

            yarn application accepted but not running cloudera despite resource allocation

            I am using a Cloudera quickstart VM 5.13.0.0 to run Spark applications in yarn-client mode. I have allocated 10GB and 3 cores to my Cloudera VM. When I submit the application, the application is ACCEPTED but never moves on to RUNNING. When I try to look for logs using yarn logs -applicationId I do not see anything. Its absolutely blank.

            After all the research and apart from the reasons mentioned in the links I have mentioned in the question, I found that this can happen due to various reasons:

            1. when you have different versions of spark in the client (driver) and the cluster. Once you ensure that both bundle the same version of spark, it runs fine.
            2. you might need to mention the property spark.driver.host. Make sure the IP passed in here can be pinged from the guest VM.
